Chapter 1 of chapter 7 still stubborn

Still stubborn...

Isabella Pov...

I  severely feel the pains of the previous beating on me, the way I bend down the more the marks opened more. The guards still kept their eyes on me, watching every move I make likely a bee watching over her honeycomb for any strange signs penetrating through.

I kept on chopping off the hard-looking grass down, keeping my breathing still. I don't know many liters am going to cut into but all I can tell, I can't make it to one liter itself.

This dreadful hell for me, a wounded back and still cutting down in this hotter sun? My life is on its way.

I felt dizzy and unconscious unable to continue, I hold still unmovable, breathing hard than my current state, The guards didn't utter a word sincerely watched me work, and died on the spot.

That very moment of my dizziness, I felt a strange gape on me, that which I have experienced before. I see its shadow looking straight at me with no blinking, standing behind the guards.

My heart race to the death, abruptly I continue my grubbing up the grass in order not to get whip another forbidden mark on my skin.

With no stop, enduring the pains it caused

"You're really that stubborn type don't you?" The voice question, that sound familiar

Sir Marcus!

I stopped, finding it hard to turn back, I managed, despite the pains it caused I still wants to glance at the face speaking to me.

"Still stubborn" he added,

I didn't what happened next, my eyes closed.

Sixtynine minutes.....

I felt a warm soft touch on my head, a wet quilt was placed on it. I laid on a soft bed, better than that of ours in the sleeping quarter. I could hear loud yelling, that sounds like Lady Pearl but who would have falling into her wrath that her voice echoes loudly in the quarter.

I struggle to open up my eyes, the first person I saw was Emma, her hands hold onto my mine tightly with watery eyes staring unconsciously at me.

"Isabella!" She calls surprisedly and hugged me. "don't you ever scared me like that again" she warned, the body still tight to mine.

I looked at the direction of Lady Pearl who was busy scoring no other than Sir Robert himself.

What! ? The head of chefs in the kitchen?

I was still dead found in shock, how? And why?

"She's under my care so as very maids putting under a duty in this house!" She keeps howling on giving not a single room for Sir Robert to explain himself.

"Let this be the last time any maidens was beaten by you! You're a kitchen chef and don't have any right to lay a hand on anyone under my custody! Keep on with your cooking and leave the maids to me, this would be the last I would warn you about this! "

Sir Robert remains mute, head buried to the ground, hands warped together in a submission act to Lady Pearl.

"Or you'll lose this job!" Abruptly, Sir Robert went on his knees, the mighty Sir Robert went on his knees before maids like us there? This is surprising! Who the hell is Lady Pearl? That makes a powerful man in the kitchen knees before her,

She's just a caretaker of the house and workers in it but the way Sir Robert knees before her without minding our presence,

That means there's more to Lady Pearl than just a caretaker.

"Please my Lady, I begged you, give me just this one chance and I wouldn't lay my hands on anyone as you wish"

I blink my eyes to clear them from the confusing state I'm in. This is my first time in history a white woman stands for black life, someone as a commoner as me? A black girl? Black in nature? Lady Pearl was indeed a different creature.

"Please, I begged you, have mercy on me, I had wife and children to take care of and bills to pay please my Lady" he continues with his pleading,

I was still shocked, Emma stared in his direction, roll her eyes in an insulated way, and back to me.

"Why did you do that?" I asked, "don't you know you might get in trouble?"

"What trouble? You mean the one he had got himself into?"

"But he's still a master"

"Yeah, a master meant only for the kitchen not to rise his hands on others"

It's was unbelievable to me, why did she have to go through this instance just because of me?

It's didn't makes any sense

"Are you not going to ask about the handsome lord who bought you here?" Emma said, cupping her face with smiles, it draws my attention from the pleading chef to her.

"Who?" I asked confusedly, like totally lost.

I didn't remember anything after I fainted off, what is she applying?

She slaps her face.

"Now! Get out of my sight before I changed my mind!" She howled and Sir Robert abruptly left without a thought.

She turns back to us, addresses herself as nothing happened, Emma was about to pour out her complaints rain on me before was unintentionally interrupted.

"How was your body my dear," she asked, sitting next to me on the bed. I shift a little for her to sit down in a better spot.

"I'm fine my Lady" trying to sit upright.

"No" she stops for me to rest back my back

Her soft hands touch my head, she removes the quilt place there.  "Hmmm" she sighed and look at me smiling.

"All thank Marcus, you're okay"

Now, I get what Emma was trying to say, she was trying to ask about Sir Marcus!

How can I forgot about such an important part, of course, Sir Marcus, his voice was the last thing I heard before felling off.

I wonder if he carried me down here.

"Yes, He carried you here" Lady Pearl simply said, like she was reading my thoughts.

She gleams at me, there are more to her than just a caretaker

Emma hits me playfully,

"Ouch, it hurts!" I yell

"Alright,"

"I think, it's high time I leave you, girls, to yourself," Lady Pearl said and stood up.

"But my lady, we have to work" I hurry said, Emma, didn't excavate it pleasantly for me informing Lady Pearl about work when she had to feel so relaxed.

"Work?" She mumbled,

"Yes, my lady"

"Sorry, your wound does not heal yet and no duties until they are healed and your friend will stay with you until then"

Emma feeling fascinating by the news.

"Marcus said you're indeed stubborn but I was doubtful about it and now I have confirmed it" she grins at us and drifts out of the room.

My eyes remain unmovable, were they discussing me? What interested did Sir Marcus seems in me that makes him coming to my rescue whenever I'm in trouble.

"Now, what's going on between you and  Sir Marcus?" Emma pulled me back to reality.

"You said what?" I asked confusedly,

She slaps her face again!

NARRATIVE POV...

Lady Pearl pinned on the girls without they knowing, she gleams and walks out.

Leading her way to a silent chamber, the door was opened by a loyal guard standing at the exit. He bows down his head as the manner of respect or greetings to her before she walks in.

He heard her footsteps calculating in, smirks, and continue with his observation on the map place before him.

"You seem interested in the black girl, may I ask why? " She said and her coast was pulled off by one of the attending maid's places on duty.

"I think that's no of your business" His eyes are still on the map.

"I'm warning you, remember he's coming"

She sat on the couch close to him.

"Hmmm, I know"

"He wouldn't like it when one of his lords are closed to black especially a maid one, he hates black"

He chuckled, "speak for yourself, there's no difference between you two, some part of you is still black always remember that"

Lady Pearl keeps silent, she never wants to be remembered for her past but the picture of that face keeps on reminding her, she was once part of them.

In the brutal past, her parents fight for them to survive during the war period. She lost everything, her parents and her siblings everything that matters to her was wiped off during the war.

She was left with nothing alone in the field of blood before a kind-hearted woman appears before her

For she was black

"You know I hate to be reminded of the past!" She yells,

"Sorry, if that ruling your mood and just making some points from it"

"But that didn't explain what you want from her?"

"Is that necessary to know"

"Of course" she stood up angrily, " precisely yes, she's under my custody and is my right to know what a lord had with one of my maidens"

"Well, I'm too late?" Lady Emily asked, standing behind the door exit.
