Chapter 4 The Driggen

Erios waited until he saw a large beast poke it's head through the brush. Soon he realized what it was he instantly felt a bit scared. It was the feared Driggen! Erios figured his luck couldn't be that bad right from the jump. He expected any other beasts but that. If Wyverns were smaller versions of Dragons, then a Driggen could be described as the bridge between them. In fact nothing separated them from full blown Dragons except the size and destructive power.

Erios knew there could only be two reasons a Driggen would be on the ground. It was injured in battle or the worst outcome. It was mating season and a nest was nearby. Unlike a lot of beasts, Driggens were extremely territorial when nest and eggs where involved. From the Blue color, he assumed it was the male meaning the bigger much more powerful female wasn't far.

Driggens weren't a match for Dragons on a normal day but a female who recently laid eggs would go through a mana gain phase. Meaning after laying, the female was able to consolidate mana from an area and power herself up to fight off any threat including Dragons. It's a big reason Driggens were rumored to nest in the Gaia forest although it was never confirmed until now.

It immediately attacked with a rush as Erios dodged to the side. One thing he had to his advantage was that he knew it would stay on the ground due to the nest being near. Erios recovered just enough to look up in time to see the Driggen shooting off a fireball.

"Oh shit!!" Erios immediately tried to get out the way as it came and barely dodged the blast.

The Driggen seeing Erios dodge his fireball miss enraged him even more. To

him, Erios was the intruder. The Driggen just wanted Erios gone. He didn't care if he was dead or not. But unbeknownst to Erios the Driggen only attacked due to sensing Elijah's magic. Some gods were known to steal Driggen and Dragon eggs and this Driggen feared for his.

It rushed at Erios again as Erios put his hands together to try a magic attack. "Come on please work" Suddenly a fireball appeared in his hands and shot forward landing in front of the Driggen. "Yes it worked!!" Erios was happy because the Driggen obviously shocked, stopped in its tracks and eyed Erios cautiously. Erios immediately formed another a much bigger one and shot it off with lightening speed. It collided with the hind meaty area of the Driggens leg causing it to cry out while sending it back into a tree. It stood slowly visibly hurt.

Erios saw this as his chance to win. He immediately formed another and launched it when suddenly a large figure came rushing out the forest launching its own much more powerful fire blast. It completely absorbed Erios's blast and headed straight for him. He immediately put his arms up and yelled shield as a mana shield formed. He took the blast head on and barely was able to hold it as the shield began to crack under the immense blast. It eventually broke and the force sent him flying into a tree behind him as the female Driggen came out fully.

She licked the males wounds and they begin to heal slowly. It was massive compared to the male. Erios looked on in shock as there were no records of females being able to heal. He expected another blast but it never came. He slowly stood and realized the female was glaring but not approaching. He found it weird so when he took a step, the female let out a deep warning growl as Erios finally understood it must've been the proximity to the nest. After he placed his foot back he saw the female visibly relax a bit but still be on guard.

Erios now understanding decided to slowly back up until he noticed the Driggens were not chasing him just cautiously watching. Once he stepped back about 10 feet, he turned and started to walk away. He looked at the wound on his arm and decided to pull up his systems window.

Erios saw it showed how much he was injured so he decided to try something. He placed his hand over his arm and said heal. A light appeared and instantly his arm was back to normal.
