chapter 4

Lunchtime was soon finished and the day continued with different lesson teachers coming into the classroom. It soon clocked 5:00pm and the school gates were opened for the students to return to their respective homes.

Shin now had to find a way to return home. He decided to take the same route his father had used earlier in the morning. The route went straight from the school gate, turned right and went past the Kellinger school grounds which was a large sloping piece of land that was at the back of the administration block covered in grass ending on the road with a metallic wire fence separating them. It had been named by the students as sunset because of the multiple tall trees with dense canopies that formed a shade through out the entire day.

The distance from Shin's home to Kellinger high was 4.6km which was about a 48 minute walk if a person was walking at a faster pace. But Shin was new to this so it took him a bit longer.

When Shin reached his home area that he was familiar with, he let out a sigh of relief and hurriedly used a shortcut he knew to reach home.

He found his mother home who then asked him how his day went to which he replied it was alright. His mother knew that her son didn't usually say much so she didn't try to probe him with a lot of questions but instead brought out a meal for him as he was seated watching a bit of television. Ren soon came back and asked him the same question to which he replied the same. At the back of Shin's mind was Shelja's face which he could not seem to get out of his mind and soon the day ended.

New students would continue to come into the class all through the week. Then on Monday of the next week, a tall thin built boy was introduced and then was seated next to Shin. He introduced himself as Warrick Heim They started talking and finally became sort of friends. Shin only considered him as an acquaintance so he didn't bother much with him and only talked with him occasionally at first . Soon Shin would let down his guard and become close friends with Warrick.

Another student soon also was brought into the class and this was also a boy. He was a bit short with a medium build and small head. He was then seated on the seat infront of both Warrick and Shin. He then greeted both of them and he said " Am Bogry Dan" to which they both replied "okay" and then he looked forward. At one of the breaks during the day, Dan took out a small portable radio with black earphones from his brown backpack and this caught Warwick's attention. This little item brought these three closer and became friends.

After a few weeks of being in class with Shin, he noticed that Shin usually got flustered when he looked at Shelja and would normally take a few quick glances of her through the day. Warrick then during one of their conversations saw Shin taking a glance at her and soon dropped in a question "Hey do you like Shelja." to which Shin soon replied "What... what do you mean?" Then Warrick told him how he had noticed him looking at her a couple of times. Shin didn't deny that he always took a few glances at her. Shin's answer was "She intrigues me, I dont know why either."
