Chapter 43

Still confused and bewildered by James’ lack of seriousness over the significance of the prophecy, Morgan commented as he could. He privately questioned whether or not he could now commit to James and the task set before him by the Wolf Spirit, let alone love this immature man who didn’t seem to be overly concerned with the welfare of his people.

They entered the woodcarver’s shop by the back door. Miriam and another young woman who Morgan didn’t know were at the counter. Both were dressed as Morgan had seen Miriam the first time—in fringed, beaded deerskin dresses. Miriam was waiting on a customer. She looked up and smiled as the men entered. They stopped to wait for her under the rock outcropping on which stood the two wolves.

When she finished with the shopper, she ran from behind the counter and embraced Morgan. Then she looked up, and gestured at the wolves. “At last.” She hugged both Morgan and James at the same time. “White Wolf and Grey Wolf together.”
