Chapter 39

“It’s not like I met James, thought he was hot, and decided to dump you for him. It’s something infinitely more compelling than that. I’d never…” Morgan stopped, struggling to say the rest as his emotions tried to get the better of him. “I’d never leave you otherwise.” He tightened his grip on Nate’s hand.

“Do you love him?” Nate asked. “Does he love you?”

The questions brought Morgan up short. They made him realize he’d never thought of James in terms of love. Did he love James? He found the man attractive, and he’d responded to James’ embrace when they were in the hut. But did he love James? Or was his need to be with the man, to enter into this commitment, part of a plan that called him to be James’ mate?

Morgan realized love wasn’t the issue. He wasn’t leaving Nate because he loved James. He was leaving because he’d been called—called by the Wolf Spirit. And, even though both Robert and Great Eagle had said the choice was his, he felt now he had to answer the call of the wolf.
