“Your grandmother called Henry. He lived in Michipicoten. She planned on taking you and your mother there to hide so that André couldn’t find you. But on the day that Henry was to come to get you, André arrived first with the local authorities and a child welfare worker. They had a court order declaring Jenny was an unfit mother, and that you were to be turned over to André. They took you from us. I won’t describe the scene or your mother’s anguish at losing you. It serves no purpose for you to know those details.”
Morgan sat staring at his Uncle. Realizing how all this had come about had numbed him. He was too overwhelmed by hearing this to react.
However, Megan was not. “But that’s not possible! Wasn’t our mother given a chance to tell her side of the story? About his abuse, her fear for herself and us?” Megan blurted out angrily.
