The start of her Misery

Ch-31

A tear rolled down her eyes as she realized how she became an orphan. Laya hugged her knees and buried her face in her legs as she cried like a baby.

Why was God being unfair to her? What did she do to get the wrath of the people?

She didn't know when she fell asleep but she fell asleep.

--------------------------------

"Sign your inheritance to my name. Or else Die!!!" a man, whose face was covered with a mask said to her pointing the gun to her head.

"Leave me, Please," Laya begged as she tried to free her tied wrist but to no avail.

She was kicked and beaten by the people of masked men till she lost consciousness. When she fell unconscious, someone threw ice cold on her face to wake her up.

---------------------------------

Laya woke up in a swift when she felt someone poured water on her face. When she woke, she saw her mother-in-law was standing in front of her with an evil smile.

She realized whatever she saw earlier was a dream. She patted her chest in relief when she realized that she wasn't going to die.

Laya knew why her mother-in-law threw water on her. It's lunchtime, she has to cook food but did she forget that she wasn't allowed in the kitchen. She looked at Maha Lakshmi in confusion.

"A good daughter-in-law would never sleep in the morning," Maha Lakshmi said and left the room. Sighing Laya got up from her place and started changing her clothes. She changed the bedsheets and threw the wet sheets in the washing machine.

Laya didn't go out of her room the whole day. Once in a while her mother-in-law would come and check up on her to keep her away from sleeping.

Laya wondered if her mother-in-law has any PTSD problems. If not, why would she act like this? She was not invited to Lunch by anyone. So, she didn't go. Even during dinner, she wasn't invited. The whole day she hasn't had a single meal. Even though she was hungry she didn't dare to say her words. She saw her mother, Sharada would eat food only if her husband asks her to eat. If he wasn't at home, she would eat if her mother-in-law invites her to eat. Now… she shall follow how her mother did. If not, she was afraid of getting beaten.

She used to feel confused why her mother has to wait for someone's invitation to eat. Even though she was the one who cooked the food and served the food for everyone she was never the first person to eat. She was the last one to eat only if she has leftovers.

Now she understood her pain. She realized she was in no less situation than her.

There was some water in her room. She drank them and sat in front of Rahul's study table with a novel in her hands to continue reading the book she started. At that second, she got Rahul's call. She spoke with him perfunctorily and hung the call like if she speaks with him, she might die the next second. When he inquired what's wrong with her, she replied it's her period. Rahul understood she is tired and hung the call. After the call, she went back to book reading.

It's a thriller novel "The Murder Mystery". She found books in Rahul's study. So, she picked one and started reading it sitting on his table. Suddenly the door burst open revealing her mother-in-law in her husband's study. Her eyes turned red due to anger. Laya doesn't know what she did that triggered her mother-in-law's anger. She subs consciously shrunk back into her seat at the memory of her being slapped harshly.

Maha Plucked a handful of Laya's hair and slapped her right and left without sparing any effort. "Don't use my son's office!" she warned and threw Laya out of the room and locked the room in front of her eyes.

Laya felt dizzy with all the things that happened to her. She didn't have a single meal today, and she was beaten twice by her mother-in-law. And she knew there would be no one would come to help her.

When her mother-in-law plucked her hair and slapped her, she felt her world started spinning. She wanted to do nothing but fell asleep but she remembered her mother-in-law throwing ice water on her for sleeping in the morning. She forced herself to stay awake. Even now when she was reading, she slapped her for using her husband's things. She would have left if she asked her to leave. But she chose the harsh way to tell her.

Laya staggered her way to her room with the book. She closed the door to their room. She sat on the bed and decided to sleep off for the day. But again… her mother-in-law opened the door with a bang and threw a tattered blanket and a stinking pillow to her.

"Sleep on the floor!" she ordered and left.

She knew it's a rule in their house for women to sleep on the floor during periods. It's just that this rule long expired but now it came into life since it's Laya's case. She wondered how many other tricks her mother-in-law would use in the coming days. She wondered if Rahul knew these things or not. Before she could think further sleep engulfed her body.
