Attitudes

Diva and Hailey neared their table with the former looking around at the arrangement. Her eyes took in the details of students eating, drinking, and conversing as she remembered what had happened yesterday. ' I expected the news of yesterday to make headlines in the school and you know with me in the center, but it seems that the students here take it as normal '.

Hailey looked around and at once understood what Diva was talking about. The students were laughing with a majority conversing about what they had learned or what had happened in their classes. She smiled and explained to her friend as she was still new and not much aware of how things happened in their school.

' Hmm...Fighting is kind of an everyday thing here and Emma and his friends are usually the perpetrators. It's not normal and it is very punishable '.

' Hmm.. we got to spell like kindergartens. That's not a punishment but a lesson. Kind of a class test '.

' I heard the Principal was not in a good state yesterday so that was why the punishment was handled by the detention woman, who of course, likes Emma and treats him as her favorite student '.

Diva hummed and continued eating. Certainly, things here, were not as she had expected. To be ran fairly and without discrimination.

As they ate in the silence that followed, Diva heard voices. Loud ones and soft ones. The loud ones, she knew to be the ones of people in their heads, and the soft ones, the words that left their lips. And as she listened attentively whilst eating, the words both loud and soft carried with them descriptions of Emma's and his friends' negative attitudes.

' They are here '. She heard Hailey say. Her voice of softness became loud in her ears because of her closeness, but soon with the passing minutes, she heard the softer voices of the other students grow louder, as they now commented of the words from their heads.

' See as they walk with confidence. With bad confidence '. Diva who had not yet raised her head rolled her eyes and continued eating, but when she felt her gaze on her, she raised it and looked at them. Indeed they were sauntering to the seats adjacent to them. Somewhere between listening to Hailey's constant declaration of her hatred for Emma and trying to calm her down, she had forgotten that they took to sit for the past two days, the table adjacent to them and even scrabbed their names on it.

' I can't do this Diva. I can't keep shut and not get angry when I see them. They, especially him, irks me and get me all flared. Do you know for how many months, I was mocked in class and treated as a nobody?. So sorry, I can't be quiet and pretend these people don't exist when they are '.

Diva hummed and from the space provided between Hailey's head and shoulder blade, she saw them take the table.

The four friends sat on their chairs, placing their trays on the table. The tint of red still stayed on his lips and once in a while, he would lick them and Diva would get stuck looking at those lips as he did it so sensationally. Only when he opened his eyes and lips and turned to his friends, did she come back to her right senses. And as she had earlier thought, this Emma guy was a distraction and someone she was meant to avoid. She sighed and looked at her food to continue eating.

Emma smiled when he noticed she was not looking at him anymore. He knew she was watching him and that she was getting affected by what he was doing.

He also kept it to mind, the way she had looked at him and the words she had said in the hallway. They bore fear in them and he accepted the opportunity to tread on it, to see to what point her supposed hardihood would end. She was spellbound by what he did earlier. He knew from it, that he could distract her, sway her a little, and maybe get back at her friend via her. Pulling her to his side would get him mad and he couldn't wait to push him beyond his hold, to witness what worse things he could do when enraged.
