"Alpha Jason, Amaya, please, come and sit." My father said as he gestured towards two empty seats to his right.
I looked up at Jason and hesitated, for some reason I was worried that it might offend the other council members if I took a seat at the table.
The spots were traditionally reserved for representatives of each race, their lunas, or their heirs, right now I wasn't sure where I stood.
"It will be fine, my love." Jason whispered tenderly in my ear as he took my hand and led me to the empty seats.
I noticed my mother's smile as she observed the interaction between Jason and I. There was no denying that we did have good chemistry between us. Everything just felt so easy and so right with him.
Jason was also a gentleman, I thought his was walking over to sit at my father's right, but instead, he pulled out the seat for me.
I could already feel myself blushing as I was taken by surprise with his actions. Most men no longer did that.
"Shouldn't you sit there?" I asked him as quietly as possible, I knew that most alphas hated it when they were questioned.
It was in our nature to be in command, so we hated it when people questioned or undermined us. I've heard of alpha's punishing their own mates for contradicting them in public.
'Jason and Hercules are not like that.' I heard Ares say in my head.
'Hercules?' I asked her.
'His wolf. The moment we laid eyes on him the bond began to form. I can speak to him now.' Ares told me.
I couldn't help but smile at the thought that my wolf and his were now speaking. It also made me happy to hear that Ares didn't think they were the kind to silence us.
"My love?" Jason asked as he noticed that I was distracted.
"Sorry, I was talking to my wolf." I told him as I sat down.
He simply smiled at me and took the seat next to mine.
"Hercules said she is lovely, just like her human." He praised me as he gave me the most handsome smile.
I couldn't help but blush as he said those words, the world around us didn't seem to exist when we were together. I felt like I was the only person in the room under his gaze.
My father cleared his throat to get our attention, I blushed even harder when I realized that we were having a romantic moment in front of the whole council of supernatural beings.
I had never felt so embarrassed in my life, I not only shamed my father, but my mate as well.
"I'm sorry, Alpha Matthew. Your daughter is just so beautiful and so amazing that I can't seem to keep my eyes off of her." Jason said as he saved me from embarrassment.
"Newly mated couples, what can you do?" My father asked, making the whole table laugh.
I mouthed Jason my thanks, to which he simply smiled and took my hand.
"Now, on to business." My father said as he continued the meeting. "I understand that Alpha Cain is taking offense with me naming my daughter as my heir."
"It's preposterous!" Alpha Cain shouted.
"There is nothing against it under werewolf law!" Another alpha contradicted him.
"We have already discussed this while Alpha Jason and my daughter were in my office, according to werewolf law it is an Alpha's choice as to who will succeed him." My father said as his voice boomed across the room. "The only way Amaya will not be the next Alpha of the Shadows Pack is if she steps down as my heir or if someone from within my pack challenges her for the title and wins."
"No one would dare challenge her." Beta Daniel added. "Everyone in the Shadows Pack supports Amaya's claim as heir."
"Even her brother? Your son?" Alpha Cain questioned as he looked at Merrick who was standing behind me.
"Yes, even I." Merrick answered in a confident and proud tone. "My sister will be a hundred times better than I as Alpha."
"And what of succession?" Alpha Cain asked. "She is mated to another Alpha, and not just any Alpha, an original pack Alpha. Who will be heir to either the Silver Moon Pack and who will be heir to the Shadows Pack after them?"
"That is a problem for the couple to resolve." The first alpha that spoke up told him.
"Alpha Cain, you are the only one that is against this. The matter is settled, this council will not hear another word about it!" My father said as he scolded the man. "Should you bring it up again we will have you dragged out of this meeting room, is that understood?" He asked as his eyes narrowed as he glared at Alpha Cain.
"Understood." Alpha Cain unwillingly replied.
My father simply nodded, he then turned to me and Jason.
"On behalf of the council, Alpha Jason, we would like to congratulate you and Amaya for finding each other. It's not everyday that an Alpha meets his mate on her twentieth birthday. May your lives be filled with love and joy." My father said, making Jason and I both smile.
"Thank you, sir." Jason responds with a respectful nod. Him addressing my father as sir was already a big thing. One alpha respecting another as his superior was rare, especially among the original packs.
"As her father, however," My father added. "I must warn you, if you ever so much as hurt a hair on her head or make her shed a sad tear, I will come over to the Silver Moon Pack's territory and rip you limb from limb."
I wanted to laugh when I heard my father's threat. His words made my heart swell at how much my father loved and cared for me.
"Sir, I would never dream of harming her. She is my world, my entire being, my reason for breathing." Jason said beside me.
"It's not like dad would need to come over to beat you up, I'm pretty sure Amaya could do that herself." Merrick said, making the whole room erupt in laughter.
"Without a doubt I'm sure she could." Jason told my brother as he kept his eyes on me.
