I stood in front of the administration block of Harvard University, as I stared ahead. To say I was nervous was an understatement, I could not believe that I was finally here.
The whole school was big and extremely beautiful, as I had imagined.
I was supposed to go in there to get my information so I would know the dorm I was staying in, I swallowed as I remembered the goodbye I and mother had shared before I had left.
It was so emotional, I would miss her but I hoped she would at least find some happiness. She was going through a lot, just like me, but now I was not there. I hoped she would be able to take care of herself.
*Breath.* I told myself as I took a deep breath, and somehow found courage. Once I was ready, I opened the door and walked in.
The first thing that hit me was the Air conditioner, it was extremely high making the place almost cold.
"Hello, good day," I said to the secretary whose desk was there. She looked up and my breath caught in my throat.
She was really pretty.
"Hi, how may I help you?" She asked as she stared at me, a polite smile resting on her face.
"Uhm…I am a new student here, a scholarship student.." I said as I cleared my throat awkwardly.
Before she could respond, the door was kicked open and some boy came in.
I looked at him and my eyes widened, beautiful was the word for him. He wore black joggers with a gray hoodie, his hair was messy and he had a goofy smile on his face. He wore simple crocs, but it made him look cuter.
"Mr. Jackson, may I help you?" The secretary said with what sounded like a Stern voice. It sounded like she was forcing it though, instead of him being upset he only smiled more.
"There is supposed to be a package delivered for me Miss, and I was told to come here to get it." She said with a husky voice, which did not surprise me at all.
I mean, look at him. He was like a snack, of course, his voice would be sexy too.
"It is not here, now if you can get out I will be grateful." She said and his smile only widened. He stepped back and left, closing the door quietly.
Well…that was weird.
"Sorry dear, please what is your name? So I can check my system." She said with a polite smile which I returned.
"My name is Lily Anderson," I said and she nodded as her eyes shifted to her desktop and she began to type something.
After a while, she finally looked up at me and smiled.
"Yes, you are in the department of literature and English, correct?" The secretary said and I nodded.
"Alright, so I will give you a schedule of your classes and when and where they will take place. Also your room key, you have a roommate." She said as she continued computing whatever she was.
I nodded, I was aware I had a roommate. But what surprised me was, they did not give me a low-quality room. They gave me the same as everyone else, or so I thought at least.
"Alright, here you are. You are in room 056." She said and I nodded and took all the things she handed over.
"Thank you," I said as I walked out of the building with a small smile, immediately I was out a sigh of relief escaped my mouth.
********
Once I had calmed myself down, I decided to get going.
"Hey fresher, wait up." I heard someone say to me and when I turned I saw it was the boy from the office.
What did he want? Wait…did he wait for me to come out?
"Yes?" I said to him in a questioning manner as I stopped walking.
"Hi, my name is Damien Jackson." He said with a polite smile as he extended his hand for me to shake.
I stared at it for a while, not saying anything. These were the kind of people and things I needed to avoid in this school. Unnecessary socialization was never my thing after all.
"Sorry but, may I help you?" I said to him after a while. He looked embarrassed as he slowly kept his hand down.
Now I feel bad, oh just great.
"Uhm…I was thinking maybe you wanted a guide to your hostel. I figured you would not know the place since you are new." He said, his voice was lower now and the smile which had been on his face had disappeared.
Wow, I was a jerk. He only wanted to help me, and I had rejected him in such a manner. I could not even do as much as introduce myself, oh.
"Uhm…I…I am sorry." I said I felt quite stupid.
"Not it is fine." He said
"So, should I still take you there?" He questioned and I nodded my head quietly. I did not know the place.
"Alright, let's go." He said and we began walking back.
~~~~~~~
"Thank you for bringing me here, if you had not I would have most likely gotten missing., " I said, feeling sad for mistreating him.
"It is fine, just tell me your name." He said with a smile.
"Lily, I am Lily Anderson," I said and he smiled and extended his hand which I shook.
"Your name is pretty."
"Thank you, and I am sorry again," I said to him and he smiled.
"If you want me to forgive you then allow me to pick you up for a party tonight." He said with a smirk.
"Nah, I am not the party type," I said awkwardly.
"I will come to pick you up by 8:30 pm, be ready Lily." He said and walked away without even allowing me to complete my sentence.
Oh, college was already looking quite different for me, I wondered what else it had in store for me.
Sighing, I told my belongings and went into the hostel building. To say I was excited to see what would happen next, was an understatement.
Sorry if any Harvard student reads this chapter...I find it a bit cringe Myself. Anyways...it's gonna get better.
