Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

If I Can't Have Him, No One Will

The words still reverberated in my mind making it spin and hurt at the same time.

Was what I was hearing even true?

In truth, I didn't know her at all but from seeing her at the hearing to giving out the sentence up to the time that she left the hall, only a few words could describe her; ruthless, authoritative, and a tyrant.

But from the time that they entered our chambers, I saw someone else deep within her eyes. It was like she was saying sorry but at the same time her face was just as emotionless and cold as always.

And now seeing her crying and confessing about someone that was just a breath away from her. It made me realize that deep down on a place that has been covered by layers upon layers of armament, resided a small part of her that defined her as a human. After all, she was just like the rest of us.

"Mom I am sorry but I've decided that if he won't acknowledge my presence, then he won't be around to share anything with anyone." Nevaeh continued after letting us absorb the bombshell that she had just dropped.

"No, don't say that baby... Everything will be alright, you are just angry and confused at this time. But I assure you that after you talk with him, am sure you'll revoke the ruling." Queen Eulalie comforted her daughter as she thought of how she became this resentful.

"It's fine if everyone hates me, but I can't share him mom. I want him to be mine, and mine alone... I am sorry Lola for taking away the most precious person in your life." Nevaeh explained further before she turned her head to face me.

I took pity on her as I watched her deep in the eyes.

"Please sedate them. They have had a rough morning. And use all the magical herbs on them, I'll cover all the expenses... I hope that when they are awake they will have resolved their differences." Queen Eulalie stated as she released her stubborn daughter from her embrace.

Soon enough a powder substance was sprayed on our faces and we lost vision as soon as we sniffed it.

...

On another part of the castle inside a large room with a long table and chairs, the King was sitting on his throne which was placed in a higher position than the rest of the furniture in the room.

I don't even know why rulers seem to have a mind that they are always higher in position than the rest of their subjects. And that's the reason for many Kingdoms fall.

In my opinion, one in power should be a servant to their subjects and not a supreme ruler.

The King was pissed as he stared at the empty table where his council members were supposed to meet so that important aspects concerning the growth of the Kingdom would be discussed.

But until now no one has shown up and even without valid reasons for their absentees.

If it was one occasion, then the King would just let it go. But two consecutive events taking place and all involved him to a certain degree. The King swore to make all of the ones responsible pay for wasting his precious time.

He got up and decided to leave as he couldn't just wait for a whole counsel that seemed to forget their duties to the Kingdom.

Bang!

Just as he got up from his throne, the massive double doors swung open and several council members walked in with their heads bowed down.

"Your Majesty!" They all said in unison as they bowed to their King.

Only silence greeted them back making their backs start sweating. They remained in that position for fear that the King would just take their lives if they dared to get up.

To the council members, it was like an eternity to them as most of them were old and scrawny and their bodies couldn't support their actions for longer. Soon enough their faces started to turn red as their robes were slowly getting wet from their sweat.

"Is this how you treat your King nowadays? Or all of your brains are starting to skip important aspects as these?" The King chastised as he scolded the old council members.

At this time, they were all at his mercy but there are things that even the King couldn't think of doing. And with that, he forgave them with a request to know what made them late for the session.

"We were at the hearing of Lola's son my majesty." One of the elders mumbled but the King's ears were sharp enough to pick the words.

And with that he became curious. He knew that boy too well and also despised him a lot for always being around her daughter.

But what shocked him every time since breakfast was the fact that the boy named Lucifer, was on his death bed. So what would have merit for him to be on a hearing which the results were already known. Only death would follow.

"How did the hearing go? Was it fair in any way? And what did the boy do?" The King asked as he told the council members to take their seats for fear that they will collapse for bowing for a long time.

"It went well sire and it was fair. But even us don't know what happened as Princess Nevaeh just gave out her ruling straight." One of the council members answered after they were all seated.

"Mmmh!.. I wonder... That's truly my daughter... Let's start with our discussions." The King stated and soon different warmth enveloped the room and everyone eased a bit.

...

I woke up to find that it was already dark as in my peripheral vision I could see a candle burning away in the darkness.

The room that I was in was different from the earlier one. At least this was tidy and had little of the pungent smell of medicinal materials that assaulted my nostrils in the morning.

I tried to move but I couldn't and that's when a small and smooth voice reached my ears which made me froze in place not even daring to breathe.

I knew the voice clearly as it was the same one that passed my sentence. Then it was the same voice that confessed to have feelings for me in the morning.

And that's when I knew that I wasn't alone in the small room.

"You are finally awake." Nevaeh effused as I turned my head around to see her face close to mine.

I panicked and wanted to run for it, but another part of me said that I should be the man I was born to be.

As I forced myself to turn around, my body seemed heavy as I took notice of all the bandages around my chest and torso.

"Aaaahh!" I let out a pain endurance sigh as I just stayed the way I was.

"What are you doing here, Princess?" I croaked as the voice that I had been expecting to come out never did rather a surprising and laughable one.

Hahaha! Hahahaha!

The only response that I got was a burst of constrained laughter.

"I woke up here, just as you did. I would say that this is rather depressing to see... That you slept here all those years since you were young and never complained about it." Nevaeh murmured as she scooped herself in my embrace.

I was at first shocked but I couldn't do anything to stop her from what she was doing. At that moment, it felt good and I longed for it to never end. At that moment it was like I was in heaven as who wouldn't feel blessed to be warmly embraced by a Princess from the Royal Family and possibly the future Queen of the Kingdom. At that moment, I forgot of all the bad things that she had done to me and I wished for that time could have stopped so that I wouldn't think of my possible doom tomorrow.

At that moment, I knew that she was just comforting me as she just couldn't change her mind on my sentencing.

I just prayed that in my next life, I would be lucky enough to live a free life.

"I am sorry for being a pain in your life since we were young. I just wanted for you to notice me and that would have been enough of a blessing."

"This is goodbye, Lucifer. And am happy to spend the last night of your life with you."

"Am sorry for everything. And I hope to see you again in our next life where we would live the way that we want. Again, am sorry."

"I was up earlier and I got the results of the beasts you are to face in the caged arena. It hurts my heart to tell you that even my dear sister choose a beast that would just devourer you in a single bite."

"She chose the Sea Serpent. But you can rejoice as the people chose a protector for you. And my choice is a secret and will be unveiled in the arena."

"Goodbye Lucifer... I love you."
