Alexa

Naomi finally arrived in the countryside a few hours after leaving the city. Kaia never even told her what happened to her, just that she needed Naomi at the hospital she was currently staying in. Naomi had been worried sick the entire time because Kaia had told her that the situation was dire. She assumed the worst, since she was aware of Kaia's condition. She wasn't half wrong about her suspicions, though...

Naomi rushed into the hospital and asked for directions to Mia Hollings' room. When she arrived at the door, she didn't even hesitate to shove the door open, startling Kaia. She quickly rushed over to Kaia's side and plopped down beside the hospital bed, looking at Kaia with a worried expression. "You should've told me sooner…! You've been in this hospital by yourself all this time. Isn't it lonely?" she asked, touching her friend's hand. Kaia smiled softly, her hand tracing over her stomach. "Actually...the reason why I called you here is because I'm pregnant and about to give birth. I fought hard to keep this baby alive. Feeling it kick or move made everything worth it," she said before looking up at Naomi with a gentle smile. "Naomi, I named you the godmother of my child. If I die, please take care of it. If I survive, I have to spend a few weeks in recovery and get my bone marrow transplant. They found a suitable donor a week ago..." She smiled softly before letting out a sigh as she leaned her head back.

Naomi was speechless. So many thoughts ran through her head and she wasn't able to articulate even a single thing into a coherent sentence. She just stared at Kaia, who had an amused smile on her face, seeing Naomi so tongue-tied. Finally, something occurred to Naomi, and she studied Kaia carefully before slowly asking, "What about Alex?"

Kaia's facial expression stiffened at the name. She looked down, sadness clouding her previously clear eyes as she lovingly caressed her round stomach. "Naomi, I don't want Alex to know...you know the reason for why I'm in hiding in the first place..."

Naomi exhaled rather loudly, as if she was annoyed. "Yea, but if you told him, he could probably help!" Kaia quickly shook her head. "He can't…the person that's after me is too powerful and wants me out of the picture. We made a deal already. As long as I leave, Alex won't be harmed. Besides, I don't even know how much longer I have to live. The transplant is only a possible cure for my condition." A pained expression flitted across her face when she said those words.

Naomi sighed. "Alright, I can't convince you otherwise when you set your mind to something. When your child is born, I'll keep it safe until you're well and out of the hosp--oh wait!" Something occurred to Naomi. She still didn't know the gender of the child. She looked at Kaia with an intense gaze. "Do you know the gender of your child yet?" Kaia was initially startled by Naomi's sudden outburst, but quickly recovered and replied, "It's a girl." Naomi smiled warmly and congratulated Kaia before asking, "What are you planning to name her?" Kaia didn't even hesitate before replying with a gentle and tender smile, "Alexa..."

The next day, the procedures went as planned. Naomi was nothing but supportive and encouraging towards Kaia throughout the entire process. She gave small tips and tricks to calm Kaia down. Although Naomi never had a c-section, she had given birth before and experienced the anxiety that Kaia felt. Kaia blacked out after her child finally saw the light of day. Naomi was the one who went with the nurse to perform a thorough check-up of the newborn, Alexa.

Even though Alexa was born premature, her weight was a good ratio. Weighing 5lb's and 3oz's, she had very distinguishable blonde hair and blue eyes. There was no doubt that Alex was the father.

They kept Alexa in the hospital for a few days to help her get her weight up, as well as to make sure she was healthy. Kaia had gotten a chance to hold the child in her arms and cried tears of joy. She also felt a bitter pang in her heart when she saw Alexa's blue eyes and tufts of blonde hair. She held onto the child for a long time, rocking back and forth rhythmically.

When the time came for Alexa to leave the hospital, Naomi took her back to the city. Kaia was reluctant to let Alexa go, but she knew it was for the best. She would come for her child once she got better.

Once Naomi returned to the city, she got baby Alexa situated in her home. She spent a few days just tending to Alexa and getting everything she would need, such as bottles, formula, diapers, baby wipes, a few toys here and there, etc. She also bought a baby bouncer and a swing. Naomi didn't buy a crib for Alexa because she wanted Alexa to sleep next to her. This was so that she would immediately wake up if anything happened to Alexa. As a precaution, Naomi used pillows as barricades to keep herself from rolling near or on Alexa. She also added soft pillows around the foot of the bed, in case Alexa happened to roll off the bed. Since Alexa was still extremely young, she would often cry at night, which resulted in many sleepless nights for Naomi. Thankfully, Alexa was finally able to go on a sleeping schedule, which led to less crying in the middle of the night.

Throughout all these sleepless nights, Naomi still kept up with her work. Her performance was no less than stellar, which earned her a certain degree of respect among her coworkers. She ended up doing most of the paperwork and other document-related work at home where she could watch over Alexa.

A few days after Naomi took Alexa for her two weeks check-up, she decided she would take Alexa to the company with her. Naomi carried Alexa in her arms while tucking some documents under her other arm. She was extremely nervous as she made her way to the elevator. As she crossed the spacious lobby of Sabor Sights, Alexa was met with many smitten and curious gazes from the company employees. A few brave employees couldn't hold back their excitement and walked up to Alexa, gushing over how adorable she was. After quite a bit of gushing, Naomi told them that she needed to go meet the big boss. Many of the employees that had started to gather around Alexa were extremely disappointed and reluctantly watched the cute little baby leave.

When Naomi finally reached the top floor of the elevator, she stopped outside Alex's office. She hesitated and tried to calm her nerves before knocking on the door and nervously saying, "Mr. Sabor, I brought your documents." She heard Alex tell her to come in and she nervously grabbed the door handles and pushed. She walked inside, carefully studying Alex's expression to see his reaction to Alexa.

Alex was busy looking over a stack of documents in front of him. As Naomi made her way over to his desk, Alex said, "Thanks, Naomi. Can you tell Zac I need to see him--?" He briefly glanced up from the desk, but instantly did a double take. Alex froze. He stared at Alexa with a startled look in his eyes. "N--Naomi, why didn't you tell me you had a baby?" he asked, tilting his head slightly to the side. Naomi smiled with a small laugh. "Oh, this isn't my baby. My friend just had her, and she's sick, so I'm just helping her out since I'm the godmother," she stated while carefully looking at Alex. Alex gave a small but tender smile as he looked at Alexa. It was the first of many since Kaia's "death." He stood up from his desk and walked around to where Naomi stood with Alexa in her arms. "She's beautiful...tell your friend congratulations for me," he said in a tender and soft tone.

He reached a finger up to touch Alexa's tiny hands. Alexa curiously looked at the finger and grabbed onto it. She had a small grin on her face as she shook his finger in her tiny little hands. She let out a tiny little giggle as her grin widened. Alex's gaze softened when he saw her smile and felt her soft and tiny hands. He always wanted to have a kid with Kaia. A baby like Alexa. Small, cheerful, and utterly adorable. It didn't matter what the child's gender was, he would love it unconditionally because it was his and Kaia's precious child.

Naomi couldn't help but smile. Initially, she was worried that she was making the wrong decision to bring Alexa with her. She was worried that seeing Alexa would be akin to getting stabbed in the heart for Alex. After all, despite the fact that Alexa inherited Alex's blonde hair and blue eyes, she had the same crinkle in her eyes as Kaia whenever she smiled. Thankfully, she made the right decision to let Alex meet Alexa. It was the first time she saw Alex's face light up since he woke up from his unconscious state and found out that Kaia was "dead". Naomi held Alexa up higher. "Do you want to hold her?" she asked. She could tell that Alex was attached to Alexa. It was practically love at first sight!

Alex was hesitant at first, but he guardedly took the child into his arms. With help from Naomi, he carefully held Alexa in his arms. He slowly swayed as he walked back to his desk, sinking down into his chair. He lifted his free hand to run a finger over Alexa's cheek gently. "What's her name?" he asked, which brought a huge grin to Naomi's face. "Her name is Alexa..." Alex hadn't been expecting the child to have a name similar to his. His eyes never left Alexa as he softly said, "Isn't that something? Baby Alexa, my name is Alex..." He gazed down at the tiny creature that quietly laid in his arms with a tranquil expression.

Naomi looked at him and smiled. "I have to do something right quick. Do you mind if she kept you company for a bit?" she asked in the calmest tone she could muster. She was practically squealing inside, loving every minute of the scene that was unfolding in front of her. She knew Kaia would kill her if she found out about it. But it wasn't like she would know from a few hundred miles away, right? After a while, Alex insisted on keeping Alexa with him as Naomi went around doing her job. Alex only handed Alexa back to Naomi when it came to changing the diapers. Other than that, he did the feeding and the burping with Naomi's guidance. The few employees that came into the office were shocked upon seeing that Alex had such a gentle side to him.

Towards the end of the day, Naomi finished up her work, putting the final touches in place. She met up with Zac and explained a few things about the upcoming debut for one of Sabor Sights' rookie singers. Once they were finished, Naomi went to get Alexa. She pushed the door open, only to come across the most adorable sight ever. Alex was relaxed in his chair, his feet up on the desk as he slept. Alexa was on his chest, snoozing away as well. Naomi smiled and secretly pulled out her phone, snapping a few pictures. They looked so peaceful together, maybe because of instinct. Instead of waking them up, Naomi went back out and found some other things to work on.
