After saying goodbye to the Shidous, Thomas runs back to his grandparent's home, happy that he would see his father after more than two weeks. While he found a new friend to play with and spend his time with, Thomas was still a young boy that seek the love of his parents, and being away for so long made him miss both of his parents, especially his mom, who was still in the hospital.
When he arrived at his home, Thomas noticed a familiar ford fiesta in the driveway. As soon as he realized whose car that was, he dashed inside shouting after his father.
"Dad!"
Jonathan was talking with his parents when all three of them heard Thomas's shout making them smile at the young boy's excitement. Like any good father, Jonathan got up and hugged his son. A minute goes by until he lets his son back on the floor ruffling his hair a little.
"How's my little warrior doing?"
Hearing his father's words, Thomas's eyes went wide open before he blushed in embarrassment, remembering his spars with Irina.
"What? You thought that my mother would not tell me that you have a girlfriend. And that you can't wait to go over to her house every day?"
"Now, now, Jon, don't embarrass my baby. He's almost eight years old, we don't have to remind him about his lovely little girlfriend that he plays with, right Tom?"
"Why, grandma!"
The adults laugh when they saw just how red the boy became when a sudden tap made everyone smile even brighter making the boy turn around, only to freeze in place when he saw who was standing in the doorway.
"Mommy!"
Without caring about anything else, Thomas run towards his mother, before he hug her as tightly as he could, fearing that everything was just an illusion. Kate was doing everything in her power to fight those tears, but no matter how hard she struggle, she knew just how much her baby missed her, after all, she missed him more than anything in this world. Still hugging his mother, Thomas then turns towards his father almost blaming him for not telling him that Kate would come with him today.
"Dad, why didn't you tell me that mommy is going to come with you?"
"We wanted to surprise you. And seeing how you are hugging her, I'd say that we succeed."
Ignoring the smug on his father's face, Thomas turn his attention back to his mother, feeling strange that she hadn't spoken even once.
"Mommy, Mommy is something wrong? Did I do something that made you angry at me? Is that why you aren't talking?"
Kate gave him a sad smile before shaking her head, telling him that it wasn't his fault. Since Thomas was quite mature for his age, she shows her neck, pointing with her finger at it. It didn't take him too long to realize that his mother couldn't talk due to the injury she suffered back at the zoo, an injury he had provoked. Once he saw that Thomas buried his heading in his mother's bosom, tears flowed out of his, scaring both of his parents as well as his grandparents.
Seeing her son's sudden change, Kate panicked not knowing what she should do when out of nowhere everything that wasn't too heavy around the room raised into the air, levitating a few centimeters from their initial position. None of the knew what was happening, but for some reason, Kate found the whole situation similar to what happened at the zoo and because of that she gently caressed the back of her son, trying to calm him down.
As soon as she start doing that, all of the objects fell back as if nothing ever happened, further proving her crazy thought. If what they saw today wasn't a sign then nothing could make her believe that something was wrong. Thomas's tears, his sudden change as well as the levitating objects made her realize that the reason behind her baby's tears was most likely related to what happened at the zoo.
Still hugging her son, Kate signaled Jon to bring her something to write, while she made her way towards the nearest chair putting her son on her lap, not letting him get out of her grasp, not that he wanted. As soon as Jon came back with a notebook and a pen, Kate write something down before handing it back to her husband. Despite how strange those words seemed, Jon knew that his wife must have found something otherwise, she wouldn't have asked this strange question.
"Tommy, mommy feels that you are a little different from before. You have something you want to tell us, sweetheart?"
Tom looks up at his mother for a few seconds before nodding at her, before he righted himself and sat up on the nearest chair. He wipes his tears before telling them what happened to him and what he had found since that day. About how he run away from the zoo fearing that he killed his mother, about his meeting with Mars, which almost made his grandpa run after a knife, but when all of them saw the cobra making its way into the living room, without a worry, then all froze fearing that the snake might bite Thomas. Contrary to their belief, Mars simply climbed onto the table stopping beside Thomas before making himself comfortable on the boy's head.
He told them everything, in as much detail as he could remember. And while neither he nor Mars knew all that much about the wizards and witches of England, Thomas tried to remember as much as he could about them. He also told them about his desire to learn all of the healing spells and charms as well as everything that would make him and his loved ones safe, just in case something might happen in the future.
By the time Thomas finished explaining everything, his family was long staring at him in shock, barely processing every detail he had just told them. The first one to break out of that shocked state was Kate, who quickly took the notebook and the pen and write another question, before showing it to Thomas.
[What about your friend, is he dangerous?]
"I don't know mommy, Mars didn't hurt me, nor does he care all that much about anything other than eating and yelling at me when I'm doing something wrong."
[Tom, I might be wrong, but it seems to me that you are somehow understanding him?]
"Yes, mommy. I found out by mistake that I can talk with the snakes. I can prove it to you if you want."
[It's not that I don't trust you sweetheart, but can you make your friend stand in the middle of the table ?]
Without answering her, Thomas start hissing making everyone look at him in disbelief but that disbelief changed into shock when the snake hissed back before slowly making its way towards the middle of the table, before turning his head towards Kate, as if he was asking her if she was happy now. Once they saw that Thomas wasn't lying, their mood changed into a heavy one, mostly because they now realize why their boy was so adamant about reading and "playing" all day with that book of his. He wanted to heal Kate's injury since he felt guilty for hurting his mother.
[My baby. I'm so sorry, we didn't know that you are hating yourself for that. I promise you sweetie that mommy will always love you, no matter if you can heal me or not.]
That night, Thomas sleep in his mother's arms, and for the first time in a few weeks, both of them fell asleep without a problem.
