The next morning was his first day of second year, as usual he got out of bed before the rest and was ready long before them, he took out his books to carry them in his arms, carrying them in the storage given away at Castelobruxo would raise suspicions, soon he was in the large dining room, there were already other students in the place, nothing to be surprised, so he sought his seat and proceeded to breakfast.
A large tureen filled with oatmeal, platters of smoked herring, toast and plates of eggs and bacon.
As soon as students began to arrive in the large dining room he decided to leave, he had to get to the classroom and he liked to walk at his own pace.
Then he noticed a cat staring at him from a corridor, it was not difficult to guess the identity of this cat, obviously it was not Professor McGonagall but Mrs. Norris, the cat that belonged to Argus Flich, the watcher and warden of Hogwarts.
William looked at the cat and smiled, then she moved away but it was difficult to fool the white-haired man, the truth is that inside the castle there were very few places that could escape the mind's eye, it was not only Mrs. Norris who was watching him but also Argus Flich himself and the reason for this was not very difficult to guess.
Knowing what was going on William decided to divert his path, walk down other corridors a little further away from the ones that students would commonly select in those hours, there were even fewer portraits in those corridors, but William could feel Flich's gaze nearby and so when he had reached the place he considered ideal he stopped his steps.
"The brilliant Hogwarts warden following a boy who hasn't made any trouble?" said William aloud without looking back.
Argus who was hiding behind a pillar raised an eyebrow and his hand shook slightly, maybe he could show a brave failing when teachers are around, but the truth was he was quite the coward when it came to real battles.
"You don't need to hide, it's better if we talk directly face to face" William turned and looked straight towards the pillar behind which Argus Flich was hiding, the latter didn't take long to come out with his ruined appearance and slightly erect posture, he was still trying to maintain his identity looking at William over his shoulder.
"Who said I was hiding?" asked Argus in annoyance.
"Sure, it must be my mistake... the truth after being a squib my sensitivity to the presence of people is a bit higher than the others, I can feel when I'm being watched from far away, maybe it's Mrs. Norris, I could have made a mistake" William turned once more and started walking while in his mind he counted to three.
"Wait!" exclaimed Argus to stop William who slowly turned to look at him. The orderly was hesitant in what he wanted to say, he looked like a child trying to ask his mother for money for candy.
"H-how?" was the question that came from Argus' wrinkled lips.
"Like what?" asked William
"how did you stop being a squib?" finally the question that William had wanted to hear since a year ago came from the lips of the Hogwarts warden, one of the most known squibs in the magical world and who most wanted to be able to manipulate magic, to the point that he envies the young wizards who enter every year and to retaliate he punishes them, this was the perfect opportunity for William.
"Do you want to know how I went from being a here to a wizard?" asked William in an innocent tone and with a surprised expression.
"I'm just curious."
"I see... well it makes sense that the warden would want to know the information" William stroked his chin "I'd like to help him, I'd really like to tell him, but grandfather told me I had to keep it a secret because it was important information."
"What?" the expression on Argus' face had changed instantly "so you're saying there's a cure for squibs?!"
"I didn't say that!"
"But you said it was your grandfather's secret."
"Ah... that, but I can't tell you warden, if I get found out then I could be in trouble, besides I gain nothing from this."
Argus clenched his fists tightly, he really was upset, he had finally discovered the cure for his condition and yet he couldn't get it, what was worse was that a child knew the cure.
William on the other hand stared at the orderly who was shaking uncontrollably like a starving child looking for bread to keep on living or maybe like a drug addict looking for that one thing that would calm him down, he was not one to enjoy people's suffering but it was necessary at this moment.
"We could make a deal though."
It was a single sentence but Argus who was bent over looking at the ground opened his eyes out of nowhere when he heard the voice of the boy in front of him.
"A deal?" asked Flich
"Yes, we can both make a mutually agreed deal and we can get a solution for this problem" William had a smile on his face and helped Flich stand up once again.
Flich remembered William's fame, not only did he help last year with the problem with the philosopher's stone, he was also praised by the professors and was named a hero when he stopped Fenrir Greyback's attack in South America, it was impossible that such a kind hearted person would leave him there suffering when he had the solution in his hands, so a deal with this boy maybe couldn't turn out so bad.
"Would you really help me?" asked the old orderly.
"Sure, I just need a little time to brew the potion, gathering the ingredients is a bit of a hassle" William scratched his head, then with a smile "but sure, I'd like the warden to help me during my time at Hogwarts"
"help you?" asked Flich "of course I could help you, from now on you won't have any problems at Hogwarts"
"Perfect, I'll make sure to get the solution to your problem before the end of this year, you just have to wait a little while."
William extended his hand and Flich shook it with joy, it was also the moment he could see behind the young wizard a huge shadow that could cow any novice wizard.
