Chapter 14 : Ken Kato

After the practice session with the Neighborhood Association Team, several days have elapsed. The team is preparing for another match just around the corner, which was one reason why Ukai decided to coach Karasuno. As the last match against Aoba Johsai revealed, the first-years needed to work on their receives, which they have been diligently practicing. The team is determined to improve their weak points and win the upcoming match.

The upcoming practice match against Nekoma in Tokyo has the third-year players feeling energized and motivated. They are determined to demonstrate their skills and dispel any doubts that they are 'Wingless Crows'.

"Nishinoya-San, Can you tell me about Izumi? you guys seemed to know each other"

Hinata walked up to Nishinoya, who was seated on the sidelines, taking a break and drinking some water. He asked a question, and as soon as Nishinoya heard it, he put his bottle down and gazed at the ceiling, a big smile spreading across his face. Hinata's question had piqued everyone's curiosity, and they stopped whatever they were doing to listen in. Unfortunately, Izumi was not one to divulge information about himself, so no one could get any answers from him. Despite this, they remained captivated by the conversation and watched as it unfolded.

"In our first year of middle school, we faced Yokosuka Middle School in the Middle School Tournament but lost in the first round with a 2-0 set score."

"What?, But isn't your Middle school Chidoriyama famous? I never even heard about Yokosuka Middle School or their team before"

Enoshita said as he was one of those who had watched Noya play in Middle School and knew how he used to play and all that play screams only one thing about Chidoriyama Middle School and that is that they are Strong

"Yeah we were quite good and Yokosuka is a team we weren't even scared off, My seniors said that Yokosuka Middle School Volleyball team was weak and they had never even gone up to the semi-finals, But that day their team had 2 new First-years and one of them was Izumi"

"So you're saying Just because of 2 players a Mediocre team improved enough to beat a well-known Middle School?"

Daichi asked as he walked towards them from the Court as well as everyone as they were curious, Even Tsukishima got there with the excuse of drinking water

Nishinoya realizing everyone's interest in the topic decided to elaborate a little 

"He played . . . I don't know an All-Rounder position, the whole was revolving around him, even if he switched his role of Wing Spiker to Setter the team didn't get disoriented and filled those positions"

". . . Wait, why does it sound familiar"

As everyone was gazing towards Noya, Hinata chimed in while looking at Kageyama 

"Spike, Set, Serve, receive, and Block I wanna do it all myself"

Hinata said while mimicking Kageyama's look and voice which almost everyone laughed and Kageyama started pressing Hinata's head on the ground

"It wasn't like that, There was a Middle blocker as well who was like a Mountain, When our spikers went against him they couldn't score a single point against him head-on and do you know who that is?"

"Who?"

Daichi asked and looked at Noya and he knew that this information was gonna be important

"Ken Kato"

After hearing that all the Second years flinched except for Tanaka who was a little late to understand but did after some seconds

". . .So that Delinquent is from Yokosuba?"

Enoshita asked as soon as Tanaka understood who Noya was talking about, He was annoyed to know that

"Yes"

"Noya, If you knew then why did you never mention this to us? If he is as good as you say then he would've made an addition to the team"

Sugawara said to Noya which made all 2nd and 3rd years switch their eyes to him in surprise

"Suga, do you not know who Ken Kato is?"

"C'mon, We handled Tanaka's Rebellious nature, We can handle a more 2nd Year"

Tanaka wanted to argue with Suga but was surprised by Suga

"Suga-San, Don't you know the incident which happened last year?"

"Hey, Those were just claims but nothing is proved"

Everyone Second & Third Year Students didn't have proof either but they knew it was all true

"Suga, You weren't at the scene but we did witness it to some extent and he was the one who hit all those Third-Years who have Graduated"

Daichi while fixing his glance towards Sugawara said to him, All First-Years were listening quietly as this talk was about a guy who was a good Middle Blocker but a Deliquent who beat up Third-Year Students while his First-Year

"I don't remember him coming to join the Volleyball Club in his first year, He used to play so why not anymore?"

Suga looked at Noya to know more details, Noya could tell that Suga wasn't asking out of pure curiosity, He wanted to make the team strong and was looking for a way to get promising players into the team

"He played in the next tournament for a while but suddenly also stopped showing up in the tournaments"

Noya told Suga, Which got him a little sad as he saw that as a chance to get a Potential player on the team

Hinata wanted to talk to Ken and convince him to join but didn't say anything, After all, everyone was talking about an incident where he beat up his Third-Years in his first year, He's gotta be a scary dude

"Wait but then why is he a 2nd year, He is my age"

Kageyama said as he remembered who they were talking about

"He was like a Nightmare for any Spiker and Setter, I only played against Yokosuba for a half set since I was a First-Year but they benched me because I couldn't do anything to shake him off"

Kageyama said which made almost everyone shiver except for Noya who wasn't surprised by those words

"Just so you know, Izumi and I are the same age, I asked him yesterday and he said that he had to take a year off for personal reasons, That might also be the reason why he stopped playing in middle school"

"Wait so he's the same age as Kiyoko!!!"

At that Tanaka screamed, According to him Age, Maturity and Experience were the only advantages he had against Izumi, But now he was down to 2 steps ahead only (A/N: According to HIM)

Everyone only stared at him, Including Kiyoko with a gaze which was screaming Weirdo

Outside of the Court

"So . . Do you wanna talk about 'that'? "

". . . Can we not? I would prefer if we don't at least for now"

"Alright, how's it feeling to play volleyball after almost 2 years right?"

Ukai said as he tried to make the mood light for him, After all he has been through he doesn't want him to feel down again

"Don't worry about me, I'm completely fine"

Izumi understood the meaning behind that question and told him the real answer

"Then shall we start practice"

Ukai with a smile offered to get back in the Gymnasium 

"Sure"

With a smile, Izumi and Ukai left towards the Gymnasium

My Exams are on hold now because of election and I have some time so I'm gonna drop some chapter before I get into studying again
