Chapter 40: The Decision

Gabriel wakes up to hear his doorbell ringing.

Elise: Gabriel, can you go grab that for me?

He gets out of bed still half asleep to answer to door. At the door is Jeanne.

Jeanne: Surprise.

He quickly tries to fix himself up, only messing himself up more.

Jeanne: I'll give you a couple minutes to freshen up.

Elise: Is that Jeanne? Tell her to come inside I'll make her some food.

Gabriel goes back into his bathroom to shower, brush his teeth, and changes into his regular clothes. He walk into the kitchen to see his mom, Jeanne, and a B.0.T. out of sight from those two staring them down. It begins charging up a beam and Gabriel quickly has to shoot a tendril out of his hand to grab the B.0.T.'s arm to prevent it from disintegrating the two women. He does so, putting a hole through one of the walls from the beam. He shoots out another tendril to grab his mom and Jeanne.

Elise: Gabriel, what's going on?!

Gabriel: I can't explain right now, you have to get to safety first.

The three of them run out of the house only to be presented with a horrible sight. The once beautiful, vibrant city of Marseille has been turned to dust and rubble.

Gabriel: C'mon, I think I find somewhere you guys can hide-

GR33N: Not so fast.

Descending from above is the one who caused all of this, GR33N.

GR33N: You don't get to simply live a normal life after all the trouble you caused me. B.0.T.s, grab him and those two.

Out of the ground comes six B.0.T.s, two of them grabbing Gabriel, Elise, and Jeanne each.

GR33N: Since I've already killed Ali and the others, you're the last one left. I'll make sure to watch you suffer before killing you.

She charges up two beams on her hands and shoots them through Elise and Jeanne, put a hole in both of their chest.

Gabriel: No!

Pertruding from his back, his tendril grab the B.0.T.s and crushed them. He holds the two of them and tries to patch then up with pieces of his soul.

Gabriel: You'll be fine, I swear you both will be fine. I won't let you die. Please don't die.

Elise: Gabriel, mon coeur. I don't know what's happening, but I don't think I'm going to make it. I don't want our final moments to be filled with sadness. Just remember, your mother loves you.

Gabriel: Stop saying that! Please!

Jeanne: I didn't get to give you the surprise yet. Here, it's a heart necklace with our initials. I have the other half around my neck right now. Even though we haven't known each other for long, you've really made my life that much better.

Gabriel: Please, I'm going to make sure we're all getting out of this alive. Mom? Jeanne? Please keep talking, you guys are going to live!

But their body's have gone cold.

GR33N: That was fun to watch. Now I get to kill you myself! This is what happens when you defy the founder.

Gabriel wakes up from the vision and collapses on the floor crying.

Kira: My god, Ali what did you show him?

Ali: Just the future.

Gabriel: I don't want that future. I'll do anything to change it. I'll kill GR33N myself alone if I have to.

Ali: So I assume that you are going to stay with us.

Gabriel gets up from off the floor and wipes the tears from his face. Despite the vision not actually happening, he still has the necklace Jeanne gave him. He puts it around his neck to remember her.

Gabriel: Yeah, that vision gave me something to fight for. A future where I can live happily with my mom and with my friends.

Ali: Everyone has something to motivate them. Glad to see you now finally have one for yourself.
