Chapter one: The start of it all

The water was loud. The rushing clear liquid streamed down from a cliff that reached the clouds. The water ended in a large pool of equally clear water that was home to fish, algae and other wildlife. Around the body of water were lush green bushes and trees. The trees made the area look dense and dark, the sunlight only shining on the tops of the trees. Fungi grew around the visible roots of the trees and the tree themselves looked to be a darker version of oak. The trees were darker and so was the bark, the grass looked like tar. If you had stepped in it you could have even gotten stuck.

Two figures, fully clothed in black with blue outlines rose from the water. Their features were similar, only difference being their hair colour and the side that their swept away from. Both figures also had a distinctive blue streak of hair that grew from the middle of their head only to be swept to the side of their faces. Their features were already peculiar without the blue streak in their hair. They had pointed ears and sharp canines capable of sinking into even the toughest of flesh. Their physique was lean and well built. Under their clothes were warriors, ready for battle even though their skin was porcelain white, they were very toned. Every step they took, their muscles would contract and retract but under their clothes, you wouldn't be able to tell.

"Are you happy Ver? Look what you got us into." The raven black haired male cursed under his breath, shooting the white haired male a death glare, his eyes were a deep shade of blue that looked as though you were staring into a deep blue abyss. He grit his teeth, barring his sharp teeth at the other male.

He had a long black coat over his back, although now completely drenched in water. It reached his foot and hovered above the ground. Around the collars of the coat were dark black feathers, underneath the coat, he wore a blue shirt that had been tied with a black tie around his neck, chain designs on the tie itself. He had several magazines filled with bullets that more or less belonged to a gun the was strapped to his left hip. He had a sword holder on the right side, a sleek black handle protruding out of the coat.

"What's the harm little Devi? We came out alive didn't we?" Ver laughed, slinging his arm around the other males shoulders. His  hair was white with the same blue streak. He had the same pointed ears, sharp canines and the same blue eyes.

Ver had a large black jacket over his shoulders, it was black with blue stitches around the hem. He wore a black vest that was being held together by one black button. A blue and white scarf poked out from underneath the vest and around his waist hung many throwing knives from the sides. They were wickedly sharp and had a blue grip to them.

"What's the harm?" There was a tone of seriousness in Devi's voice, he still had his teeth grit together. "You stupidly, provoked a forest dragon by calling it tree gecko!" He shouted at Ver who smiled sheepishly back. "And on top of that, you called it's hatchlings green noodles! If you can't shut your damn mouth for one second I'll... I'll-" Devi caught himself and was slowly calming down. He took deep breaths, slow inhales and exhales.

"Look, I'm sorry okay? I couldn't help myself." Ver gave Devi an apologetic pat on the back before quickly pulling his hand back and wiping it on his pants. "It's not like we had a better idea, we needed that earth grimoire." Ver said, his arms folding together.

"You didn't give me enough time to think, that's all..." Devi sighed as he took off his tail coat. He was lucky that water hadn't seeped through his weapons. But just to make sure, Devi checked both his gun and saber. Lucky for him, they were both in working condition, droplets of water were on the barrel of the gun and the sheath of the saber but other than that the weapons were in battle ready conditions.

Ver started to walk again. He was a few steps in front of Devi even though their pace was the same. They seemed to be looking for something, or someone. They walked through the dense and dark forest, their posture showing that they were tense.

"Let's review our plan once more." Ver broke the silence. "Our target is the witch of this forest who holds an exceptionally powerful item..." Ver jogged beside Devi and placed his hand on the other males shoulder, signalling that they should stop.

"We're after her grimoire. She can manipulate nature at will and heal things in simple terms." Devi continued as his eyes flicked up to look at Ver. Ver always had a grin, full of mischief and confidence. His eyelashes were long and his eyes were mesmerising. Ver had always been a social butterfly, something Devi was not. He got along with almost anyone and could sweet-talk them to bed if he wanted to. Which he had; males and females, faeries, were-animals, anything that could feel. He was carefree and confident, maybe a little bit too much. But then again, Ver never failed in anything he did. In Devi's eyes, Ver was perfect but he would never say that to his face. Devi couldn't even muster up the courage to say I love you to him. He felt ashamed by it. To have such a great brother while he himself was a complete mess. A failure.

"But... What's troublesome is that her familiar is a great dragon that guards this forest. The one you called a lizard."

"Gecko."

Devi gave Ver a glare before continuing on. "A normal dragon is powerful enough but a great dragon of that calibre is going to be life threatening. We should head back into town and stock up." David suggested and went on to check his arsenal. It was full. He had his saber, his gun and ammo but they might not even scratch the dragon.

"That's a great idea... If the dragon hadn't found us already..." Ver was staring straight ahead as a ginormous green dragon came charging at them. The ground shook with each step the dragon took and it's massive wings cut down every tree in its path. It's scales were different hues of green whole its whole underbelly was a light shade of green. It had massive horns protruding from its sides and were white in colour. It had six horns in total and black coloured eyes. Its roar was sky splitting, Ver and Devi had to cover their ears bit even then the roar still sounded as though it was from a speaker. Its cry vibrated throughout the forest and the two males shivered, feeling the cry in their bones.

The dragon charged at an alarming rate and was soon just a few metres away from the two. Instinctively, the two males jumped in different directions and took position on tree branches. Luckily for them, the trees grew taller then the dragon itself but with what they had seen just now, the dragon could easily strike the trees down. The two males took position, Devi had his gun in one hand and his saber in the other. Ver had knives in both his hands and was crouched on the tree branch. The both made eye contact, Ver smiled at Devi who just gave back a nod.

And then they jumped.
