Bloody Victory

A figure dashed in front of Jacob, just in time as the fire was mere inches away from Jacob.

Ella had shielded Jacob from the attack, feeling the fire envelop her shield and burn her body. In a rage, she raised her mace and slammed it down on the soldier, ending his life.

She turned to Jacob, burned and injured from previous fights.

"You alright?" She asked, Jacob was stuck in place for a moment, only able to nod in response.

"Keep fighting and keep yourself safe," She hastily returned to the battle, getting closer to breaking the line of traitors and getting in.

Jacob continued cutting down the remaining soldiers, while Rin and Clara fired at the swarm of drones.

'How many soldiers does City G even have!?' Jacob continued cutting down the last of the traitors, confused and angered by the number of them.

'All in a random camp outside a city!' Jacob slashed ferociously, taking down the last traitor line. Drones from above fell from Clara and Rin's shots while the defenders inside were kept busy by Zeph's constant attacks, not giving a moment of rest until the rest of the team could get inside.

—-

"Get through the entrance, now!" Clara yelled at the rest of the team. The last traitor fell to the ground by Jacob's hands, leaving the entrance open for them to enter.

Above, the drones quickly noticed this, and more flew from the inside, charging at them with guns and saws ready. A mix of the weaker drones and new more armored ones headed straight for them, too much for the team to handle.

"There is no way to fight all of them at once!" Ella yelled, stepping back.

"We can, we will focus on the gunner drones, you two fight the saws!" Clara responded fast with a new plan.

Through the gaps of the swarm, Jacob could see Zephj leap down, finally facing the soldiers down below.

A few of them rushed to take down Ella and Jacob, only adding to their problem now. It was either they die here or somehow survive.

'Either I run and die, or I fight and maybe not die.' He clenched his scythe, the fear he felt was burned away by a newly found anger, remembering why he took on this deal, to fight City G and avenge his family, to make sure he can have a brighter future for himself.

"This is bad, we pushed our luck too far this time," Ella whimpered, stepping back again. Jacob walked forward, activating a new shield and holding his scythe.

"We can beat them, running away will only get us killed, they are on their own here, we can win this," Jacob spoke, despite feeling the pain of bullets and cuts from the battle earlier, he felt weaker but stood strong.

Rin was running low on energy, trying to conserve it as much as possible, only healing the worst wounds the two had.

Clara activated her system, trying to analyze what they could do next while firing her bow at the drones.

Ella took a deep breath, regaining her composure. She walked near Jacob, holding up her mace and shield.

"Allies above self" She muttered below her breath.

—-

The first row of drones immediately blew up in balls of fire from Jacob's swing, the rest followed as the two began their attack.

Bullets and saws both collided against their shields, but they fought back, destroying more and more, getting through into the camp itself.

The number of drones started to go down, and Jacob spotted some City G soldiers behind the swarm. Suddenly, they opened fire, breaking his shield faster than the drones.

Jacob snapped his fingers, quickly glancing at the energy he had left.

[Energy: 40/100]

'Only two more shield summons, damn. Those guys need to go, and fast," In a burst of energy, Jacob rushed through the swarm of drones, cutting any in front of him without a second thought.

The swarm split into two, with one part fighting the team and the other chasing Jacob. A hail of bullets struck his shield. After just a few seconds, the shield shattered, letting a few bullets hit Jacob's body before he could activate another.

He knelt, coughing from the pain, shielding himself from the soldiers and drones alike.

'I cannot stop here!' Jacob stood back up and ran towards the City G soldiers, destroying any approaching drone in the process.

—-

Out of the cloud of drones, the soldiers were just in front of him.

'Right in front of me, this is it!' With a single slash, multiple soldiers were cut down, heavily injured but unable to fight. The rest moved away, firing at Jacob and surrounding him.

He ran towards each one, hoping he could outrun the bullets and take down the soldiers quickly before dying or falling from the pain in each step he took.

Along the way, more drones tried to help the soldiers but were destroyed once they got too close.

Each second, a new injury appeared on Jacob's body, his body was torn up and covered in different wounds. But he continued fighting, enduring the pain.

Encumbered by more shots to his body, he limped as fast as he could to the last person, and with an anger-fueled swing, cut the man clean in half. Jacob was shocked for a moment by the sight but quickly turned to focus on the last of the drones.

'The armored ones remain' Jacob looked at the small swarm, attacking Ella and the other three.

—--

Each drone took more than a single hit to fall, making Jacob more irritated and mad than before. The drones fell as the four managed to take them down quickly, but not before Ella and Jacob received more wounds from the well-armed and armored drones.

Clara let out a sigh, as behind them, Zeph had taken out the remaining soldiers inside the camp, ending the battle.

"Unfortunately we did not break through the entrance, but the bigger objective has been completed. Rin, heal them so we can start checking the information here.

"Miss Clara," Rin replied in a nervous tone.

"I ran out of energy," At that moment, fear hit the two, realizing that their wounds may not be healed. But in his worry, Jacob realized that he still had his energy can. And with Rin no longer having one, Jacob quickly handed it to him.

"Here, now heal our wounds," Jacob handed the can to Rin, but the wounds proved to b e too much for the two as Rin fell, unconscious.

Curiously, Jacob remained standing, he felt the pain and wanted to simply lie down and pass out, but his body refused to simply go down like Ella. Clara looked at him with confusion, unsure as well as how he was still standing, having much more injuries than Ella.

But before she could say anything, or for Jacob to think, he passed out as well.
