Unknown POV

I was coming from the parking lot to the company building when my phone rung in my pocket, I reached my hand inside my jacket breast pocket and fished it out.

"Hello?" My tone mirrored my confusion with the call when I saw the caller ID on the screen before I accepted it.

"You heard?" She said.

"Heard what?" I asked, not understanding what she meant.

"The Monarchs just announced themselves to the whole underworld."

"Impossible! Why would people whom one of their main rules to the underworld was to never try to find out who they were, people who preferred staying in the darkness, suddenly decide to go public?" I questioned.

"Apparently they grew tired of it." I can she her shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly.

"Are you sure they're not imposters?" I asked.

"They are not, they're one of the families we suspected years ago."

"But you said you got rid of all of them." I reminded.

"It happened to be the only offspring we left of all of those families we murdered." She said.

"Don't tell me it's her?" I asked.

"Yes, A.L was the next in line for the throne of the Monarchs. She's the Monarchs and now everybody knows." She said frustrated.

"Of all people, why A.L! If it's anybody else we could easily discredit them, but she's fucking A.L she doesn't need the title of the Monarchs to be fearful. She's gained the reputation herself long ago!" I was both angry and frustrated. The one person I was trying my whole life to beat just got wings, as if she needs them!

"The problem is if she finds out who we are and what we did to her mother, treason will be the least of our concerns." She said.

"But she doesn't remember anything, remember?" I said.

"You're such a fool! How do you think she ascended the throne of the Monarchs if she doesn't remember anything!" She snapped at me.

"But why did she suddenly decide to reveal the Monarchs identity?" I asked, ignoring her condescending tone.

I went out out the elevator when I reached my floor and headed to my office.

"That's what we need to find out, but we have to do it with utmost secrecy so that our identities are not revealed." She said.

"I don't care what she knows or what she's planning, I'll show her why she should've stayed hidden in the darkness. She's no match to me and I'll prove it to her." I said as I opened my office's door.

"Can you live up to that promise?" A voice from the far corner of my office came, a voice so familiar that my hand shook slightly with fear of the coldly dark tone.

"What are you doing, brother? Come have a seat." She said, her earlier tone changed into her usual one.

I hung up the phone and managed to smile a bit despite my shocked and scared state. She sure as hell surprised me with her presence here. "Ems, what are you doing here?" I asked.

She sneered. "Oh, you want to continue the act?" She said. "Fine by me, why don't you take a seat first." She ushered with her hand to the couch apposite from her.

My blood boiled. How dare she come to my company and order me! "This is my company if I must remind you, if anyone should be ushered here is you." I dropped the act.

"That was fast." She chuckled. "I thought you wanted to keep the façade up for a while longer." She added in the same tone.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, ignoring her statement.

"Your company you say? Why don't you redial your mother and ask her if this company is really yours? Or maybe she doesn't know yet." She chuckled.

"W- what do you mean?" I asked.

"This is not my father's company, it's one of my mother's. One you didn't know about, so you see father couldn't give it to you even if he wanted." She said.

"No way! Mom said dad appointed me his heir long before they were even married!" I said, not believing her.

"Both you and your mother are dumb if you actually believed that charade, don't tell me you haven't thought weird of it?" She asked mockingly.

"Of what?" I asked.

"My perfect family and loving parents suddenly turn into sworn enemies overnight, and my father who loved my mother like no other without even giving himself to grieve his broken heart, goes to your mother that easily. Or the fact that he didn't blink when my mother died, or how he discarded us, his real blood and flesh only to adopt you and announce you as his heir." She explained. "Were you really that greedy that you couldn't interpret any of that, or were you simply dense?" She asked haughtily.

"You mean-"

"Your little secret was way long revealed, only you didn't know." She smirked, cutting me off.

"So father fooled us, I was never a heir, huh?" I asked coldly. My mind was conjuring dozens of scenarios in which I kill the sneaky old man.

"Don't blame him, he had nothing to give you. All of his assets were given to his family by the Monarchs decades ago when your mother's family along with some other families were executed. The wealth even though was his family, they were never to use it to harm the Monarchs the moment they do or intend on doing such thing, it's snatched from them. My father does have his own companies but both he and mom knew couldn't use them in the plan so mom gave up one of her companies, the one she built before she knew of her lineage for your mother to take the bait." She revealed. "So you see, this was all mine from the very beginning. You were nothing but a mere keeper, a dog my dad put here to guard my position until I'm ready to claim it." She taunted.

"You and your father will have to be punished." I said calmly as I dialled a number.

She was leaning on the side of the couch watching me, something about her gaze didn't set well with me. I'm sure she knew exactly what I was talking about, she showed no signs of fear or alarm.

"Kill her." I ordered when one of my men answered the phone.

"W- we don't have her, sir." He stuttered.

"What do you mean you don't have her! You told me last night that she arrived!" I snapped.

"I only saw the van that was supposed to drop her closing in on us, so I assumed she was inside. However when it stopped we were attacked by a bunch of men that emerged from it. I barely survived, I had to walk back to the city a d I only just arrived and was about to call you, I'm sorry, sir." He explained.

"You really are dumb." Emma chuckled. "Dumbness and greed are sure a lethal combination." She added mocking me. "Do you honestly think I would send my daughter to my enemy to safeguard her?" She questioned rhetorically, her laughter never ceasing.

"How did you know I was the enemy?" I asked dumbly.

"Have you been listening to anything I said!" She exclaimed frustrated. "Everybody knew your family was the enemy since before my mother died!"

"But you called me!" I argued.

"That's where you should've suspected something's wrong, dumbass. Why the hell would I call you of all people to safeguard my daughter, why did I skip my most closed people and jumped to the brother I didn't speak to in over six years?" She said.

I just gaped at her.

"You sure are a disappointment to the name you're bearing, the Sampsons are not known for being dumb." She tsked.

"W- what do you want with me?" I cursed myself for stuttering at the beginning.

"What happened to the tough exterior you supported minutes ago? What about what you promised your mom you'd do to me on the phone before you entered the office?" She reminded mockingly.

"What are you planning to do to me?" I tried to be firm and steady this time but failed miserably, even though I didn't stutter this time, my tone gave out how scared I was.

"I'll play a hide and seek game with your family using you, trust me you'll enjoy it." Her smirk told me otherwise. "Just like how your family played with my mom while poisoning her." She added in the same tone and expression.

I was definitely not going to like this game of hers.
