Chapter 10 | The Scummy Employee

Steven stands Infront of a fairly medium-sized store. The sign on top of the roof reads "The Hud Shop!" Steven of course already could tell this store belonged to Huddy judging by the title. Steven walks towards the entrance opening the door. "Ding-ding-ding!" The bell rings as Steven looks around the interior. Everything is cluttered with signs advertising discounts and sales. Huddy was in a rush to move all of her items and decorations inside that she did not properly decorate without it all looking like a mess.

The walls were made from wood oak and orange illuminated lanterns hung from the ceiling. The interior didn't feel too tight nor too spacious, everything was just right. Huddy bends down opening boxes and piling goods on the floor not noticing Steven.

"Uh, yo Huddy." Steven greets Huddy observing what she's doing.

"Ah-Ah Steven!" Huddy says startled by the sudden voice. "I didn't know you were there."

"Didn't you hear the bell ring when I stepped inside?" Steven questions Huddy.

"No, I was too distracted busy sorting all of these supplies." She replies. "So, what brings Ya here?"

"I'm looking for employment," Steven answered. "I'm trying to"

"It better not have anything to do with those factions." Huddy cuts Steven off.

"Haha!" Steven awkwardly laughs. "N-No, I'm just trying to- erm, earn some cash!" Steven lies.

"Oh, okay great, then your now an employee," Huddy said not asking any further questions. "Go ahead and start unpacking stuff."

"Wait really?" Steven questioned Huddy's sudden promotion. "Aren't you going to like, ask me anything else?"

"No," Huddy said. "I just need help with unpacking."

"Uhm okay." Steven said in confusion. "I'll begin right now." He then added going towards a pile of boxes. The two spent the whole afternoon sorting out items and decorating the shop. By the end, everything was tidy like a proper shop.

"Great, we did it," Huddy said wiping the sweat off her forehead. "Now we can open up the shop tomorrow to let customers in."

"Yeah," Steven said. "When do I start working tomorrow?" He asked.

"Uh, I'll be out of the shop at twelve doing some paperwork," Huddy stated. "So maybe you can work as a cashier and unpack incoming items once I leave." She answered.

"Okay, great," Steven said. "I'll come by tomorrow."

And it was so. The next day Steven arrived and dressed up on the yellow Huddy employee teacher and a yellow cap. He stood Infront of the cash register waiting for customers to arrive.

"Ding-ding-ding!" The front door played its bell as a man walked in. He gazed around the shop and then walked to stand Infront of the register. Although, his appearance was very odd. He had a white band-aid wrapped around his head covering his right eye. He had fairly medium-sized hair that stretched down to his ears. And wearing a yellow tie with a black long-sleeved shirt. And was wrapped around a white coat hanging by his shoulders with his sleeves not tucked in. He looked like a rich businessman, but he didn't look too old, he seemed like a teenager around Steven's age.

Steven didn't think anything of it, he just thought he was some rich kid with a strange fashion sense. He could only give service to the customer and not ask any questions.

"Welcome, how may I help you?" Steven asked.

"I'm looking for the best type of wood." The strange customer said.

Steven then remembered that the rich packages of wood were in the back and hadn't been unpacked. He only had some hardwood in stock that hadn't been bought. And then he realized he could exploit the customer and sell it for a higher price for more profit. Steven was already making schemes in his mind.

"Ah yes, follow me and I'll guide you to the richest wood you'll ever find," Steven said signaling the customer to follow. "Here we are, the richest wood you'll ever lay your eyes upon on." Steven exaggerated.

"Oh really?" The Customer said staring at the pile of hardwood. "All I see is hardwood."

"Ah- well this hardwood was cut from the finest trees outside the district," Steven lied. "Found on top of the biggest hardest mountains to climb."

"Oh, great." The Customer said taking Stevens's lies. "How much for fifty slabs."

Steven could only laugh in his mind at how fooled this Customer was.

"Five hundred dollars," Steven said. The wood originally cost only two hundred and fifty dollars for fifty slabs.

"Okay, great." The Customer said taking his wallet out. "I have a wagon outside the shop right now, so I'll take the wood right now."

The Customer then handed Steven five-hundred-dollar bills and walked toward the pile of wood pulling them outside the shop. Steven became scummy and took two hundred and fifty dollars for himself.

The Customer finally took the remaining slabs of wood before thanking Steven for his assistance. Steven could only smile but in his mind, he was still laughing from success.

"Rich kids are dumb." Steven laughed to himself in his mind.

For the rest of the day. Steven scammed other Customers and took the rest of the money that wasn't the original cost so Huddy wouldn't notice. By the end of his shift, he came out of the shop with two thousand dollars worth of money. He truly felt rich and went back home.

Huddy walked inside the empty shop seeing the purchase Steven handled. Of course, she didn't know Steven scammed all of the customers because he only took the extra money, he scammed them for.

"All right, time to start closing the shop," Huddy noted herself. "Steven did well today."

"Ding-ding-ding!" The bell of the door rang as a person walked in. It was the guy Steven scammed earlier returning to the shop. He wasn't angry or didn't seem to know Steven scammed him. Instead, he asked Huddy a question.

"Are you offering employment?" The guy asked.

"Yes," Huddy said. "I am."

"Great." He smiled.
