CHAPTER 7

Nolan quickly carried Alina on his shoulders then rushed down to the female resting room.

Everyone watched him do that and his Junior doctors ran over to help him.

"I can handle this but get me some chocolates. Here's my card" Nolan said anxiously with Alina on his shoulders as he slide out his ATM card from his pocket then handed it to the doctor.

He stared at Alina and her eyes were almost closed already. He rushed into the room and placed her on the down bunk.

"Alina! Alina! Can you hear me?" Nolan asked as he slapped her cheeks lightly.

But Alina blinked her eyes slowly.

Nolan looked at Alina with her mask on and he ruffled his hair frustratedly as he thought on how to take the mask off.

She's suffering from suffocation because she has the mask on. Getting some air without it on, will help her. Nolan said in his head and leaned forward to remove her mask but Alina gathered her strength and held his hand.

She breathed heavily, she gasped for air.

"Alina, what are you doing? I need to get the mask off so you get some air. Do you know how critical this could be for you?" Nolan uttered and tears kept on rolling down Alina's eyes.

"What are you so scared of? Is it more important than your life itself? Alina you need to put yourself together. I'm a doctor and it's my duty to safe lives so allow me fulfill my duties. I get it that you're scared of me seeing your face but I promise I won't say a word about it so can I?" Nolan asked slowly and Alina passed out before she even knew it.

"Alina! Alina! You can't pass out. Open your eyes!" Nolan yelled.

"I'm sorry Alina but I have to take this off" Nolan said and slowly took off Alina's mask.

The light ray from the window shone on Alina's face and Nolan's heart skipped a beat.

His hands slowly moved to her face.

"How can you be this beautiful and still try to hide it so much?" Nolan mumbled obviously mesmerized by Alina's charms.

He adjusted her properly on the bed then leaned forward to give her a mouth to mouth respiration.

Nolan placed his hands on Alina's lips as he held it with his hands. He leaned closer and his lips touched Alina's.

He blew in some air into her mouth, he did it continuously till Alina gained consciousness and he quickly wore her back her mask then moved away from her.

"What happened to me, professor?" Alina asked slowly as she tried to sit up.

The thought of kissing Alina through the resuscitation process flashed through Nolan's mind and he suddenly became mute.

"Professor," Alina called out and Nolan stood up from the bed.

"Why's it so hot in here?" Nolan uttered wiping off the sweat on his forehead.

"I was only trying to talk things out with you so why did you pass out like that. You're not only troublesome but fragile as well. I also don't like attacking the weak so don't force me and take proper care of yourself. You should look after yourself after all you're a lady" Nolan nagged and Alina looked at him completely confused.

"Professor, I don't understand what you're trying to say" Alina said and Nolan exhaled deeply.

A doctor knocked at the door before coming in.

"Professor, here's the chocolates you requested for and here's your card as well" The doctor said handing the card to Nolan and Nolan pointed his finger at Alina.

"Give it to her, she might need it" Nolan said coldly then walked out of the room.

The doctor gave Alina the shopping little bag he had.

"Thank you" Alina said politely and he left.

What's going on here? Why's he suddenly being nice to me and I never asked for a chocolate. What's this mood? Something feels off. Did something serious happen here? Alina questioned in her head.

She opened the bag and a smile appeared on her lips.

"They happen to be all my favourites. I'm hoping this chocolates doesn't choke me since it's coming from that jerk" Alina said with a silly smile.

Nolan walked far away from the resting room and he exhaled deeply.

"What was that?" Nolan gasped feeling so embarrassed.

I sounded like a fool. I kept on spouting rubbish. Everything I said there made no sense. How do I face Alina after such act? It's just a mouth to mouth respiration and I do that all time, why did it suddenly became a big deal after doing it on Alina? I was only anxious and that's why, it's nothing more than that. Nolan screamed in his head and his phone started ringing.

"Yes uncle" Nolan said after taking the call.

"I dropped by at the office today. How about you come have coffee with me?" The chief director requested and Nolan nodded before answering.

"I was thinking of dropping by your office before clearing up my schedule for the day. I will be right there" Nolan said and hung up.

He walked the elevator and the elevator bell danged. People came out of it and Nolan went in.

He got to the office and went in.

"Uncle, you're not feeling well?" Nolan asked before taking his seat.

"I'm perfectly well. I only called you to discuss something with you"

"If it's about the decision of the board then I'm sorry I'm not going to change my mind" Nolan said coldly.

"Do you want to become the director so badly?" The chief director asked and Nolan looked at him.

"I've got all the rights to want that. I'm more than qualified to be the director and again it's high time I start pursuing my goal of taking Margolis to the next level. I'm pretty sure you agree with me uncle"

"The board members agreed to it easily because they've got something under their sleeves. They might use this opportunity to finish you up once and for all. You need to set your goals straight Nolan"

"I'm doing exactly that and that's why I've got you uncle. You're the president of this hospital and everyone must have to obey your command. It's not like I'm using the back door process to get what I want. Uncle, you've got to support me on this, you wouldn't want your legacy to land on the hands of outsiders when you've got me" Nolan said seriously.

"Are you confident you will win the final vote?"

"I'm confident because I'm working towards that. Let's support each other, after all what's family for" Nolan said with a cold smile.

"Well that's that for that. Now let's talk about you. When do you plan on visiting your mother? And I saw what you did the other day at the emergency ward. Nolan you should have it easy on nurse Alina, go easy on the poor girl. She's only here to help us and make a living for herself so what's wrong with that. Lately, all her patients are being discharged earlier than the usual. They keep recovering faster"

"Isn't that supposed to be the record our hospital should keep? Why are you making it sound like she's performing some sort of miracles here at the hospital. Uncle, don't make it sound so serious. She's only doing her job as a nurse by taking care of her patients and I'm not been hard on her, I'm only showing her the right path as her senior. I got those instructions from you and I'm following them" Nolan said sarcastically and his uncle shook his head.

"Talking things out with you really stresses me out because you find it hard succumbing to my decisions or words. Have it your way but pay your mum a visit one of this days" He reminded and Nolan stared at a space.

"Mum will have to wait some more. I don't wish to lose my strength after seeing her because right now, I need all the energy I can build up. Help her understand please" Nolan said calmly.

After the long conversation between Nolan and the chief director, he went back to the nurses table.

He looked around for a while, hoping to bump into Alina but she wasn't showing up so he walked up to one of the nurses.

"I can't find nurse Alina attending to her patients, where's she?" Nolan asked curiously.

"Nurse Alina left for the home service of Mrs Smith, she won't be coming back till later in the day" The nurse informed and Nolan nodded then walked away.

Why did I even ask of her in the first place? It suddenly feels so empty without her causing trouble around. Well, I guess I'm finally getting my peace of mind. Nolan said in his head with a smile.

Later that day....

It's been hours already. Nolan came out of the operation room after performing rib fracture surgery on a patient. He checked his wristwatch and he peeped at the nurses table without anyone's notice.

How come she's not yet back? Nolan questioned in his head.

"What sorts of home service is she rendering to Mrs Smith that's taking hours? Have she forgotten about her patients here at the hospital or what?" Nolan uttered out with a serious look on his face.

"Professor, is anything the matter?" A doctor asked and Nolan glared at him.

"Inform the nurses. Whenever nurse Alina gets back, she should head straight to my office. She can't keep doing what she sees fit" Nolan said seriously then walked away.

Aria was done with her practice for the day at the studio. She sat at a bench in the lobby there at the studio but on call with Alina.

"Is that so? I told you, he was going to look for other ways to see your face" Aria teased.

"I couldn't see the look on his face when he saw my bare face and that really frightens me because I'm scared he might have taken a photo of me to blackmail me in the future. Professor Nolan derives joy from lashing me with words. He despises me so much that he couldn't carry me on his arms. He carried me on his shoulders like I'm some sort of piece of rag , he didn't even care if my ribs or stomach was hurting in that sort of position he carried me. He should have left me on the floor" Alina complained over the phone.

"I guess, he probably did that so others don't misunderstand his intentions. He was trying to be caring and at the same time, protecting his image. He's quite a troublemaker, I can sense that and the look he had on his face is obvious. He was probably wearing a passionate smile or love shapes in his eyes as he stared at you" Aria said smiling widely.

"You're definitely having fun with what you're doing right now" Alina whined.

"It's fun, Lina. Someone's hitting on my best friend and I happen to be here, what could be more exciting than this. It's almost weekend Lina. Are you going home today?" Aria asked curiously.

"That's if, I wasn't placed at the night duty team but I will inform you if anything changes" Alina said and she bumped into Nolan on her way heading into the hospital.

"Greetings professor" Alina said with a bow.

Nolan glared at her angrily.

"Talk of the devil" Aria teased as she laughed out so loud.

"I will call you back, Ria" Alina said and hung up.

"You spent two hours on call. Have you forgotten you've got patients to check up on at this time of the day? You had only three hours to take care of Mrs Smith but you ended up spending six hours. Do you have an explanation for that nurse Alina," Nolan fired and Alina bite her lower lips frustratedly as she thought hard on what to say to him.

"I don't wish to hear any excuses just follow me. I have to check up on a patient" Nolan said seriously.

"But professor, I need to write a report on some patients" Alina cut in slowly.

"Are you trying to go against my orders? I said stick around and that's all you need to do and your patients have been taken care of" Nolan said coldly then walked away.

Alina followed from behind.
