A momentary silence fell, when right after a few seconds, suddenly another voice resounded,
**Olivia**
"This... This..." Veronica stuttered; her body coated in cold shivers shuddered as she glared at the device wide-eyed.
Not only Veronica but everyone else went silent. They didn't expect that Felix's question will directly provide them with the answer. This was a clear one-to-one conversation with the mysterious entity.
Of course, this wasn't the first time they have obtained such evidence. There were many times when they underwent much more bizarre activities in the past. Yet, no matter how much habitual they became, this was that sort of thing that would give anyone goosebumps every time something transpires.
Veronica was thrilled to the core. It wasn't that she was completely aghast, indeed she was spooked however, this is what she sought. This was the reason why she joined this team in the first place. To feel the excitement specifically, when it came after fear. To explore the unknown.
Avidly, Mike came to Felix and let out impatiently, "Is this your name? Olivia? Are you here with us? What caused your death?"
Unfortunately, his question was overlooked by the entity. Disappointment came across his face as he shook his head before glancing at Felix,
"Felix! You ask again. Looks like they want to communicate with you."
Then, he turned to Paul, "Paul! Keep checking with the SLS device there on the railings. I'm sure you'll get something. Nick focus your thermal camera there too."
Nick and Paul both nodded and pointed their devices to the boundary of the bridge.
**Chaos**
Furthermore, another word sounded by the EVP device in the exact robotic female voice.
"Chaos? What does that mean?" Alex asked in bewilderment.
After all, what does the word 'chaos' represented here? They stared at the device with their furrowed brows, struggling to join the pieces together.
"It's trying to give us clues. So far we have got three words~ Death, Olivia, and now chaos,"' explained Mike.
Nodding their heads, Veronica thereafter voiced out her thoughts, "According to me, It's a female. The first word 'Death' means she's trying to tell us that she died here. Also, I think 'Olivia' is her name. As for the third word 'chaos'. I think she's trying to describe the crisis at that time when she died. Maybe there was chaos everywhere and that lead to her death?"
She gazed at everyone as she enunciated, expecting their acknowledgment. Her speculation did appear plausible though. It matched their evidence adequately. Apart from that, they couldn't think of any other probabilities until Celia voiced out her thoughts.
"But Sister Veronica!? What if the name 'Olivia' was the name of their killer instead? Or maybe someone dear to them? I mean, the device produces the sound in a robotic female voice no matter if it's a male voice or any other voice. So, we cannot determine that it's definitely a female right?"
"Celia is right! How can we ignore such possibilities? Great job Celia," Nick offered a thumbs-up not giving up any chance to get on closer terms with Celia.
Veronica smiled bitterly and nodded. Celia was correct though. She cannot jump to outcomes and bring out her presumptions. This might lead to an erroneous story portrayal. Not to mention that their job was to deliver the factual content.
It was 10 pm already. She sighed and sat on the boundary of the footpath. They didn't obtain any response after that. Paul too was exhausted right now as he was holding up his device for such a long period.
He sat down beside Veronica when Felix too came and sat beside him while asking playfully,
"Tired bro?"
"Ahhh! Yes! A little I guess haha~ This sure is heavy," he answered back as he patted his device.
"Bro! Can you explain to me what this device does?"
Amazed by his question Paul turned his head to his left as he gawked at Felix who appeared truly nonplussed and responded, "This is called an SLS device."
Felix nodded as Paul continued, "You can see it's like a camera and it has its own big-screen."
"Yes! So, what does it shows?" he asked while pointing his finger at the screen.
"This is the real deal, Felix. In simpler language, It maps any entities and shows a figure."
"I don't get it properly."
"Here! Look..." Paul instantly grabbed his device as he switched it on and focused the camera of the device to Alex who stood just a few steps away from them.
Felix could see a diagram of a person but it didn't have any other characteristics. It was just the outline of the figure. Like, someone just drew an outer line of the human physique with a pencil.
However, right after 2 seconds, what stunned him was a stick figure which suddenly appeared right inside the previous figure of Alex.
"This..." he muttered in amazement while staring at the screen.
"You see it now? That figure which you saw earlier was of Alex. When my device mapped her figure, it immediately recognized her as an entity and a stick-like figure appeared inside her previous figure indicating that it has been recognized. You get it now?"
"Yes! I got it, brother Paul. This device is amazing."
"Haha~ of course, it is," Paul chuckled while switching off his device.
Noticing their laughter, Alex shortly came to their side and sat right beside Felix. The whiff of her fragrance wafted across his nose as she sat. He couldn't discern what does her perfume smelled like but it was damn aromatic.
"What are guys discussing eh!?" she asked.
"Well, we were just looking at your stick figure," replied Felix.
"Huh!?" Alex who heard him went stupefied. She didn't know what to say.
Her stick figure? What was Felix talking about? Wait! Was he talking about her figure? As soon as she came to a realization she stared at his face with her wide eyes when a giggle sounded.
Veronica tee-heed when she saw how startled Alex seemed.
"This... What is going on?" lex enquired. She didn't want to be left out. Understanding, that they were having fun without telling her anything she felt pissed and wished to know what was going on? Why they giggled at her like that? Was something on her face? Why they were talking about her figure? Multiple questions filled her mind when Paul finally nudged Veronica to explain.
"Sister Alex! Brother Paul was just explaining to Felix about his SLS device. And, to explain that more practically, he pointed the device at you so that Felix could see how the device works. And, that stick figure Felix talked about earlier was your figure in the device. hehe~"
She chuckled again staring at Felix with an unusual gaze. Alex who realized what was happening instantly pinched Felix's left cheek,
"You... Getting a little too playful huh? Felix boi?"
"Ouch! Sister Alex! I just told you the truth! Nothing else... Please! You can stop now!"
Grinning, she released his cheek and peeked at his wristwatch instead, "It's 10:30 pm already. We should have our dinner I think. What do you guys say?"
Approving, they all went to Mike and the others who sat across the road on the other footpath. Hearing their suggestion, Mike too agreed, it was getting late and since they were not getting any response for now it was better to have their dinner and to take a rest before proceeding further.
They sauntered to Brian's bus again and seized their respective dinner packages. They decided to have their dinner inside the bus only.
Soon, they were now seated at their respective seats. Felix, like before was now sitting on his window seat and Celia was right beside him.
Behind him, Veronica and Alex were unwrapping their packages. Nick and Paul were opposite to their seats i.e., on the left window seats.
While, Mike, Rob, and Steve were at the front with Brian having their dinner as they chatted.
Nick gazed at Celia lovingly for a brief moment who sat on the opposite side of him, his eyes then shifting to Felix who sat beside her as his expression turned grim.
'I know how to deal with you, Felix. You don't know anything about me. I must teach you a lesson which you'll remember all of your life and I will turn you into an obedient one. You'll come to know why you should keep your distance from my Celia,' he sneered in his heart.
When Felix unwrapped his package and took the first bite of his sandwich, Celia glanced at him before asking, "Sandwiches? You like sandwiches, Felix?"
She wanted to know more about him ever since he joined their team. She knew she was rushing to get to know him more but whenever curiosity used to kick in, she just couldn't control herself. Moreover, how can she let go of this chance?
"Hmm? Yeah! I mean there weren't many veg dishes so I just chose them as per Miss Veronica's suggestion" he shrugged while saying.
"Miss Veronica?? Felix! I think I also did suggest you to drop that 'Miss' earlier right? Then, why didn't you put up with this suggestion of mine?" Veronica's lovely voice sounded from behind them.
Both Celia and Felix turned their heads back only to find Veronica smiling yet not smiling as she stared at Felix.
'Ohhh! Fuck!!!' he screamed in his heart.
How can he forget that smile? He did make a sticky note earlier about Veronica's freaking scary ominous smile.
'Then, where the heck did that sticky note went!? Fuck!' he cried out again in his heart.
"Then!? How about Sister Veronica!? How does that sound?" he asked; sweating profusely.
"Much better!"
"Phew!!!" relaxing, he looked back at Celia as they exchanged glances.
She further asked, "Why veg?"
"Because he's a vegetarian," before Felix could even utter, Veronica replied quickly.
"Ah!? I see!" Not only Celia but Alex too stared at Veronica as if she was trying to analyze her.
'I didn't know Felix boi was vegetarian. Well, it's no surprise since he's from India. I know such things about India. But, when did Veronica came to know about that? Did they had a chat in the store? Even I didn't know this about him.' Alex peered at Veronica who kept eating her sandwich.
'Huh!? She chose sandwiches too??' she got another shock, this time Alex frowned and kept reckoning about what conversation Veronica and Felix just had.
Just like Alex, Celia too lowered her head while holding her half-eaten burger, 'Sis Veronica is already that familiar with Felix...'
She whispered in her heart. She didn't know why but she felt like she just lost something. Something very important. The feeling was very faint but no doubt it was there.
Suddenly, a light flashed across her eye, as she asked, "Can... Can I have a piece!? Just for the taste!?"
She said it. She didn't know how she did that but she did it. Only she could imagine how red her face was. Her rapid heart rate which she was experiencing; her eyes filled with anticipation for what was about to come.
"Sure!" without minding anything, Felix halved his sandwich and was just about to give the other half to Celia when Nick's irritating voice interrupted him,
"Felix? Huh? Weren't you the one who told me you would never share your food with Celia no matter what?"
"huh!" his statement caught everyone by surprise. Even Felix was caught off guard.
On the other hand, Nick had a vicious smile all over his face.
