The sun rose slowly over Mondstadt, casting a golden glow over the city. The streets were quiet as the city awoke to another peaceful day. It had been several days since the group's encounter with the Abyss Herald, and though the immediate threat had passed, the sense of unease lingered in the air.
Aether stood at the edge of the city walls, watching as the sunlight bathed Mondstadt in warmth. The battles they had fought, the challenges they had faced—all of it weighed on his mind. But despite the looming danger of the Abyss Order, he couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. He had found more than just allies in Mondstadt—he had found people he cared about deeply.
As he stood lost in thought, Jean approached from behind, her footsteps soft and deliberate. She came to stand beside him, her gaze following his out over the city.
"It's a beautiful morning," Jean said quietly, her voice calm and steady.
Aether nodded. "Yeah. It feels… peaceful."
Jean smiled, a rare moment of softness crossing her usually serious features. "After everything we've been through, I think we've earned a little peace."
Aether turned to look at her, seeing the weight of leadership in her eyes but also the strength and resolve that had kept Mondstadt safe. "You've done so much for this city, Jean. I don't know how you manage to keep going."
Jean shook her head, her smile turning wistful. "I'm not doing it alone. You've been a huge help, Aether. Mondstadt wouldn't be where it is today without you."
Aether felt a warmth spread through him at her words. "I couldn't have done any of this without you. Without any of you."
There was a moment of quiet between them, the soft sound of the wind carrying their unspoken thoughts. Aether had come to admire Jean deeply—not just for her strength as a leader but for the way she cared for Mondstadt and the people around her. She carried so much on her shoulders, but she never wavered, never faltered.
Jean's gaze softened as she met Aether's eyes. "You're not just a traveler passing through, Aether. You've become part of Mondstadt. Part of us."
Aether felt his heart swell at her words. The bond between them had grown into something deeper, something that went beyond mere friendship. He could see it in the way she looked at him, the way she trusted him, and he felt the same in return.
"I'm glad I found my way here," Aether said softly, his voice filled with sincerity. "And I'm glad I found you."
Jean's cheeks flushed slightly, a rare display of emotion for the usually composed Grand Master. She smiled gently, her hand brushing against his in a quiet, unspoken gesture of affection.
Before the moment could linger, Amber's voice called out from behind them, her cheerful energy breaking the quiet.
"Hey! Aether! Jean! Come on, we're getting ready for a training exercise. You guys should join us!"
Aether and Jean turned to see Amber approaching, her usual bright smile lighting up the morning. Behind her, Lisa and Rosaria were walking at a more leisurely pace, each of them wearing their own unique expressions—Lisa with her playful smirk and Rosaria with her usual cool detachment.
"Looks like there's no rest for the weary," Aether said with a chuckle.
Jean smiled, her usual seriousness returning. "Let's not keep them waiting."
The group gathered in the training grounds just outside the city, where the Knights of Favonius often held drills and exercises. Today, however, the mood was lighter, more relaxed. It wasn't a formal training session—it was more of a chance for everyone to unwind and enjoy each other's company after the intense battles they had fought.
Amber was the first to step up, her bow already in hand. "Let's see who can hit the most targets! Come on, Aether, I'll even give you a head start!"
Aether grinned, taking up the challenge. "You're on!"
Lisa, ever the spectator when it came to physical activities, leaned against a nearby post with a teasing smile. "Oh, dear, this should be fun to watch. Don't let Amber show you up too badly, Aether."
Rosaria, standing off to the side with her arms crossed, simply watched with her usual quiet intensity. "I'm more interested in seeing how the Traveler handles himself without the Abyss Order breathing down his neck."
The playful banter between them was a welcome change from the seriousness of their usual duties. Aether felt a sense of warmth as they laughed and teased one another, their bond stronger than ever. Despite the challenges they had faced, they had come through it together—and that connection had become something he cherished deeply.
As the day went on, the group took turns in friendly competitions, from archery to sparring matches. Even Jean, who rarely indulged in such lighthearted activities, joined in, her competitive spirit shining through as she took on Aether in a sparring match.
"You've improved," Jean said with a smile as their swords clashed. "I can see why Mondstadt looks up to you."
Aether grinned, matching her pace as they sparred. "I've had a good teacher."
The day passed quickly, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a sense of peace that had been hard-earned. By the time the sun began to set, the group found themselves sitting together in the shade of a large tree, watching as the sky turned shades of orange and pink.
"You know," Amber said, leaning back against the tree with a contented sigh, "days like this remind me why I love Mondstadt. We've got such an amazing city, and even more amazing people."
Lisa chuckled softly, her eyes twinkling. "Oh, Amber, you're always the sentimental one."
Rosaria, who had remained quiet for most of the day, finally spoke up, her voice low but sincere. "She's right. Mondstadt wouldn't be the same without all of us. And that includes you, Traveler."
Aether smiled, feeling the weight of her words. "I'm glad to be a part of it."
Jean, sitting beside him, looked out at the horizon with a thoughtful expression. "There's still a lot ahead of us. The Abyss Order isn't gone. But whatever comes next, I know we'll face it together."
Aether nodded, his heart filled with a quiet determination. "We will."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the group sat in comfortable silence, the bonds between them stronger than ever. Aether had come to Teyvat searching for his sister, but along the way, he had found something unexpected—friends, allies, and something more. His journey was far from over, but for the first time, he felt like he wasn't walking it alone.
