"Well, lad, I wanted to talk to you about something. I've heard about your skill with the bow from my men and you seem intelligent too. I'm always in need of talent like you on my ship so what say you? The pay will be very good." Quhuru threw the invitation after they had finished eating.
"I'm happy that you want me to join your ship, but sorry, I can't accept your offer, Captain. If it was before when I was in Lys, I would have given anything to board your ship and take part in your adventures. But now I've companions that I need to look after. I wish to settle for a few years at least, and not travel on a ship from place to place." Arrluk said without showing hesitation.
He did plan to travel the world but not for a few years or at least before he could become strong enough to survive anything this world could throw at him.
"Oh, that's fine. You can settle in Tall Trees Town, that is my hometown. You will love it there and in a couple of years, maybe you can join my ship then. How's that sound?" Quhuru suggested.
"Alright," Arrluk nodded his head. He wanted to settle down and have a place of his own. Train his wind magic and learn more skills that would help him defend himself. And lastly earn enough money to buy himself a ship or two of his own. Even if he wanted to travel the world, he won't do it on someone else ship. Therefore, joining the Cinnamon Wind was completely out of the question.
Kojja looked a little disappointed with his answer, though she didn't say anything to change his mind after they left the cabin and returned to her room. She only talked about her hometown and how he would love it there.
Arrluk spent the rest of the day helping the crew with chores such as fishing or cleaning. They covered a lot of distance during the day becasue of the good wind, courtesy of Arrluk of course. The more he used his ability the more he could feel his control over the wind growing and his mana increasing by a small amount after each use and recovery.
Kojja said if they could go on like this then they will see the land in four days max. By evening, Arrluk was finally able to get some rest in Kojja's room. As Xhasa and Kojja were still busy outside on the deck, Arrluk used this time to test his Altar's abilities by sacrificing the reward he got from Quhuru last night.
First, he sacrificed 10 gold dragons to the altar. Like last time, he got three options.
Basic Swiftness Potion x2
Basic Strength Potion x3
Basic Woodworking Knowledge
The only thing Arrluk find useful was the Basic Swiftness Potion. It would help him increase his speed and reaction time by a small margin permanently. Strength potion would only energize me for a small period of time as his body has already developed resistance to it.
As for the last option, well, it would give him basic knowledge of woodworking like how to make or repair wooden cabinets or doors or other wooden stuff. A useful skill yes but it was nothing in front of the swiftness potion.
But he still had coins so Arrluk decided to add another ten and this he got:
Intermediate Horse Riding Skill
Basic Smithing Skill
Basic Potion of Water Breathing x2
Arrluk checked out the last option and found that unlike other potions he saw beforehand, this one gave him the ability to breathe underwater for a limited time period of 1 Hr. A potion that would be highly sought after by many seafarers if they came to know of it.
The rest of the two skills were good but Arrluk wanted something more, something occult for now.
Arrluk sacrificed another 30 Golden dragons and got:
Advanced Farming Skill
Basic Glassmaking Skill
Basic Potion of Invisibility (15 min)
Arrluk looked at the last option and almost made the decision to acquire it but in the end, he held his hand. Who didn't want to become invisible? It's every man's dream. It was an excellent tool for spying on-Cough-enemies or saving themselves in precarious situations. A great elixir for thieves, perverts and assassins. Nonetheless, it wasn't something he needed now at this stage.
This time Arrluk sacrificed every single coin on him that is 100 Golden Dragons and got:
Advanced High Valyrian Language Skill
Mystic Water Arts
Sea Dragon Egg
"Jackpot!" This was what Arrluk was waiting for. He wanted the ability to control various elements like the one given by the Mystic Wind Arts.
The only thing that made him pause was the Sea Dragon Egg. Whether it was the shows or the books they had never shown or told much about these creatures. He didn't know how they fared against the Fire Dragons or how big they can grow. He also wasn't sure if he could hatch this egg by normal means or if it would be loyal to him like the Dragons of the Valyria. There was too much uncertainty about the Sea Dragon Egg and there was Mystic Water Art on the line.
In the end, Arrluk still decided to go with the second option.
Like last time, a bright blue light shot out of the Altar and entered his head. After experiencing a short discomfort of learning new mystical knowledge, Arrluk immediately started to work on it.
Same as before, Arrluk needed to construct a runic symbol of water in his mind to gain the ability of water manipulation that was in his surrounding.
But unlike last time, even with the experience of constructing the wind symbol and increase in his mana reserve, Arrluk always came a little short of completing the rune. After numerous tries and failing, Arrluk decided to eat something, and then rest for the night to replenish his mana and energy for now. He will try again tomorrow.
However, it seems the world was not happy with him gaining such incredible knowledge even if he was unsuccessful at mastering the first step. It was inevitable that he would be able to construct the Water symbol in just a day or two or a month at max.
Just as he went to bed with Kojja, the ship hit something and it came to an abrupt halt. The inertia threw them off the bed.
