After arriving in San Heith, Cynthia and her group had dinner together and then went their separate ways. Before parting, Mrs. Lindsay held Cynthia's hand, her voice choked with emotion, "Cynthia, thank you for these years."
She knew that the debts owed by her and her daughter to the Lindsays were not something that could be repaid with just a simple "thank you." Even with a thousand words, expressing her gratitude wouldn't be as effective as a single "thank you."
"Why say these things?" Cynthia clasped her hand, feeling the roughness of Mrs. Lindsay's joints, calloused fingers betraying the effects of years of hard work. Time had left indelible marks on her.
With a soft sigh, Cynthia continued, "If it weren't for you showing up in time back then, there might not be the Cynthia you see now."
