Family

The cries of the newborn baby resonate throughout the hospital room. Kiana holds onto her baby girl as Daniel looks down at the bed. Blake smiles at the new parents, Daniel and Kiana, from outside the room through the glass window.

It has been months since they left Earth. Blake and his family live in the spaceship cabin area, a large room compartment for a family. Mostly they use it to sleep. The rest of the time they spend throughout the spaceship. Blake helps with mechanical work. Lily watches the children in the various living areas. She also tends to wounds as a need arises in the infirmary.

Three days after the birth of Natalie, the big moment arrives. Blake sits at the communal table with Lily, Jared, and Rosie, eating dinner.

“All passengers must go to the cabin, as entry to the destination is hours away,” says a crew member’s voice.

Blake and Lily grab Jared and Rosie by the hand, leading them into the room. Closing the door, they wait in there all night.
