It was the fifth day of the last week of the ninth month, called Seren, and the memory of our Christmas dinner still lingered in the air, warming my heart. The next big event was the trip to Lumina Lake in the first week of the tenth month, but today was just a regular day in Eldergrove, one of the last few before the year-end celebrations began in earnest. I was determined to make the most of these remaining days and deepen my connection with Zane.
The morning light filtered through the window as I finished preparing breakfast. I was still riding the high from the Christmas dinner, and I wanted to keep that spirit alive. Zane walked into the kitchen, his hair tousled from sleep and a sleepy smile on his face.
"Morning, Evan," he said, his voice warm and husky.
"Morning, Zane," I replied, feeling a flutter in my chest. "I made some honeybread for breakfast. Thought it might be a nice change."
He grinned. "Sounds perfect."
We sat down at the wooden table, the scent of fresh honeybread filling the room. As we ate, we talked about our plans for the day.
"I was thinking of exploring the northern part of the forest today," Zane said. "I've heard there are some beautiful spots we haven't seen yet. Want to come with me?"
I looked at him, surprised and delighted by the invitation. "I'd love to. It sounds like an adventure."
After breakfast, we gathered our things and set off into the forest. The snow crunched under our boots as we walked, and the crisp air was invigorating. We chatted about everything and nothing, the conversation flowing easily between us.
"So, what do you miss the most about... where you were before?" Zane asked at one point, his tone curious but gentle.
I thought about it for a moment, choosing my words carefully. "I miss some things, like books and certain foods, but I don't miss the loneliness. Here, I feel like I belong."
Zane nodded. "I'm glad you feel that way. We're lucky to have you here."
We continued walking, and as the sun rose higher in the sky, we reached a clearing. It was breathtaking, with snow-covered trees surrounding a frozen pond that glistened in the sunlight. We sat down on a fallen log, taking in the beauty around us.
"This place is amazing," I said, my breath visible in the cold air.
"Yeah, it is," Zane agreed. He looked at me, his eyes soft. "I'm glad we can share this."
I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me. "Me too. It's nice to have someone to explore with."
"Definitely," Zane replied, his eyes twinkling. "Remember when you first got here and we went hunting? You've come a long way since then."
I laughed, the memory bringing a smile to my face. "Yeah, I was pretty clueless back then. Thanks for putting up with me."
Zane nudged me playfully. "You weren't clueless, just new. And I didn't mind at all. It's been fun having you around."
We sat in comfortable silence for a while, just enjoying each other's company. It felt like a special moment, a quiet connection growing between us.
After a while, Zane stood up and offered me his hand. "Come on, let's keep exploring."
I took his hand, feeling a jolt of warmth at the contact. We continued our adventure, discovering hidden nooks and crannies of the forest. At one point, we found a small cave adorned with icicles that sparkled like crystals. Inside, the air was still and cool, and we could hear the distant sound of dripping water.
Zane lit a small fire to keep us warm, and we sat close together, the flames casting flickering shadows on the cave walls.
"Thank you for bringing me here, Zane," I said, feeling a deep sense of gratitude.
He smiled, his eyes reflecting the firelight. "I'm happy you're here, Evan. It's nice to share these moments with someone special."
I blushed, looking away for a moment. "You've been really great to me, Zane. I don't know how to thank you."
"You don't need to thank me," he replied, reaching out to touch my hand lightly. "Just being here is enough."
We sat there for a long time, talking about our hopes and dreams, our pasts and futures. It was a conversation filled with honesty and warmth, and I felt our bond growing stronger with each passing moment.
"So, what's the first thing you want to do when we get to Luminas Kingdom?" Zane asked, his tone light and curious.
"I'm not sure," I replied, thinking it over. "Maybe take in the scenery, see what the Kingdom of Luminas is like. It sounds so magical."
"It is," Zane said, his eyes lighting up. "I think you'll love it.
I said, smiling. "It sounds amazing. I can't wait."
As the fire crackled and the night grew darker, we continued to share stories and dreams. At one point, Zane reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers brushing my skin softly. I felt a shiver run down my spine at the touch.
"You have really nice hair, and black hair really suits you" he said, a bit shyly.
"Thanks," I replied, my cheeks flushing. "I like yours too, I think your black hair goes well with your black eyes, it's hypnotizing when you look at it too much."
We sat there for a moment, the silence comfortable and filled with unspoken feelings. It was clear that something was growing between us, something special.
Eventually, we made our way back to the village, the stars twinkling above us.
That night, as I lay in bed, I thought about the day and the feelings that had blossomed between Zane and me. This was what love felt like—warm, comforting, and full of promise.
