Chapter- 3

I thought that it would have been too dangerous to go to the river yesterday to try and find what was going on, as it was already dark and could have been dangerous for us.

It's been years but we are not strong enough yet. As much as it pained me and embarrassed, it was the truth.

But we should have gone there yesterday, if we did, the sight in front of me would have been different.

I had woken up as usual and went to wash before going out to help Fang Chen with cooking.

Fang Chen was the second youngest of us 6 followed by his twin brother, Fang Chun the youngest.

As his name suggested, he was a man of great personality and even a better cook. Had it not been for him, we would have starved to death.

I was about to enter the kitchen when a heart pericing cry went over the whole village.

Not be dramatic, but I swear I saw the birds fly out of the trees as if they were escaping from this sound.

'What now?!'

The foot that was about to cross the threshold of the kitchen turned around and ran out of the house.

I could hear the footsteps behind me, following me. I didn't turn around because I knew it was my friends.

We came to a stop in front of the well in the corner of the village where the public bathhouse was located. There were few ladies who were huddled in a corner, trembling, crying. Their eyes wide with fear.

I turned my head to follow thier gaze and saw another dead body same as the one we saw yesterday, only skin and bones.

'Another victim...I have to do something, and fast.'

After asking around it was revealed that it was the body of the man who operated the bathhouse. He had came early in the morning here to open the bathhouse for people. No one knew what happened in between but when these ladies came here to bath, they saw him in this condition and couldn't help but scream from apparent fright.

'Again, it's happening again. People dying because of me, why, lord why?! Why couldn't I do anything for them...'

Can I ever stop it? Would I ever be able to protect the people around me?

I apologise to everyone who reads what I write, I have been gone for a while. I got busy with my college life and extra classes. I thought I'll update a lengthy chapter to make up for it but then I just found out that my grandfather passed away today. I still didn't want to keep you all waiting so here's something.
