Chapter 52

Wayne liked to oblige.

Pad texted Wayne again, but Wayne didn’t text right back. He noticed in the last few of weeks that Wayne would go hours at a time before he responded. This was a new thing.

“Hasn’t texted you back?” asked Jack. Pad shook his head, aware that Jack dropped his overnighter on Pad’s newly dry-cleaned bedspread. Jen had a project to work on this weekend and kicked Jack out of their place so she could focus.

“Nope. He’s probably at the gym. I know he’s off work right now.”

“Maybe you should work out with him. Wouldn’t hurt you,” Jack added. “Beef up those arms, work off that baby fat around your waist.”

“Thanks, buddy.” Pad shook his head. “Really appreciate the moral support.”

“No, I’m serious. You should work out. You need to be able to have something in common with him besides sex.”

“What? We have a lot in common! We’re in the Air Force, we’re gay.” Pad’s voice trailed off. “We like the same foods. Spaghetti, pepperoni pizza.”
