“I’ve got something to tell you, something kind of important,” Ted said.
“Oh?” Kenny stopped walking and turned to face Ted, an apprehensive look on his face.
“No, it’s nothing bad. It’s something you’ll think is good—I hope you will anyway.”
Kenny took a deep breath and said, “Okay. I was afraid you were going to say you weren’t going to enroll at the university for the winter term or something.”
“No, I’m not going anywhere,” Ted said warmly.
They started walking again.
Then it was Ted who took a deep breath. “I know how important it is to you to take things slow. So I don’t really know why I haven’t told you before this. Maybe it’s because I didn’t want you to think I was just trying to hit on you or something.”
Kenny turned to face Ted again.
“I’m gay.”
