Part 2:6

The next morning Seth woke feeling better than he had in days. The hot meal, the hides, and the cloak had kept him warm, and he had slept soundly all night. He could smell the fire burning and hear Tugul’s bear like humming and got up. He pulled open the tent and saw the orc and Ben were already sitting down to breakfast. It was a dull morning, frost had painted the clearing in white, and a mist hung in the air, shrouding the greens and browns of the forest in a pale grey.

“Hey sleepy head.” Ben held up the makeshift plate. “Eggs?” he asked, with a mouth full and a huge grin.

Seth rubbed at his eyes and crawled from the tent, stood up straight and stretched. “You know it,” he said, taking the plate Ben was holding toward him. “So, what’s the plan?”

Ben chuckled and tossed his head in Tugul’s direction. “He’s found their trail. We’ll eat and clear out. The sooner we’re off, the sooner we catch up.” The boy’s eyes danced and sparkled with mischief.
