Chapter six

I sat up groggily and looked around. I paused and took in my surroundings. Why did I wake up at Fritz's place? I rubbed my temples, but couldn't remember.

"Mae? Are you up?"

I turned towards him. He walked in and flipped on the light. I blinked a few times at the harsh light, and felt him sit next to me.

"Why am I at your place?"

"You went out for drinks with Mike and Jeremy… the bar had to call me to come get you."

I placed a hand on my forehead and laid back down. Fritz flopped down next to me concerned.

"Are you okay..?"

"Yeah… sorry."

He laughed. "It's fine, your my cousin. Gotta help you."

I smile and closed my eyes. He laughed and stood up.

"Light on or off?"

"Off, radio on low, door cracked," I looked at him. "Please and thank you?"

He chuckled and did as I asked. As he shut the door, my phone dinged. I opened my phone to see it was 12:03.

Hello Mae.

Who's this?

Hello, "song bird"

I paused and typed out my next text with caution.

William..?

Ding Ding Ding

How did you get this number

Oh song bird, do not fret. Jeremy gave it to me.

I went to shut off my phone… but it dinged again.

Don't turn off your phone, I'm not done talking to you yet.

The air left my body. I began to panic and shot up out of bed. My eyes shot from one end of the room to the other. The window is unlocked, the curtain is open, the closet door is cracked. I began to rush around fixing the anxiety. As I calmed back down, my phone dinged one last time.

Oh little song bird… I'm sorry. Please rest easy tonight~

At about two in the morning, I sat up and walked outside only in my wrinkled clothes I never bothered to change out of, socks with holes in them, and a thin jacket. As I walked out, I felt peering eyes on me. Walking out into the soft dirt, I began to yell.

"Where are you! Come out!"

I got no reply. From out of the corner of my eye, I saw a glimmer of sliver from the wood line. My head snapped to the left and I took off in a sprint for the tree line. I was going to catch this guy, even if it killed me.
