CHAPTER FIVE

Sunday morning , a day to be in the presence of God, a day to obey the law which says honour the sabbath and keep it holy, and also a day when Victoria woke up with a serous headache.

"Crap!".She exclaimed in frustration as she put off her alarm.

"I should have taken those sleeping pills early enough". She said.

She had been having trouble sleeping since forever and was one step closer to becoming am insomniac. She wasn't going to let that happen so she started taking sleeping pills. She had forgotten to take them early last night which explained her throbbing head this m orning.

She stood up from her bed to go to the bathroom. She really didn't think she had energy to go to church. But she would still go, obviously. The thing is that she had always taken God seriously, ever since the time it dawned on her that she needed him badly during a crisis she had before entering the university.

After getting dressed, not in anything particularly expensive or cheap, she locked the door to her two bedroom apartment and zoomed to church in her petite Toyota camry.

*************************

Everyone in church could identify miss Victoria with her small silver colored Toyita carry that shone like the sun. It was almost impossible to find a speck of dust on it. Everyone assumed she washed it all weekend but funny enough, the only thing she did was to just make sure she parks it under a neat shed and clean it every day as she goes to work.

"Vicky and her spotless car, welcome".Funke said with a giggle.

"Hello there, happy Sunday to you". Victoria said as she stepped out of her car and locked it.

Funke was like the only friend she had in the church and that was because they both attended the same university and were even roomates then. Funke was an always laughing, lively girl with lovely dimples and a small figure. She reminded Victoria of The Tele tubbies. From her description, you could discern that she was the one who made friends with vicky and not the other way round. But all the same, vicky was equally committed to the union. The two ladies indeed went through a lot together. funke was a member of the church choir and you could say the choir was lucky to have her. From her commitment to her punctuality to her high pitched soprano voice, everything was just on point. Vicky, on the other hand, decided not to be a worker. She just wanted to serve from afar and she has remained devoted to that service till this day.

"So what song are you guys singing today?"vicky teased.

"I'm not telling you ma'am, and besides, you haven't told me the secret to your consistently shining car". Funked shot back.

"I have told you so many times, there is no secret!" Vicky laughed.

"Well, then, I'm not telling you our choir secret!"

Vicky just continued laughing, Funke could behave like a baby sometimes.

"Funke, let's just go inside".

"Didn't I beg you to join the choir? You didn't agree, now you want to know our secret...". Funke just kept babbling on and on as vickg just pulled her into the church building.

Pastor sullivans was a very lively man. In fact, too lively for a man of his age. He cracked jokes, jogged to the pulpit and laughed heartily all the time. He would always call it "the joy of the Holy ghost".

His sermon today aimed directly at his usual mood. Happiness.

"The joy of the Lord is our strength, can I hear an amen!" He said, with every ounce of energy.

"Amen!" The congregation roared.

"You know, most of us are so caught up in our last that we forget the glory ahead" He said with worry pasted on his face.

That hit vicky. That was one thing she was sensitive about. Her past. But she needed to let it go.

"Tell someone beside you, let go and let God!". The pastor said.

Let go and Let God. Let go and Let God. Vicky said within her. she needed let go and let God.

"Do you know that sadness can make you sick? yes, it can! so whatever past you have, whatever challenges you've faced, just move on! and just laugh!" The pastor said with a smile and then suddenly burst laughing.

The congregation too followed suit and laughed with all their hearts and let all their sorrows just.. REST.

All except Victoria. She just sat there and pondered heavily on what she had just heard.
