CHAPTER EIGHT

"jenifer"

"Yes ma"

"come here"

Jennifer ran to the living room where nanny sat. she had been reading her favourite book series 'summer days' when nanny called. she really loved the series. she was literally obsessed.

"what are you doing in the room?" nanny asked.

"nothing, I was just reading". she replied.

"reading what? that your story book shey? instead of you to be studying. Dont worry, I will soon cease that book".she hissed.

"Go to my room and fetch my glasses, I want to read this magazine". She said, holding a fashion magazine.

"Okay ma" Jennifer replied.

After five minutes of searching, Jennifer couldn't find the glasses, but she did found something.

while checking under nanny's bed, she stumbled upon a metal box. it looked kinda sus so she couldn't resist opening it.

there was a brown paper file in it that contained a lot of things including a flash drive used as a pendant for a silver necklace. There was a tag on the necklace that read 'Hand this over to Jennifer when she's 18'. the words made her more and more confused. Who wanted to give her this drive and why ? She looked further for answers and saw an obituary paper. But whose?

THE OBITUARY OF MR AND MRS EDWARD ADEDEJI.

she almost collapsed when she saw her parents names on the obituary paper. A lot of questions ran through her mind. Were her parents dead? Had nanny been lying to her? was it her parents that wanted her to have the flash drive? for what reason?

"Hey I found my glasses, you don't need to-"Nanny said, walking into the room, but stopped midway when she saw Jennifer with the forbidden files in her hands. Her face turned pale and she went silent for a moment.

"How did you find this ?". She said, almost yelling.

Jennifer was already on the verge of tears as she stared at nanny with blood shot eyes.

"you've been lying to me all these while".She managed to blurt out.

nanny knelt beside her

"I can explain-"

jenny cut her off

"there's nothing to explain, my parents are dead, long dead. And you kept it a secret from me!" She said, already crying a river of tears.

"I'm sorry, I had to, you have to listen to me" Nanny said, also sobbing.

"so what is this?" Jennifer asked, showing nanny the flashdrive.

"Another bunch of lies?"

she sighed

"I don't know, but your dad said to give you once you turn 18, which is in less than three years time, I'm really sorry I didn't tell you these sooner please forgive me". she pleaded.

Jennifer stood up abruptly and ran to her room, locking the door behind her.

she sat down on the floor and lay her back to the door, crying profusely and clutching the flashdrive close to her chest. She had been a fool, to think that they went on a trip to Manchester for over six years. Those times, she had thought they were gone temporarily and would come back one day.

But it had all changed, now she knew for sure that they were gone forever.

****************************

"Riiiiiiing!!". Rang the alarm clock, waking Victoria from her dream. This was the third time she was having the same dream. She normally found it hard to sleep at night, amd when she slept, she would have a pretty bizarre dream.

she sighed.

she just couldn't have it all.

In the dream, she would be stuck In a mist of thick clouds. Two figures could be seen from afar in white garments stained with blood, waking slowly towards her.

she would cry for help over and and over again and try to run but would still find herself in the same spot. The two figures would keep coming closer and closer and after some time, begin muttering her name over and over again. When they reach her, she would finally recognise them. Her long dead parents.

And then she would suddenly wake up.

three times in a row, she had that dream she was beginning to think her parents were trying to pass her a message from the great beyond.

But what were they trying to tell her? she had read too many stories about dead parents disturbing their indeed relatives from the spiritual realm to avenge them.

Was that what they were trying to say?To avenge their killers?

But she didn't even know when they were killed or had any information on their death whatsoever. The only thing she was told as that they died in a plane crash on their way to Manchester. This story of course, didn't sound legit, but that was what she was told. What if the story was in fact, untrue and her parents were actually killed by someone or some people?

She was going through these thoughts when she heard a knock on the door. It was funke.

"Whay are you doing here?". Vicky asked, leading her in.

"ummm..have you forgotten?". Funke replied, jumping into one of vickys chairs like a playful child.

"Forgotten what?"

"You have such a bad memory, old woman. We were supposed to watch a movie together today. We planned it last week. Remember?". Funke said, sounding dissapointed.

"Oh...." Victoria said, trying to remember when she made that agreement.

"Stop trying to remember, you probably weren't paying attention when I made the arrangement". Funke snapped.

"But I'm going to be late for work" Vicky said.

"work?" Funke laughed. "There's public holiday, no work today".

"What?"

Funke gasped.

"Don't you know? Today is Nigerias independence day"

"Oh really"

"Yes".Funke said."Anyways forget that, what movie should we watch?".

"I don't know". Vicky replied.

"Ugh! You are so boring, I'll go through your netflix for movies to watch. Where is your laptop?"

"on the study table"

"Oh my God" Funke exclaimed immediately she opened the laptop.

"What?"Victoria said, coming over to check out the cause of funke's outburst.

"Oh my God". Vicky exclaimed too as she saw the blood red texts plastered on her laptop screen that read:

"IM GOING TO GET YOU!"
