As I stood outside the tent, my heart was racing and the air was thick with stress. Inside, Lucien was getting ready for the ritual that would either kill him or save us all. My head was spinning, and I had trouble breathing. How had things gotten to this?
Lucien was prepared to offer all. And I hadn't yet told him the truth about the child that was developing inside me. He was unaware that the child existed.
I closed my eyes, attempting to calm the storm of emotions inside of me. I just couldn't tell him. Not right now. Not when he was ready to take such a substantial risk. However, if something happened to him during the ceremony and he did not survive the night, he would be unaware. He would never have the chance to be a father.
"You have to tell him," Crystal, my wolf, murmured inside me. He should know.
