Jared gave a small chuckle before pulling me into a hug. These few months with the Shadow Mountain Pack truly taught how a pack should function… as a large family.

/"Go talk to Xander, and sort this out. I don’t want this to drive a wedge between you both. With the battle up ahead, we need to cherish every moment with our mates lest we regret it when they are no longer by our side./"

/"I will, Jared./"

He smiled and left. His words rang in my head and it hurt to know that I had just lied through my teeth. I was a coward, I could not bear to face Xander after what I did. The look of hurt on his face was etched in my mind, and knowing that I was responsible for it was torture. I needed to go somewhere to muster up the courage before I could even look into his eyes.
