A Gaming Afterlife - Chapter 4 - HebisamaChapter 4: Dragon Age Start!Notes:

AN: I know some of you don't really know the DA universe so please if anything is unclear, comment or PM me so I can try to modify the text a little to clear things up. I think all is somewhat clear or easily understandable on its own but I'm an old hat in DA so I'm biased... Also, please give DA a chance, its an awesome universe with a wealth of lore, easily one of my favorites to either read or write about. So onto DA Origins, the first game of the (so far) triology!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

"Ok, Dragon Age" I exhale loudly, excitement bubbling up. No, I have to rein that in, this is a time for careful consideration and planning.

"Ok, Dragon Age" I exhale again. Nope, it didn't work, still too excited.

I can practically feel System roll its eyes as the first choice is shoved upon me without prompting. That does actually help calm me down. The first choice is timeline and the other choices will be just as crucial.

First though, I want to see what I am working with. The entire selection. Not just the timeline but all the other choices following. This one isn't going to be a quickie like Boku no Hero Academia, a few months and then beg off. No, I have plans for Thedas. True player plans. And for those plans to work I can't just wing it.

So the question pretty much is – how do I best conquer the continent? And have fun doing it?

As I scroll and scroll, a tentative plan forms in my mind and the more I think about it, the more I like it. Yes, this should be fun.

Anyway, back to the beginning. The first choice.

Timeline selection:

[Fifth Blight (Origins)] 0 Credits

[Before Deep Roads Expedition (DA2)] 0 Credits

[Explosion of the Temple of Sacred Ashes (DAI)] 0 Credits

There are more choices further down but I have my choice already - the very first one. You see, by paying the bargain of 100 credits, I can start off three months before the Battle of Ostagar. The Blight officially starts then but the Wardens and the king of Ferelden have already seen some action before that battle. And like Baelish of Game of Thrones said, chaos is a ladder, and there is no better chaos than a mix of the Blight and civil unrest.

Sure, there are plenty of other options – like the time of Emperor Drakkon or the attempted assassination of the Divine that Cassandra thwarted, heck I could even go into Andraste's time (actually I couldn't, way too expensive for my heart to take), but the very start of the franchise seems the most appropriate and best over all.

With that decided, the next choice is easy enough. My destination, or spawn point, has to be somewhere I can take advantage of a weak Ferelden. It all boils down to the question of how and who do I want to use for my conquest.

Which brings me to the fun part. Not Orlais, not Ferelden nobility, not the Chantry, I will go barbarian. I will unite Thedas under the Avvar banner. Fun, right? Unite the tribes, conquer Ferelden and then expand even further.

Avvar would mean dealing with less politics and what politics remains can be dealt with force. I'm sure I can appeal to their religious nature as well – much better than the Chantry. Also, I know from the Inquisition DLC that while most of the tribes are content where they are, some of them very much want to take back their Fereldan soil. Sure, they always failed but that was because of lesser manpower and sub-par equipment. Something I can help with.

Also, with the Avvar I can use my magic openly. No more scurrying in the shadows, I'll be out and proud.

Yes, I'll take the barbarians and I will forge a new era. A new empire and a new religion. And no Chantry or the Qun expansion will stop me. Oh, they will try, but that what makes being queen fun, right?

I guess I could take the Chasind tribes but I know far less about them. And, I like the Avvar paint. And I want to be the Lady of the Skies or something along those lines. Hey, if the Inquisitor gets to be the herald of Andraste, I'll take the Lady.

Aaaanyway. After all that I still have to choose where do I arrive in Thedas. I mean, I have my eye on something but I'm hesitant. Skyhold. It was mentioned it was empty for a long time, occasionally inhabited by one group or other but mostly empty. Which is great – it won't help me with the Avvar but it's a great location to regroup, train and do some more 'off the books' stuff. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the fortress is kinda Solas', or Fen'Harel's, and I don't want his eye on me. Is Skyhold where he sleeps? He should be traveling around, right?

Or maybe I could risk it and use some SP to pump my Luck? Is the Skyhold thing even in the lore? It would make sense, especially with its name…

I'm selecting it. I want my fallback fortress in the Frostbacks. Yes, the alliteration was intentional.

Selected. Credits remaining 145.902

Background selection:

[Go as you are] 0 Credits

[Existing Background] 20 000 Credits

[Custom Background] 30 000 Credits

Those options are interesting to peruse but I already know I want to go as myself. Still, the possibilities here are staggering – I could be the Warden or Inquisitor for a very cheap price but I could also be a noble from pretty much anywhere or even another Theirin bastard. In the 'existing' tab there are also some notable NPCs that I could evidently take over. No one all too important but I could be Sebastian from DA2 dlc or Nathaniel Howe. People like that.

Anyway, I'll go as my awesome self.

Selected. Credits remaining 145.902

Ah yes, next up is the winning condition. For this one I have to scroll down a good chunk. I don't want to start off with the absolute conquest, better to set a smaller goal and then continue with the Credits and the [World Jump] in my pocket. As such I select the 'Rule a nation'. I'm thinking that uniting the Avvar tribes will qualify.

It's actually one of the easier ones, believe it or not. There are options like 'cure the taint' or 'become a god'. Hm, maybe 'become Divine' should be classed as easier since I'm pretty sure with some Mind Mage and some politics I could do that handily. But being a sister, nope, nuh-huh.

OK, that's pretty much it, isn't it.

Ready to jump?

"No, wait a moment" I frown and call for my profile. I'm definitely adding that Luck. Those are never lost points. Aaaah, heck, let's invest 20 points and bring it to a nice 50. That should keep Solas away, right?

Alright, sounds good I guess.

You still have plenty Credits left. Shop?

"Nah, I can go there later" I shake my head. Now that I'm close to jumping again, the excitement creeps back in but it brings along some nervousness.

Jump then?

"Jump"

Jumping in 3…

2…

1…

My first thought when my vision finally clears is wow, this fortress is in a really shabby state. Which I knew, of course. But wow, I'm amazed it's still in one piece. Crumbling, but in one piece. But I definitely need to watch out for falling debris and stones.

But first things first, I can play tourist later. I quickly note the coordinates, something that is part of the Skill I stole from Kurogiri, so that I can teleport away should there be need for it. Like an irate elven god.

Number two, I cast [Presence Detection]. Being MAXed and all, it really gives me an amazing radius of search that easily encompasses the entire Skyhold. It also goes up and down, like a bubble.

Huh, no sleeping elven gods in any catacomb. No bandits either, or refugees. Nobody, just some critters all around. Looks like I was worried for nothing.

Since I can skip the fleeing or extermination steps, it's finally time to do something I have been looking forward to for quite some time. Summoning myself a Servant.

The [Companion Gem] practically leaps into my hand as I take it from Inventory, asking me to be used. No, literally asking me if I want to use it. Which is of course, yes.

It morphs in my hand until it is a gem no more and instead an eye-patch. Huh? Oh. I get it. I thought the summoning would start immediately but the gem just randomizes the artifacts of a Servant which now I have the option to use for real. It's alright I guess, now I can see exactly who I am summoning.

Which is going to be Margit from Majikoi. Or more precisely, Margit Eberbach, the Hound, from Maji De Watashi Ni Koi Shinasai! which is kind of fun since that is an erotic visual novel. But since all the women there are some kind of warriors, it's a good pick.

I liked Margit, one of my favorite routes to be honest. She's a total bottom but a beast on the battlefield, also fiercely loyal so that works great for me. Well, all of that works well for me.

Onto the summoning proper though!

"Ehm, System?"

Just put in on the ground and activate it

Right. Ok. Here we go then.

There is some light and show, something I actually appreciate. The circle and the lines, it all reminds me of Fate summonings but without the need of me to chant.

And here she is, standing tall and proud in her dark blue military uniform, her crimson hair caught in the wind of the Frostbacks. Yup, definitely one of my favorites.

"Commandant Margit Eberbach reporting for duty" my new servant saluted.

"At ease" I smile as I [Observe] her.

Name: Margit Eberbach

Level: 25 (0%)

Title: The Hound

STATS

HP – 12M

STR – 356 (256)

VIT – 360

DEX – 304 (204)

INT – 112

WIS – 98

CHA – 30

LCK – 10

Those are some nice Stats, I can definitely work with those. One thing that puzzles me a little is that the figures in parenthesis are actually lower than her normal Stats – with me it's the opposite, my Equipment boosting me. But then I recall that in Majikoi Margit used her eye patch to nerf herself and it all makes sense. Also it's intriguing to see her level which is the same as mine - design or coincidence?

Anyway, no MP and by her Stats she's an avoid tank. I would've given her more CHA, her being a very respected commander of her own unit, but System knows best I guess. I'll also have to take her to a dungeon to see her in action, mainly her Skills that I can't see. And I'm also interested to see how she levels and how her Stats grow.

"Do I meet your approval?" Margit askes, not giving anything away in the tone of her voice.

With my [Telepathy] though, which I am relieved works on her, I can feel genuine curiosity. She's assessing me just as I am her.

"I very much approve" I nod resolutely with a small smile, "Especially since it looks like you excel at thy physical side of combat. Myself I would classify more of a mage."

Margit's posture loosenesd a tiny little fraction "Yes, I know."

"What exactly do you know about me?" I ask, genuinely interested how the summoning ritual works.

The soldier nods "I know your overall goal and character as well as most of your capabilities. I also know about the Game."

"What about the world we're in?"

"Not much, just the language and some geography and history"

"Do you know if you can hop worlds with me?"

"I can"

"Can you contact System?

"I cannot, you are my Master"

I hum, satisfied with the information I got. I think the rest will come in time. Still, I feel we should lay down some ground rules. "I have an order for you, a number one priority."

"Aside your well-being" Margit interjected, much to my surprise. A good surprise, I like a little initiative.

I chuckle "Yes, apart from that. Do not tell anyone about the Game. Well, unless I specifically direct you to. It's a secret that must be maintained."

"Understood" the red-head nods sharply.

+5 affection with Margit for knowing how to handle sensitive information

Oh right, the affection/obedience mechanic. I mostly ignored it in BokuHero, relying on my telepathy and the fact I didn't care much for any NPC there. Better check where do I stand with Margit though, she's my minion, my lieutenant.

Not bad, 75 on obedience and a very starting 20 of affection. Right now obedience is more important and she has that one in spades. A truly loyal hound. I'll have to work on the affection but it shouldn't be that hard. I hope. I mean, she already knows my goals and methods so she knows I'm a bit on the bastard side.

"We'll sort the rest as we go" I hum, "Now, if you don't have any objections, I'd like to take you to a dungeon to see your capabilities."

Margit's eyes practically sparkle and the corners of her mouth turn decidedly up, the most expression she has shown to me so far, "No objections."

+5 affection with Margit for delivering strong enemies to fight

Yep, I think I'll be good on that affection soon.

I'm really happy with Margit, she's a good companion to have. She doesn't judge my ambitions, likes to fight and once she is more comfortable with me, there is some witty and sarcastic talk coming out of her. On the less personal side, she's impressed me. I took her straight to Moonlit Forest and then even to the brand new Hero dungeon and she has shown she truly is an excellent warrior. Still, I'll definitely be building some equipment for her, she may keep the eye patch but she's getting boosted regardless. And as soon as I figure them out, she's getting an invisibility device, teleport and flight. I want her to be able to keep up with me.

I'll also need to modify my armor to look a little less futuristic or at least sleek enough to be hidden by a heavy cloak. Right now I'm making do with my Stealth II model and a bear cloak I got as loot from the forest dungeon. It has no Stat boosts or anything, but it is pretty and warm. I gave one to Margit too.

Of course I could also choose Blacksmith as my Class to make an armor truly fitting to this world. And I will, but not right now. I already chose my new Class. Once I let Margit loose in the first dungeon it became apparent that I receive a portion of the exp for her kills, something I will be definitely exploiting, and my already level 49 Summoner was soon topped up. And with the knowledge of my plan and this world, I chose my new Class – Light Mage. A newcomer to the Mage tab along with Dark Mage. Since I'm aiming for the 'Lady of the Sky sent me' spiel, I think light is a clear winner and with the Blight at the door, some anti-dark Skills will be handy.

I got one right way actually as the two Skills I received when equipping the Cass were [Imbue Light] and [Blessing of Light]. The first one works against undead, damaging them and even repelling them and can be put on weapons and armor. I think I can do some warding with it too. Still, all that is based on the presumption that the Darkspawn are undead, which they should be. Anyway, the second Skill is a general buff applied to people that raises their overall resistances. I tried it on Margit and it works a little on physical stuff but very well against magic and elemental effects.

I also already have some light Skills from before, my [Light Spears], [Light Bullets], [Light Shield] and many others I derived from a light-based quirk I stole, but all of them were low level. Something I sought to remedy while dungeoning with Margit.

But dungeoning was hardly all I was doing. It was a small part actually. No, my main interest was scouting and finding that one Avvar tribe that will start it all. I sent summoned falcons all around the Frostbacks and some more when I found Frostback Basin, the place I knew for sure the Avvar resided.

Third day in DA and I have a tentative winner. Blood Mist Hold. I admit I was first drawn to it because of the name, the Naruto similarity amused me, but when I started to look into them more in-depth I found them a good candidate. They are one of the more militant tribes but are smart about it, mostly due to their Thane that seems widely respected and level-headed. The hold's shaman, or Augur, is a bit of a zealot and has quite a following. A combination of those two sounds really promising.

Yes, if my scouts don't find anyone better, Blood Mist Hold it is. FYI, the name apparently comes from the fog that surrounds their mountain and the bloody history of the tribe. Also, their hold is one of the closer ones to Ferelden, which is also why they were known for raiding. If I'm reading the map correctly, the closest Fereldan land would be West Hill Arling and then further on Fallow Mire. Of course Fallow Mire is dangerously near the Korkari Wilds so I have to be careful about Flemeth. The Chasind are around here as well.

Funnily enough, Ostagar is relatively close as well. I might take that fortress back once we clear out the Darkspawn. It also makes me wonder about the fate of my chosen tribe in canon – they really are close enough and the Deep Roads have many exits, it's entirely possible Blood Mist Hold took the brunt of the Darkspawn invasion in Origins.

Well, not on my watch. I will be their savior. Their divinely appointed savior. Hopefully the real, should she be real, Lady of the Skies won't mind. I fully plan on bringing glory to her name, lands and worshippers. But I can't forget about the other gods, if I'm going to be uniting the tribes, I need them all. The augur will help me, with my Mind Mage Skills and his own character, he will be a most devout follower. The Thane will make for an excellent advisor too.

You know what, I'm choosing here and now. Blood Mist it is. I'll start on phase 2 tonight.

"My Lady?" Margit interrupts my thoughts.

"Yes?" I withdraw from my planning and return to reality.

"Perhaps some lunch is in order" the soldier suggests, giving no sign that she is hungry herself. Excellent acting since I know for a fact that she's starving. Turns out she has no spirit form and she is well and truly summoned into this world.

I chuckle "You're right. Let's return to Skyhold and have something to eat. I'll be preparing for the next part of my plan."

"You have chosen?" Margit asks as the dungeon shatters away and we return to Skyhold's main courtyard.

"Yes. Blood Mist. I'll be visiting the hold tonight, not that they'll notice"

The red-head frowned minutely "Alone?"

"You can't do stealth" I remind redundantly, "I'll build it for you soon. Once I figure out some other things and get my prophesized arrival going."

"Hm"

"Problem?"

"I just don't like you going alone, my lady"

I nod, resisting the urge to chuckle. She knows well I can protect myself and that I have a much wider array of option available to me, but she still worries about her charge.

Before I can reassure her, she continues "And I hope those spirits and gods will not mind you interfering. Or reveal your deception."

"They should like me warning them of the Darkspawn arrival" I frown. I'm pretty much relying on Luck and Charm, or is it Charisma?, to prop me up. I'll take good care of the tribe. And they are looking to raid anyway…

"Hopefully" Margit hums skeptically.

"Maybe we could be extra nice to all the birds around, yeah?" I finally say.

"Wouldn't hurt, I guess" the soldier nods approvingly.

I really am glad I got her, could you picture Arturia from Fate? Sure, I love her to pieces, but she's rigid. Chivalrous. Stubborn. Uptight. And many other less than flattering adjectives. She'd never go along with any of my plans. Yep, Margit is an awesome pick.

"What is it, my lady?" Margit frowns, "You are looking at me strangely."

"Merely glad I have summoned you in particular"

+5 affection with Margit, she's the proud sort

'Nice'

"If we ever go hunting we could leave part of the carcass out" the soldier returned to the previous topic.

I shrug, being stationed at Skyhold for now, I just used my stored up food. But it is probably smart to leave that to the emergencies and start acclimatizing ourselves instead. "Not a bad idea" I hum, "Anyway, I think I'll head to the Hold early, to get the feel of it for myself instead of my summons. If anything happens I can always teleport back."

"A useful power" Margit admits despite her discomfort of not being able to protect me over there.

I grin proudly, my powers are awesome. All of them, but especially all Mind Mage has to offer. This little plan of mine relies on it most heavily. Not that my other powers are any worse. For example my shape-shifting is super useful, although right now I'm only using it to shift on a better peeing device with Skyhold lacking facilieties and all.

A grumbling sound coming from Margit brings my focus back onto her request. With a teasing smirk, and a lightly blushing servant, I bring out our lunches and take us up onto the sturdier part of the battlements. Skyhold truly held the most amazing scenery.

Lunch is devoured quickly and I decide to indulge with a dessert. Hmm, hot fudge. That will definitely keep me going during my little snooping expedition to the Avvar hold that will go well into the night. I'll be sending dreams, so freezing night it is for me. Ah well, all in the name of conquest.

"What should I do in your absence?" Margit asked.

I hum and bring her back to the courtyard before summoning Wolfie to keep her company. Those two really bonded, so much so that I was given another +5 affection for bringing him out. After getting a good rubbing from me, Wolfie struts to Margit and licks her hand. The red-head smiled quite beautifully at the massive beast. How fun, the wolf and the Hound.

"I don't have any orders for you, do as you wish. Maybe you can train with the new tonfa I built you" I shrug, "Just keep an eye out for any trespassers."

"Especially a bald elf" Margit nods, this being one of my standard requests, "Maybe me and Wolfie could go for a run?"

"Good idea" I smile at both of them, Wolfie waggling his tail.

"Good luck in your endeavor, my lady"

With one more parting grin, I wave "Thanks."

Night has fallen and I thank the Game that I don't really feel the cold. I mean I feel it, but it's just all in my head. When I forget I should be cold, my shivering stops completely. Great feature. Anyway, night has fallen, the moon is out, and I can finally do something more than just spy on my future people.

I'm happy with what I saw during the day, nothing really problematic stood out, everything was just as I scouted. I peeked in more than a few heads and I'm satisfied with what I got – the thane has everything well in hand and what he doesn't, the augur does. That means I only really have to be concerned about those two. There are other prominent tribespeople but they will go with the flow, they can wait. I also got to see the Hold-Beast, a truly magnificent eagle. That one I marked as important on the level of thane and augur. Yeah, Margit was right, I definitely have to bring the eagle something nice and tasty.

One fun/good thing is, that nobody has even the faintest idea that the Blight is around the corner. I suspect that groups of Darkspawn will begin roaming soon and that in a month or so, king Cailan of Ferelden will be calling his banners at the Wardens' urging. That all means that if the augur will come warning the people of the imminent danger, and is soon proved true, his other 'visions' will be taken even more seriously.

Still, I am glad that I practiced the dream thing – the augur is a mage so he interacts with the Fade when he's asleep. I kinda panicked at first but soon everything sorted itself out. Still, curiously enough, the Skill I'll be using is still the same between normal dreams and not. Just [Affect Dream]. Ah well, I'm no Solas, but I can manage.

Sneaking into the augur's home is easy – I'm not sure if I can do the Skill from a distance and actually seeing my target helps immensely. Though I'm glad he's sleeping alone, there are things I don't need to see, especially concerning the elderly augur. Anyway, nice and easy, I look into his dream. And then I guide it along the path I want it to take. Slowly and smoothly until we arrive to the portion I want him to see.

I grin to myself when the augur starts thrashing around a bit, disturbed by the sight of an army of darkspawn.

Then my grin fades and I resist the urge to smack myself. I should've done this closer to morning, so that he doesn't forget and his panic stays on. I want him to deliver my message with the utmost urgency.

Whelp, it looks like I'll be staying here all night. Joy. But better be safe than sorry.

'Margit?' I try softly, using the connection between us for communication

'My lady?' was the agitated reply, 'Should I come?'

'No, everything's alright. I might just take longer than predicted. I'll be around for lunch I wager'

'As you wish…'

'What is it? You can speak up, you know'

'…why so late?'

'I want to monitor their reaction and nudge things along should there be need'

'I see. I shall await your return'

'Good night, Margit'

'I'm not sleeping, what if I'm needed'

Seeing arguing as futile, I shrug 'Alright. See you tomorrow then.'

'Tomorrow, my lady'

I shut off the communication and settle myself for a long wait. I'll send the dream again in a few hours and then once more when I feel the augur starting to wake.

Once I am glad for my bottomless Inventory as I withdraw a book from it and start reading the night away.

My hopes that the augur is an early riser are answered. Finally! Stifling a yawn that is just in my head again, I once more delve into my target subconscious and do the same routine as I have done twice before. Despite the tedious, I am careful with the feel and all the details just like on my first try. It is crucial I get it right.

The augur is in that moment just before waking up, that semi-conscious state in which we remember dreams best. I am confident this is going to work and even more confident when his eyes suddenly shoot open and he steadies himself to calm his breath. His whole countenance is panicked, frightened and a little awed.

Perfect.

What I was not counting on was him looking around his home as if he was searching for me. Did one of the spirits he conversed with on occasion alert him of my presence? How? When? Did it really?

I calm back down when he searchingly whispers "Lady?"

My job done, and with the possibility of me mucking it up, I teleport away. I reappear in the shade of a nearby house, glad that despite this Skill coming from Kurogiri, it's more akin to Harry Potter's Apparition. One moment you're there and the next you're here, and if done right, nobody is none the wiser.

The augur doesn't wait long to run outside, I suspect that he only took the time to put his pants on. People definitely notice something is going on but there are only a few already outside. Most of the hold is still at home or even still asleep. Including the thane, poor sod, getting woken up by loud banging of a crazed augur. His bleary look when he finally opens his door is hilarious.

My newest augur friend does not wait to be invited outside and starts talking right off the bat. Which suits me just fine because it gets more audience and I don't have to sneak close to the thane's home to eavesdrop. The augur somehow knowing something was around freaked me out a little.

"Calm yourself!" the thane halts his augur, interrupting the very loud and frantic proclamation, "Take me to the beginning again. You say the Blight is near?"

The augur does not hesitate to nod "Yes."

"In three moon's turn"

"Yes"

The thane does not look asleep now, that's for sure. He looks around the now congregated crowd "Very well, continue."

The augur takes a calming breath and appears to regain his composure. Then he nod to himself and starts at the beginning again "I saw it all, in my dream. A vision from the Lady of the Skies."

There are murmurs at that, even louder than when he announced the Blight starting. The augur ignores them "I saw a big army of darkspawn overwhelm the lands below and I saw groups here on our mountains. I saw us fighting them, unprepared, scattered, injured and tainted. But then I saw the Lady of the Skies reach for us, help us. I saw what looked like a rain of light that hurt the Darkspawn, their flesh sizzled and they screeched. A light from the skies came to our aid. I saw a woman in that light."

"A woman, not an eagle?" the thane's brow furrows.

The augur nods "A champion of our Lady."

"A champion?" the thane strokes his short beard, "That is… not common."

"I know what I saw" the augur puffs up in indignation.

"I don't doubt you, my friend" is the measured reply. I kinda got the feeling those two don't get that much along but respect each other quite a lot.

"Then what?"

"We prepare for the Blight" the thane's voice booms so that the crow knows it is addressed to them as well, "The Darkspawn shall not take Blood Mist Hold!"

A cheer rises from the growing crowd but their leader isn't finished "Let the chiefs meet me for the morning meal, we must discuss our preparations. Recall all hunters, tonight I wish to address all of our Hold. Our hold-beast is strong, fast and cannot be pinned, so will we resist this dark plague!"

"Come, Vilgun" he adds to the augur and motions inside.

"What of the champion?" the older man does not move.

"Should the skies choose to aid us, I can only be forever grateful" is the conciliatory reply.

"The sky-chosen will come" the augur says resolutely but lets the matter be, following his thane inside his home.

In my little hiding place I grin. Sky-chosen, I like it. A lot. With that in mind I nudge the thoughts of several bystanders into this direction. Most are already considering what 'my' arrival will bring, their augur's word is trusted around here. I just… help it along a little.

Should I do a dream about conquering Ferelden? Many would welcome it, a good excuse to invade. Nah, we'll just liberate, yes I like that, liberate the Blight-infested parts of Ferelden. Give or take the whole south side? And the entire Frostback to the east, those are in need of some liberation too. I grin again, sometimes I find myself funny.

Ah well, it looks like it's going to rain soon and I want to take a nap. I think I can let the hold be, I'll visit again in a few days. Also I think it's time I sent some summoned scouts towards the capital. Look around Denerim a little and most of all, get a read on the Warden situation.

With that decided, I teleport back to Skyhold's coordinates. Time for my own dreams. I hope Wolfie is down for cuddles, he has a wonderfully soft fur…

The darkspawn didn't waste all that much time – a month after my little warning/prophecy to the Avvar hold and their blighted army was already sending scouting parties out on the surface. And Warden-Commander Duncan was already taking meetings with king Cailan. Who was unexpectedly really handsome, Origins really didn't give him justice. Loghain was around, so was Anora, those two were some sour faces.

All that I monitored through my summons. But the royal residence wasn't the only one to be spied on, I took a tour of every relevant Origins landmark and then even further, spanning all the games. But I did concentrate on the first game the most. I checked out Radcliffe, present Haven, even the Circle Tower though that was from a bit of a distance. Just to be safe. The Brecilian forest was far too dense to survey from up high and then there was Denerim, the capital of Ferelden. A shitty city to be perfectly honest. A sort of medieval city just on the verge of renaissance was my feeling of it. No wonder the Orlesians aren't impressed.

Blood Mist Hold is actually far homier, and I'm not just saying that since I plan on going there. It's clean, no beggars, a true community. I'm almost feeling bad that I'll be dragging them into 'civilization'.

Still, my frequent stealthy visits to the hold were not just to enjoy the atmosphere but to oversee my progress. The thane already sent some scouts and those have spotted the Darkspawn but have yet to engage them. Smart, why provoke the Darkspawn needlessly. The augur was also firmly convinced that I will save them from the Blight and serve as their protector. He was already hinting at invasion and the majority was pretty eager. Blood Mist Hold indeed.

I was actually planning on arriving pretty soon. The Darkspawn will not leave the Frostbacks alone and I already spotted several exits from the Deep Roads. Once the Blight comes in force, I'll make my grand entrance. That said, my tribe has made some impressive preparations, not that it would help them if an ogre came along. But the rest they can handle if they don't come in droves. Unfortunately, Darkspawn do like to come in droves.

While I was waiting for the real action to start, I was actually quite busy and surprisingly not bored in the least. Not like in HotD or BokuHero. No, this time I have a true purpose and a true companion. Heck, I could add Wolfie as well since I keep him around most of the time. The drag on my Mana is almost negligible and it regenerates so fast I can barely notice it gone. So while I was not spying on Thedas, I sparred with Margit a lot, did some dungeons and finally built her that invisibility. Teleport and flight are still pending.

That wasn't all though, this primitive land has plenty of various bandit troupes that I took pleasure in hunting. Margit urged me and it was a nice change of pace. Also, I got to use my [Stat Steal] again, but that was only before I realized I could level up my more brawny Skills via [Mind Thief]. With that I got quite a few levels in Sword Proficiency, Bow proficiency and the likes. [Sin of Greed] was purring inside of me as I took and took. I also tracked down a templar squad who was sent to confirm rumors of a mage presence in a village not far from the mountains. Naturally they never got near as I really wanted to try if they could smite me or not. I wanted to know if those Chantry dogs could strip me of my, very different, magic. Turns out they theoretically could, but they always fail the Stat Check. INT for the win.

They were a nice snack too, I got a heavy armor passive skill and some levels in nullification, the Skill I stole from Aizawa. Which kinda fits with that templar smite. I resolved to focus on it since it looked like a tool that could be used against the likes of Flemeth and Fen'Harel. No, Solas, I liked that better. 'Pride' indeed.

And with all that action I got not only another level but I also almost finished up with Light Mage. I really worked on it, wanting my performance against the darkspawn be truly awe-inspiring. I was also rushing because I wanted to take Wardmaker next – with [Imbue Light] as a basis I made a make-shift undead-repelling ward, but it doesn't last long and the radius is very limited. Wardmaker though should have something more permanent. I planned on setting up a safe space against the Darkspawn and use it to conquer territory. Or more like, hold territory. And that was the least a Warkmaker could do, at least by my estimate. It should help me with the eventual war with Ferelden or the Chantry. Neither will be happy with our new territory.

Generally, the production classes sounded better than ever. Both Blacksmith and Enchanter were on my list. Alchemist too. Since soon I will have an army it only makes sense to equip them with the best gear possible. I'd love to use my trusty Engineer but that was too advanced for Thedas and finding materials around here would be a pain anyway.

Which brings me to another point – once my army and my influence spreads enough, I will have to do some actual ruling and commanding rather than just fight on the front lines. Sure, the existing leaders will be helping me but I will need something more. Margit has that commanding the army in hand well enough although she was more of a squad leader, but fortunately I have brought in my Inventory enough literature that should get me started. Or I might just steal the knowledge somewhere… Anyway, it was not a priority but it will need to be addressed at some point.

What could be done now though, and something I procrastinated on a little, is collect a dragon soul sample. A drake too. I mean, there was a dragon relatively near us at Haven and I don't need to be touching him or anything to get it. Guess the idea of dragons as the apex predators fantasy worlds stuck with me. But no longer! I'll just go collect that overgrown lizard and soon I will have one of my own. Or even a swarm, we'll see how it goes.

Won't that be an awesome ace in sleeve. I think I'll whip it out when Orlais and/or the Chantry comes at me. Ha, their faces will be hilarious.

Better tell Margit I'm going, she frets over me and when I leave to do something dangerous without a word she gives me a very blank look that is somehow at 'I'm not angry I'm disappointed' level. Potent stuff.

Let us go get a dragon army.

Very Targaryen. With better hair though.

Two months later

"Margit!"

"My lady?"

I finish putting on my fur-lined cloak to cover my futuristic armor "We're moving! Now."

To my slight surprise Margit only saluted.

"You ready?" I ask to make sure and look around to see if we haven't left anything immediately important.

The red-head simply nodded "Always. The darkspawn are moving?"

"Yeah, a cave-in, now an exit from the Deep Roads. The darkspawn are pouring out. And they actually have an ogre, it was probably the one to dig" I sigh. If that particular darkspawn will go assault my new people, I might have to intervene sooner than I have anticipated.

"Your plan?"

"Same as before for now, let the tribe get a taste of the fighting. I want them despair a little"

"Very well" was the stiff reply.

"You disapprove" I hum knowingly.

"It serves the long term goal"

"But you disapprove" I smirk. I knew she already has a problem at hanging back during this battle but we already talked about this extensively. This disapproval felt fresh though. I was curious.

Margit relented at my stare and replied "Needless death. Not a pretty one either."

"No death is pretty" I shrug feigning some interest, "Besides, their wall will help. I just want them think all is lost before I make my move."

"The group of darkspawn is that big?"

"Yes, although they are splitting up. I think this is the entire contingent that is to take the Frostbacks and the Basin. If I were to guess, this contingent has further split from the underground army that is marching to the Korkari wilds."

"The king's army already encountered some" Margit hummed.

"Skirmishes, nothing big. But it got them marching south" I grin, Origins is well under way, "The big battle will be at Ostagar. Though I think they will encounter some more, slowing the army down so that the darkspawn can be amassed below."

"You did say that king Cailan is very confident in his victories – he will be careless." Another clear disapproval, this time aimed at the leader of Ferelden.

"The darkspawn employ good strategy. And the king is young and never fought a war before. Loghain is of a better mind"

"The future traitor"

I chuckle at the scrunched brow "He is an excellent military commander, all his faults and possible madness aside."

"Humph"

I grin, Margit looked cute when grumpy "We better be off, I want to monitor the situation myself. I'll teleport us and then levitate you along."

"I'm ready, my lady" the soldier nodded sharply and activated the belt that made her invisible.

"I know I sounded urgent but we still have two hours or so," I clarified, "I just want to get into position and not miss anything."

Getting a nod from my servant, as well as a small affection boost for being proactive, we depart from Skyhold and end up high on a snowed peak that has a nice view of the would-be-battlefield. Sure, there is some fog around but that is relatively easy to make go away with my hydrokinesis skill tree. Oh yeah, I have all the elements. BokuHero was very lucrative. Besides, I need a good view and even more I need a nice clear sky. And if the sun shines a lot, that would be really cool.

A loud cry form an eagle high above startles me. Both Margit and I look up at the bird in question. Well, maybe the lady of the skies heard me and the sun will shine?

Aaaanyway, time to wait. Once more I warg into a bird I summoned - I'm not touching that eagle or the hold-beast that might or might not be its mate - and send my scout forward.

It would be hard to miss the disgusting black-grey mass of the invaders against the fresh fallen snow. The exit they used was pretty high up and now they slid/walked down towards all that was green. Blood Mist is one of the closest holds, making me pretty sure that my tribe did not survive in canon. Still, they were some way away which meant I can go over my plan once again. Not that there really is a plan aside shower them with light, fly and make an epic impression. Mostly though, I need to see where should I put my warding barrier and where to put the anchors.

Yep, I have taken Wardmaker and no way the darkspawn can go through my barrier that is specifically attuned against them. It was really easy to come up with my experience with the light and it was the first ward I created myself. All undead are repelled. It was only the lesser ones at first but I MAXed it in the zombie dungeon. I actually spent my Wardmaker days there, designing wards and using them against the mindless horde while Margit was having fun slaughtering them half a block away.

It was excellent Class leveling since I could just spam as many barriers as I could think of and the zombies would walk into them, suffering their various effects, getting me exp per capita. Which also allowed me to take up yet another Class despite Wardmaker not seeing real action before now.

Enchanter was, is and will be useful. I already have so many ideas. Plus it levels fairly easily – not only coming up with an enchantment and applying it gives exp, the enchantment itself gives me something each time it is 'used'. Like I enchanted Margit's tonfas and then I got exp each time she killed something with it. Minimal gain but continuous. Now, what if I equipped an entire army?

Sure, there are downsides to this. Time first and foremost. Also materials. Enchantments need some more esoteric materials, especially the better ones, but fortunately those have just been added to the pool of dungeon drops. Yay for me.

Naturally I enchanted all my equipment that was allowed to be charmed (already named stuff couldn't) to high heaven and did the same for Margit. Then I just enchanted rubbish stuff I had laying around in Inventory.

With my new equipment, my Stats were looking pretty luxurious and I was still in the beginning of the Class. I'm sure it will only get better.

'Status'

Name: Sofia Vetinari

Level: 27 (66%)

Title: Slayer

Class: Enchanter (Lvl 24)

WIS – 397 (412)

CHA – 179 (189)

LCK – 52,4 (82,4)

Available Stat Points – 110

Oh yeah, with this I can take out any normie. Army of normies. Armies of normies. My only true concern are the likes of Flemeth and Solas, the rest should not pose any threat. Yep, Dragon Age is going to be fun – less like an RPG and more like Civilization III.

I grin, today is the first day of my conquest. Can't wait. This will definitely be a change of pace. Sure I'll continue leveling, but I think the production Classes are the way to go. I won't have any time to disappear into a dungeon all the time, something I'm happy about. They were getting really repetitive, there are only so many times you can kill the dungeon version of All Might and All for One, the twin bosses of the hero dungeon. They were tough at first, but not tough enough.

But hey, at least I got me some rewards out of them – defeating All Might meant I received another title to go with my 'villain' – predictably 'hero'. It did the same thing only in reverse. So bonus when fighting the 'bad guys' and increased rep with the 'good guys'. Not really applicable in this universe but it will come in handy in the future. I also got a ridiculous looking domino mask that increased my VIT by a good chunk for some weird reason. Pity this won't get much use in this universe either. Unless I change personae. Which I could, do some assassinating on the side to smooth over my conquest maybe. Thoughts for the future.

The last reward for All Might was a Skill Book which gave me [Rally], a really good buff that fortunately can be used in tandem with my Light Mage buffs. This reward I will use.

All for One was a really sneaky boss but he couldn't measure up with me. I mean, I just saw my Stats, he didn't stand a chance. He was wily though and I couldn't really brute-force him until I figured him out. He's dead though and with his corpse cooling in the dungeon, I got some more goodies. Goodies indeed since one of the rewards was a Perk to fit with the All for One theme – a little something that gave me a 5% boost when Skill leveling. That was already better than All Might gave me, and that wasn't the end of it either. His [Black Hood], much more wearable than a domino mask, gives +50 to INT, the highest Stat boost I have so far. The Hood and the Mask at least show that this was a bonus dungeon. Anyway, the last boss reward was a plain +5 Stat Points since I already have the villain title.

Still, despite the new favorite headgear I wore my head bare today. Today was all about the show. I even considered changing my hair color to a deep golden blonde for better effect but finally stuck with my chocolate brown with red accents – it took forever to get it right in character creation and I love it.

Anyway, the time for preparation is over. Here comes the Blight.

"Oh my" Margit exhaled beside me, seeing the darkspawn for the first time with her own eyes and her lips curled in disgust. Mine did too, they were really revolting, a sense of wrong all around them. The games did not convey this fully.

"Remember, don't let their blood get you anywhere near the eyes, mouth or any open wound" I caution again.

The soldier very nearly rolls her eyes "So you said when the fist scouts started sniffing around. And you gave me a mask, an enchanted mask now, along with other gear."

I chuckle "I'm surprised you like the mask so much, it was meant to be a joke."

"I am the Hound" Margit shrugged, "It is only fitting my mask should reflect that if I have to use one at all."

"When I take Blacksmith as a Class, I'll make you one better" I promised. This version was blocky and the paint didn't really salvage it much. Once I can do better, I'll make one far superior, something like the traditional kitsune mask.

"As you wish, but I truly like this one. It's… ferocious"

I sigh and shrug, I guess the cobbled up mask done with my Engineer Skills which looked, well, very much not human, will make for a good reception among the Avvar. I'll be the sky-chosen and Margit my faithful hound. An attack dog in more than just name. Ah well, we'll take about it later. And I will be making a pretty mask for her anyway even if she chooses not to wear it.

"When do we intervene?" Margit focuses on the important things.

"I intervene first and then I'll signal you. Sorry, I kind of need the spotlight today" I smile at her sheepishly.

"Spotlight you shall have, I think nobody will miss a flying woman hurling down spears made out of light" the red-head says dryly.

"I was thinking something smaller and more numerous" I grin, "I did promise the augur a rain of light, it's even a named AOE Skill."

"Please don't get killed showing off"

"Please, you saw me in action in the dungeons. And not one of the darkspawn down there can fly, I think that is the sole territory of the archdemon"

"Which is still underground, right?"

"Yep"

"Still, arrows and magic can reach you, be careful"

I'm tempted to scoff and list all the reasons why a few arrows are a non-entity to me, but instead I acquiesce "I'll be careful, I promise. But you must do the same."

"Yes, my lady"

That settled we both fall silent, watching what is happening below. Some sentries of Blood Mist Hold have spotted the darkspawn horde and went running back to report and soon the whole village was alert and rushing towards the wall. Those that would be kept out of the fighting such as the children were swiftly escorted into one of the caves in the mountain towards the highest point of the hold.

"Efficient" Margit commented.

I nod with some satisfaction "Disciplined and well-prepared. And surprisingly not afraid."

"They believe the sky will save them"

"And it will" I say in a reproaching tone, I know Margit isn't all that enthused about portraying myself as the messiah, but it's not like I'll leave them out to dry.

"That is true" Margit inclines her head in what could be constituted a small bow.

"And it will save them sooner than expected since that ogre is still with them" I sigh, the ogre was bad luck. I guess even at LCK 50 some things have to go through. It's not what I wanted but I'll have to roll with it.

The soldier hummed "It will charge right through that palisade."

I nod "Yeah, I'll nail him soon after, can't have my tribe suffer the losses he would wreak. Come, I'll teleport you down. And remember, on my signal."

"Yes, my lady" Margit nods sharply and checks her invisibility.

I make a round trip, the mountain peak giving me the best view and it's just a short flight down. I'm not planning to be up here much longer, the darkspawn are already close enough to be seen by some sharp-eyed hunter up on the walls.

They can be heard too, not that they are particularly loud it's more than the hold's vicinity is now just so damn quiet. Not that I'm blaming my warriors, it truly is a foreboding sight. I just expected more rallying cries and pumped up exclamations. But I guess it is better to be silent and utterly focused than a loud-mouth.

Or is it that they are channeling Naruto's Bloody Mist and their silent killing? That thought makes me chuckle. That would actually be awesome, I do need a good spy and/or assassin. Do not get me wrong, Margit is loyal, has command experience and is smart and pragmatic. A great lieutenant and even better tank. Buuut I wouldn't mind summoning a second servant of a more stealthy persuasion. Or get one here. Surely some Avvar hunter or warrior can be trained up for stealth. With me equipping them, it shouldn't take much.

But enough daydreaming about a ninja servant, I have darkspawn to slaughter and a tribe to save.

To my surprise the ogre is dragging behind, letting the normal troopers go first. To be honest I don't remember how those are called, I only remember the big guy and I'm pretty sure the magic ones are called emissary. Not that I need the proper name to kill them but I guess I should Observe their corpses before we burn them, knowledge is knowledge.

My future subordinates shoot a veritable storm of arrows and they do drop some of the little ones, but the horde advances without even noticing. They just go on, arrows sticking out of them. Durable little bastards.

Agile too, scaling the wooden wall with a single-mindedness so often typical to undead. Those though don't get too far, my warriors killing them and sending them back down. But they still come and come and come, without pause or rest. Soon the hold's warriors will be overrun and the perimeter breached.

Or maybe sooner, yep, the ogre seems to be rearing for a charge. Some other darkspawn are in his way but what do they care about numbers.

Panicked yells of the tribe's fighters are short-lived as the ogre completes his charge. The wall's gate predictably gives out with a deafening crash, taking a whole section of the wall with it. Nearly all warriors fall off, the more fortunate ones landing back onto their courtyard. The others… well, the darkspawn tear them apart in seconds as they screamed horrifically.

Ok, I'm pretty pragmatic, maybe it's the Gamer or maybe it's me, but this I won't ignore. Margit was right, it is a horrible way to die, nothing like the quick and painless death I dispense. No, it's time to fly.

The ogre is right in the middle of the courtyard behind the wall, getting mobbed by the desperate warriors, their spears and swords failing to injure him in any significant way. Not that the ogre tolerates that long – a few warriors he easily tosses some way away, either into the horde or the wooden wall of the hold or the rock one of the mountain, and the rest get mowed over with one mighty spin of his body.

That coincidentally gives me an excellent shot at him with nobody in my way.

Three overpowered spears of light pierce the ogre, impaling him. All of them passing through his tough hide without much resistance, allowing his corpse to stay more or less upright, held by my light.

The warriors pause and look up, relief and awe clear on their distant faces. But the horde did not pause, using the momentary distraction to press forward.

I can't allow that.

Choosing a different Skill I fill the sky with my light, small needles rather than spears. I let them hover only a moment, enough for me to take aim, and then they shoot forward. A single one at first, then a second, then a few of them and then even more. A continuous unrelenting fire, fed by more and more of my mana so that I could get them all. I have mana to spare and I have had enough of the darkspawn sullying my new home.

A loud and excited cheer of the hold's warriors drowns the screeching of the darkspawn, my light hurting them even by sheer proximity. It's pretty glorious even if I do say so myself – I knew the light would affect them but this is a bigger reaction than I got from the zombies. Even Margit's enchanted tonfas, giving them bonus light damage, are horrifyingly effective.

All that and the [Shroud of Light] I have on makes me feel really archangelic. I had considered adding wings at one point when hatching the plan but that seemed like overkill and making me seem less human. And I want to be perceived as human, just… chosen.

"The Sky-Chosen! The Sky-Chosen has saved us!" it starts to echo among the mountains.

And it seems I have succeeded.

The darkspawn are all down so I float down as well. To be sure though I give a mental command to Margit to check all the corpses for any fakers or the injured. I want them all dead.

Even before my feet touch the ground I receive the notification of quest completion.

Quest COMPLETE!

You saved Blood Mist Hold

Award: 500 000 exp, 500 credits, 1 gacha token, unlocked Class [ Sky-Chosen]

Oh? The reward of a Class is pretty humorous. 'Good one, System!'

It really is a good one. The Messiah Class is actually a thing, it just changes name according to the situation

'That's actually really interesting, can't wait to check it out' I say to System before refocusing on the mortal plane so to speak.

"Sky-Chosen" the shouts and cheers quiet down to murmurs and a weighty anticipatory quietness fills the yard.

… Alright, I admit that I'm a little stumped. I kinda forgot to plan this part. I outlined the before and the after but this completely slipped my mind. God, I'm such a dumbass, no matter what the Stats say. Ok, so let's think up something on the spot.

"Sky-Chosen!" the mildly injured augur comes limping towards me, saving me from thinking up on opening line, "Blood Mist Hold owes you a debt that cannot be repaid."

"You owe me nothing" I reply serenely. See, reply I can do just fine.

The augur shook his head "We owe you and the Lady of the Skies. That cannot be denied."

I incline my head in acquiescence. A moment later the eagle that I saw before loudly calls. All of us look up as it circles the hold and flies away. That was a nice touch, or that is what I would say if I had done it with Summoner rather than it happening 'coincidentally'. I definitely have to look up the Lady of the Skies more in-depth.

"Augur!" one of the female hunters interrupts the ensuing silence, "The thane, he's heavily injured. He needs healing."

The augur bows to me and rushes off. Seeing that as an opportunity to endear myself further to the tribe I clear my throat "I can offer some simple healing as well. Let us see to the injured. Hound!"

"My lady?" Margit's voice, a bit strange made by her metallic mask, calls over from the mass of the dead darkspawn.

The Avvar warriors raise their arms again but I stop them with a sharp gesture "She is my Hound."

A murmur of 'yes, my lady' reverberates through the crowd and the weapons are lowered again.

I return my gaze to Margit "If you're done checking the corpses, look for any inured. And you warriors, do the same!"

A scurry of activity springs around me, directing me to the nearest grave case. I have just a basic [Heal] but it works well enough on broken bones and lacerations, even some organ bruising. Bigger things though are still out of my reach since my Skill level is pretty low. But I wager it will go up today.

For those I cannot heal completely I instruct whoever is nearest to send him to the augur to check over, that they need more than I can give at the moment. Nobody disputes my orders and are swift in obeying.

The tribe's children were still hidden in the caves but the elderly and the women that were hiding with them have come down to help with the aftermath, speeding up the healing and cleaning up process considerably.

Margit in the meantime has helped the warriors that were fine to build a big pyre, using the broken wood of the wall as fuel. Once it got going enough they started tossing the tainted corpses of the darkspawn into them. That will be a long process too but the little squad that formed around her were already working on expanding the fire.

Since my healing rounds are more or less complete, I help them out by magically setting fire to the big pile of corpses they amassed near the pyre.

All that is tainted must go, which brings me before an unpleasant situation – some of the injured warriors started showing signs of the taint. Only four that I can see, but their Status Effect is undeniable – Tainted.

The augur catches me looking at them and his brow furrows deeply, a grim determination taking hold. He speaks quietly to the recovering thane and approaches the foursome. I catch up to him quickly.

"Sky-Chosen" he says in a hard tone, the grimness of the situation overcoming his deference, "They cannot be healed and the taint must be purged. They'll understand what must be done."

"I know" I nod, I saw how the foursome was determined, practically waiting only for the last rites, "But I can give them a painless death with only a touch."

The augur hums and ultimately sheathes his dagger "That would be good. I'm sure they will welcome the touch of the chosen of the Lady of the Skies."

We approach the first one, laying against one of the bigger rocks, breathing heavy and skin pale with thin black veins extending form a nasty bite or clawmark to his clavicle. A very young woman was sniffling next to him, talking to him in hushed whispers.

The hopeful look the woman gives me makes me feel truly horrible – not only can I not save him from this state, I let it happen. Poor NPC. I catch her eye and slowly shake my head. The woman breaks into full-fledged sobs.

"Hush, Alara" the injured man says with some difficulty, "It's alright. It is my time and I have proudly served our tribe."

"Father…"

The man gently pats his daughter's hand and he turns his head to meet the augur's gaze chuckling breathily "Vilgun, eh? Never thought you'd be the one to kill me."

Vilgun, the augur, chuckles as well "What can I say, I never liked your jokes."

"Puns are the best and you know it"

"Agree to disagree" the augur gives a strained smile, "I can be the one to end it, or the Sky-Chosen has offered. With a mere touch and not a blade."

The daughter's sobs intensified, another woman coming to her side trying to console her. The injured man once more patted his daughter's hand but his gaze moved to mine "I would be honored."

"Father, you can't just give up, we can…"

"We cannot" the man says with surprising steel despite his injuries, "And Vilgun? Take care of Alara here, will you. Don't let her get stolen by any wimp and don't let her near Olin. Never liked that boy."

"Father!" the now named Alara shriekes and slaps her father's chest, making him laugh.

That soon devolved into a cough. Once that passed he addresses me again "I'm ready. I will rest easy as my tribe and daughter will be protected by one chosen by the Lady, that is truly the greatest gift one can receive before their death."

I nod and gently touch his shoulder despite it being wholly unnecessary "I will protect the tribe. All the tribes. You need not worry."

The man dies with a smile on his face. That makes me feel a little better.

Me and the augur leave the body of his friend in the care of his daughter to attend to the other tainted. All of them accepting death easily, all too easily, and give me Stats. I actually did not use [Stat Steal] because of my usual greed but rather that it indeed looks a bit better than [Grasp Heart] or [Telekinetic Snap]. At least this way allowed for that final smile.

The augur also takes the time to finally introduce himself to me as we walk towards the thane that was directing the works despite still being quite pale and clearly not fully healed.

"My thane," the augur says as soon as his chief sent one of the warriors off with further instructions, "The Sky-Chosen, just as the Lady showed me."

"I see her, Vilgun," the thane sighs, visibly trying to temp down his irritation with the elder, "I thank you for saving us. I would bow but my ribs might just try to kill me if I did. I am Varl, thane of Blood Mist Hold. Do you have a name, Sky-Chosen?"

I chuckle, breaking my mask of serenity, I like this man "Sofia."

The augur seemes scandalized that the Sky-Chosen might actually have a name. But then again, he is a zealot and those tend to have a one-track mind. The thane though, is much more pragmatic and down-to-earth.

"Sofia?" Varl humms, "That sounds Tevinter."

Does it? Huh, maybe it does. Anyway, I shrug "I am not of Tevinter."

"Of course not!" the augur huffs.

"Peace, Vilgun" both me and Varl say in unison.

The thane shakes of his surprise at my words and continues "You have my eternal gratitude Sofia Sky-Chosen. Had you not come, this hold would be no more than rubble and bodies."

"That darkspawn cannot take Avvar land" I declare.

Both Varl and Vilgun, huh, same letter, look to me in surprise. The augur starts to grin, a grin a little on the less sane side, while Varl's brow furrows in confusion "All Avvar lands?"

"You would see the other tribes overrun, joining the ranks of the tainted?" I cock my head to the side.

"Of course not" Varl shakes his head, "Do you mean to leave then?"

"Not if you help me"

Vilgun's grin widens "Uniting the tribes, you wish to unite the tribes."

"Against an enemy such as the darkspawn the Avvar need to stand united or the Blight will overtake them" I dramaticize. I know that they survive just fine just as Ferelden. Ok, not fine, they do survive though.

The augur is still grinning, clearly approving of my campaign, but Varl is still digesting the news. I stay silent, giving them time to think.

Since nobody was speaking, Margit takes the time to approach us "My lady, we have gathered all the darkspawn corpses for them to be set on fire. The warriors are making separate arrangements for their fallen brethren but those need to be burned as well."

"I'll take care of the darkspawn bodies" I nod at her, "Thank you, Hound." Margit bows and steps a little to the side, her job completed she resumed her usual bodyguarding position. I smile at her and return my gaze to the two leaders of the hold "What of the fallen warriors?"

The augur's grin dropped "I'll speak with Elida, there is precedent from the previous Blights. The bodies will be burned."

Varl nodded "Thank you." Once the older man left, he sighed "So many lost, but we knew that. And not as many as it could've been. All of us in all probability. I heard the stories and the legends, but to see all this with my own eyes…"

"You were just the first hold in their path," I speak up, "And more will still come. I can ward land so that the darkspawn cannot set foot into it but the irregular terrain of the Forstbacks makes it difficult to do in places bigger than a village."

"So if I let some warriors to go with you, Blood Mist Hold will still be protected?" the thane asks searchingly.

"It will"

Varl sighs "I warned a few holds we are friendly with, but I don't know if they took precautions. Very well, if it is the will of the Lady of the Skies, I will send my men with you. You are right, darkspawn endanger all, even the land itself."

Seeing the look at the ground near the pyres that will take a long time to recover once we burn all the tainted grass, I bend down to take some dirt into my palm. With Mokuton I easily make a single weed sprout out of it.

"Amazing, you are truly blessed by the Gods" Varl exclaims, "New life…"

I smile "The land will survive, as will the people."

"Blood Mist Hold is yours, we will follow you against the Blight, Sky-Chosen" Varl announces and I see how his thoughts shift to true worship. Excellent.

"I will take care of the corpses. In the meantime if you could ask for volunteers to help me in my mission?"

"It will be done"

"Hound" I turn to Margit, "Take command of them and look that they are prepared and equipped."

"Yes, my lady" the red-head nods sharply.

Varl nods as well "Come with me then. Hound, was it?"

After my Blood-Mist Hold three other holds were in immediate danger from the darkspawn. This first contingent of the Blight had split four ways and I only got one of them so far. The other holds were further than mine so I hoped to arrive in time to save them all.

Swift-Wolf Hold, Razor-Claw Hold and Night-Hunter Hold were in imminent danger yet I opted out of flying there. Instead I went with the beginning of my army, a squad of twelve warriors from Blood Mist. Or well, people. But almost every Avvar is a handy with a weapon so it probably counts. My hesitation to label them all warriors outright is due to Karst Gurdsen, a very excitable skald who insisted on coming along to document our journey and battles. At least he left his instrument at home and exchanged it for a bow. He still would not shut up though.

We made all haste, going where my feathered scouts reported closest darkspawn. I went there full archangel of light while my squad under Margit's direction attacked from the ground, blocking any escape route the darkspawn might've wanted to take. Both their weapons and their armor were glowing, imbued by my light, and I buffed them with all I could – I didn't want even one single scratch on my new brand warriors and I wanted them to know that was thanks to me.

My 'blessing' brought the morale through the roof but that plummeted again when we saw we were too late. Most of Swift-Wolf was razed to the ground and only a pocket of warriors was still standing, protecting an even smaller huddle of desperate civilians trying to aim a bow at the enemy.

We dispatched them fairly quickly, I did my bombardment and Margit went for those closest to the remnants of the new tribe while Blood-Mist warriors took out the stragglers.

I healed who I could and sent most of them back to Blood-Mist with one of my warriors. My squad did not diminish though, instead it grew as some of the survivors were eager for revenge.

We continued without delay, hoping to find the next hold still standing and strong. And we were fortunate as the darkspawn assault just started when we arrived. Again we killed all of them and again my squad grew. With the hold intact this time I proposed talks of an alliance against the darkspawn, to be discussed with the thanes and left them to contact Blood-Mist on their own.

Again we continued onwards. And onwards. Soon our expedition had all the marks of a full blown crusade, a quest to eradicate all evil. I could hear it in the minds of my warriors and out loud when we camped at night. They were all determined and eager, they wanted the darkspawn out of their lands and preferably all dead. We usually rested only a few hours, everybody feeling that haste was absolutely crucial. And it paid off since we mostly prevented full-out slaughters. And each time, my army grew.

Still, there were so many holds and tribes. Most scattered around the Basin, keeping to the mountains, making the trek difficult despite all being used to it.

I offered to ward every hold we visited but I also warned them that I cannot do more, that a flat open wide surface was ok but the mountains limit that a lot. Also, that I cannot guarantee the darkspawn won't cause another cave in and form an exit inside the barrier I put up. That naturally cause quite a bit of talk about abandoning the holds and regrouping in the Basin as well as calling a meeting of the Avvar tribes, something that happened last during the fourth blight an era ago.

I miiigh've nudged things in that direction, I admit. I also started working on the idea of descending to the Lowlands to get more space, after all, the tribes were numerous and most of them didn't get along all that well. Besides, the more militant ones practically jumped on my nudge and started talking invasion and expansion.

Of course a good half of the tribes was against that, especially after I showed I could purify the land and regrow it with mokuton. That was a big hit, just as much as my light actually. But I did some telepathic work and since my reputation was soaring, my opinion held quite a lot of weight if not outright worship in some instances.

By now I was Fia Sky-Chosen and was sent to end the darkspawn threat by the Lady of the Skies. Not Sofia, I didn't really care though Margit was offended on my behalf, but I guess it sounded more Avvar. In that vein I got to carry that war paint I liked in the game - one of the warrior women from Swift-Wolf hold, a really stern mother of two, all three of them tough as nails, helped me put it on as well as doing the design. Minimalist but I thought it very cool.

On the other hand Margit was still only known as Hound, and she liked it that way. People asked her name but she stuck with Hound to my amusement and surprise. She did take her mask off in camp at least, but I kinda suspected she only did that because of the food.

That was actually a little unfortunate since Margit slept in my tent, taking her position as my guard really seriously, so there was talk of me sleeping with my Hound. Which sounds really bad to an outsider, I can practically hear the Chantry using that against me. To be honest it would be far more worth it if it was actually true, which it unfortunately wasn't. Not yet, I was an optimist. But right now she was only a very comfortable pillow and bed-warmer in these cold late summer months in the Frostbacks.

The battle of Ostagar came and went while I was campaigning in the mountains. So far everything was going according to Origins – king Cailan was dead, Loghain was in control, the wardens were all killed but two. The Warden's party has been assembled just right too – Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana and Sten so far. The Warden herself was a geeky Circle mage, at least at first glance.

These protagonists I do want to meet, I didn't care about HotD or BokuHero all that much, but those I really want. Maybe when they trek to Heaven. Or to Flemeth's hut. We'll see how it goes, right now they are nowhere near my mountains.

Not that I plan to stay in said mountains for all that long, the council of thanes has been called now that the darkspawn are more or less in check. My company still has some land to cover and kick the Blighted creatures out of, but by the looks of it, no big darkspawn incursion was imminent. It looks like they just sent that first wave and expected it to work and employed most of their manpower elsewhere. Maybe they even got scared of my light.

Anyway, the Frostback Basin is a relatively small area but I think we cleaned it up quite efficiently and with great speed. It helped that my army was completely loyal to me by now, even more than to their thanes, something I worked at. I'm sure they will follow me to Ferelden along with the more militant tribes. I would not mind a minor split, leaving the civilians behind in the Basin while I clean up the Korkari Wilds and most of the Hinterlands.

I thought of introducing Skyhold to the Avvar but ultimately decided against it, I'll keep it for when we will confront Orlais, right now the Avvar want hunting grounds, not fortresses.

Ostagar though, Ostagar I will take. It might be Tevinter in origin but in the game it looked like a good defensible position even though its days of glory were long long long past. Maybe I could restore it when my population grows and I get some more variety. Stereotypes aside, dwarves would be best for that. But I'll take the Chasind, unite them under my banner together with the Avvar and reform the Alamarri tribes.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Fist come the Avvar and for that I need that summit. Only after that I can proudly tell I have a people.

I have to tip my hat to Varl and Vilgun. I mean I have put them more or less in charge of getting in touch with all the thanes and organizing this little summit, but I never expected them to be so successful. For one I expected it would be held in a neutral territory, but those two somehow managed to drag everybody to Blood Mist. Sure, their entourages, and in some cases the whole tribe, was camping at the foot of the mountain but the thanes all went up the mountain for the council.

More than thirty thanes, and that is keeping in mind that some were dead and their tribes wanted a say too, all of them with strong opinions and a fierce protectiveness of their own tribes. Worse than herding cats it was but Varl and Vilgun managed exceptionally well.

The cult around me has also grown, the army was a done deal, but Vilgun has worked on the first impressions I gave to all the holds and spoke of his visions, cementing my status as the chosen one in the minds of many. The Spirits, the Gods, none spoke up against me through the other augurs so I was in the clear there too. To be honest I expected more opposition but I guess even the spirits wanted the Taint contained.

But that said, the summit was still a nightmare.

"It's darkspawn land now! It belongs to them, no one else. We take it, it's ours. That is how it's always been" one of the thanes declares loudly and brings his fist onto the handle of his chair.

"It's Fereldan land and you know it!" one of the pacifist fires back. I long lost sight of who was who, deciding that Observe would prop me up when needed. Let's call this one number 2.

"And it was ours before that" number 3 argued.

Number 4 sighed in frustration "Ours and the Chasind who still dwell there."

Number 5 snickered "Not now they aren't."

Number 1 jumped on that "Exactly that! The Sky-Chosen wants to retake these lands, me and my tribe will be right with her!"

"And most of my warriors since now they won't listen to me or reason" number 6 rubs his brow.

His neighbor snorts "You being a weak leader has nothing to do with our discussion."

Number 6 half-rises from his seat to snarl at the woman sitting to the left of him "I'll show you weak, you…"

Varl's voice bellows over the whole room "Enough, there will be no violence here, this is sacred land!"

His proclamation is met with nods and silence. It's a new thane, number 8, that refocuses the conversation "Our old thane, my father, is dead, our hold-beast is dead and our hold is no more. We will have our revenge on the darkspawn and will kill any and all of them! We will reclaim our honor! We leave for the lowlands under the command of the Sky-Chosen."

Number 2 nodded with a wide smile "Agreed, Stone-Fire Hold marches as well, the gods will it. Let the Lady of the Skies protect us, the Mountain Father give us courage and Hakkon sharpen our blades!"

The pacifist wing once more spoke up, number 4 shaking her head "The Sky-Chosen can regrow what the darkspawn damaged, there is no need to provoke the horde, or the Fereldans for that matter."

"Coward!" shouted number 9. Which naturally sparked another argument between all. Not even the number could keep that discussion organized in my head.

The arguments went on and on and on. I let them, after all I can see I will be getting what I want in the end, it is only a matter of numbers and logistics now. Me and my army will descend the mountains and purify the lands below. We will take that land and it will be ours by rights.

Besides, not just the army will go, many of the tribes were a done deal from what I can hear here and that is hardly all. Even now that weedy little excitable skald of Blood Mist is singing of my deeds and growing my legend among those that camped below the mountain. Many will be tempted or just go right with me.

It was Varl's voice that brought me back to the 'conversation'. That voice was strong but a clear tiredness seeped in as he tried to adjourn the meeting, "Let us speak more on the morrow."

There were murmurs of agreement from many of the thanes and even more nods.

Number 2 though disagreed "Not yet. The Sky-Chosen has yet to speak."

Another thane jumped on that "Indeed! Please, Sky-Chosen."

I straightened up in my own fancy chair and set my countenance to serious "I have not spoken because I have made my intentions clear. The darkspawn do not belong in our world and must be cast out of the surface. Let them return to their darkness and never let them see the sky. And thane Rost (number 2, thanks Observe) speaks truly, the darkspawn captured the lowlands and therefore it is theirs. When we purge them from this world, that land will belong to us. It will be our efforts, our might that takes that land back from the taint, I will be the one purifying it and making it grow again. Why should we give it back to those that have not managed to keep it? Did their Maker help save it from darkness? He did not, it is his actions that caused it in the first place. Darkspawn are an abomination under the skies and for that I will march, I will march to the lowlands and destroy the filth that is amassed there."

"Well said!" number two grinned widely.

Another thane wasn't far behind "The Lady of the Skies wills it!"

The sounds of agreements were louder this time, the pacific wing though stayed mostly silent, looking at each other. My guess was that there will be some informal talks and alliances being made during dinner and the matter might even be somewhat decided tomorrow.

Varl proposed dinner once more and this time the thanes agreed easily and started to disperse. I could already see huddles forming. Varl looked like he wanted to talk to me but he was swiftly enveloped by many of his peers. Since that looked as a long debate, I decided to leave for food and check out the camp below. If need be, he can find me there.

"How did it go?" Margit fell into step with me.

"Well, pretty much as expected"

"Timeline?"

I shrug "I don't know. I have a hunch the thanes will decide what they want to do by tomorrow but anything further than that is in the air."

"I think it will be rather quick," the red-head hummed, "A lot of the tribes have camped here long enough and will want to go soon."

"Not enjoying their stay?"

"Some do, some don't" Margit shrugged, "Most do though, you've see the celebrations and rites every evening we've been back. And there is…"

"Sky-Chosen!" a harried voice sounds behind me. I turn to see the thane that said his people won't listen to him anymore because of me, "Could we talk?"

"Perhaps after dinner, I'm famished" I withhold my sigh.

"Maybe over dinner then?" he insisted.

"Very well" my sigh escapes this time. But I guess I can take the opportunity to change his mind. Both literally and figuratively.

While the thane starts talking my ear off, Margit leaves with a small bow and goes fetch us that meal. Only half-listening to the man's platitudes and hippie thoughts I focus more onto my Mind Mage Skills. By the time dinner is over, he is still hesitant but won't cause me any trouble. Might even step down as thane, if there is such a possibility in the Avvar culture, and let someone more militant take his place.

Two more thanes approach me during the meal but seeing my firm stance against their colleague, they leave without saying much and joining some more like-minded leaders. One militant thane approaches as well but leaves soon enough when I chastise him about starting arguments.

Politics is exhausting. But not even half as much as it would be without Mind Mage. I love that Class, much better than any pure damage Class. To think I had been tempted by the Elementalist, even though explosions are cool.

"Sky-Chosen! This is my baby son, will you bless him?" a random woman with a bundle in her arms approaches me.

Being a religious figure is hard too.

"But of course" I smile, looking into the mother's mind to see what precisely she is expecting of me since I have only a vague idea.

A few more blessings and one heal and I was able to make my escape from the adoring crowds. Margit downright smirks at me when I do that. But I guess I did choose this life very deliberately. That said, slight annoyance aside, I'm very much not regretting my choice. Heck, I love walking among my army and feel their gazes on me, feel their thoughts. What is a few politicians, I do some hand-holding and they practically sign their people over to me. Just as well, I want a united nation, not a bickering council of so many people. But that will come in time, I just have to select my advisors very carefully and delegate even more carefully. Which shouldn't be too much trouble with Mind Mage.

Speaking of neat Classes, I am looking forward to Sky Chosen. I couldn't even check it out yet, only when I finish Enchanter. But that one is going very well indeed. I am pretty close to done actually – every night during my campaign I would enchant one person's entire gear and weapons which also meant every time it was used I got exp. So yeah, very nearly done. I even took the time to enchant Karst's, the skald, instrument for more durability. And easier cleaning. Yes, I did invent an enchantment for that, I don't like stains on my gear and dirt gets into uncomfortable places.

In that vein I had Margit bring me another soldier of my army so that I could do my enchanting thing. Everybody at the army camp knew this routine and while nobody was begging, there was a definite line. I still used all the buffs when I led them into battle but everybody wanted that blessing permanent. And boy, did they strut around the place once they got it. And not only because the minor loyalty compulsion enchantment, that was just icing on the cake. I had it, so why not use it.

Once I was done enchanting, Margit asked "Will you be joining the party?"

I think about it but shake my head "No, I'm not in the mood. The thane council made me tired, listening to all that shouting. I think I'll turn in right away actually."

"I can imagine" the red-head nodded sharply and followed me back up to Blood Mist Hold proper where I had my quarters.

"You can stay, you know" I remind my servant.

"I am your guard. And I don't like crowds"

"You want to cuddle with me instead? I'll take it"

"That's not what I meant exactly, my lady, I…"

"I know, just teasing you. But I like it so no objections here"

"My lady!"

"But you know I can see you blushing even under that mask, right?"

"You must've seen wrong!"

"Right…"

Next day

Today it was a bit harder keeping that calm poker face on during the thanes' meeting as it was both a lot more boring than yesterday and way more exciting. Exciting because I was getting it my way and boring that the main talk was logistics I didn't really care about.

The talks were swifter – two distinctive camps formed overnight, even though there were radicals and moderated all through the spectrum, and one thing was already tacitly agreed on – I got wish and I got my people. Now it was only the matter of which tribes go where, will they all stick together through the Blight or not, who leads the leaderless holds, stuff like that.

I made clear that Varl, the thane of Blood Mist, has my full support in these talks – thanks to my Skills I knew him very well by now and he had a good head for both logistics and diplomacy. And he knew when to crack skulls instead. Three other thanes got my support since their ideas were very good and they were actually trying to solve problems rather than just complain about people and territory.

My army though, my army was pretty much set. The warriors I was campaigning with, from the first ones to the very last, were going to Ferelden with me. As were eleven other tribes – I practically usurped the leadership of Swift-Wolf, the one hold that got pretty much destroyed, and there was talk of making me official thane of it. The other six wanted to go with me either for religious reasons or conquest reasons. Some more tribes were still hesitant but agreeable enough. My guess was they would join once we got the foothold down there.

The other tribes, the ones that declared the intention to stay, didn't interest me as much. They will come around sooner or later. Plus I already leeched a good chunk of warriors from them, and their families sure won't stay behind.

In an interesting turn of events Blood Mist Hold offered to act as a border fortress of sorts. I liked the idea actually, especially since they would keep an eye on the events in the Basin. And be a good anchor to the Mountain Father. Anyway that meant they would grow and they would fortify the place further. The man-power was pretty easy to find right now and I plan on helping with mokuton. Something fireproof and sturdy, easy peasy for Hashirama's heir.

Still, the talks were going very well indeed but it was only around dinner that they wound down. Truces were made and feuds suspended, even though some required a duel of sorts, champion against champion competing in various trials. That was what took most time actually. Still, the result is promising. The Avvar tribes were not one big happy family but it still is more than many countries could say. Even if a lot of that hinged on me and my chosen one status.

For me, it was a resounding victory. I could barely keep my smile modest when I made my speech again at the end of the meeting.

I've got it, I've got my backing and it is time for conquest and to shake thing up for Thedas.

"My lady?" Margit was again the first to meet me outside.

I grin "The thanes agree to follow me and work together while during the Blight. I'll tell you the rest later. Right now I'm in the mood for some chocolate cake from my Inventory."

"To the house then" the red-head's eyes glinted. Or, I'm sure they have, not that I can actually see them and it is not something I can determine with Mind Mage. She is amused though, that I can tell. And wants a slice herself.

I politely decline to talk to people that approach me, except yet another baby blessing, and return to our cabin. Margit closes the door and takes off her mask, eagerly sitting at the desk.

With a chuckle I do the same and withdraw two slices of decadently chocolate on chocolate cake. And that first bite is true bliss. And it got even better as System chose this moment to notify me.

Quest COMPLETE!

You united the Avvar tribes

Award: 1 000 000 exp, 1000 credits, Item [ Leader ' s Paint ] , 1 gacha token

YOU HAVE LEVELED UP!

Margit looked up from her dessert, sensing something as happening, but returned to it when she correctly guessed I was interacting with System.

And there was quite a bit to unpack there. And I think I'll start form the bottom this time.

Fist, leveling up, awesome. I was waiting on that for quite a bit. Although mostly for the higher number, it looked good. Even if it only is 28, leveling is a bigger bitch than expected. Plus the 5 SP I get are always welcome, especially since I pretty much only use them for LCK. And I guess I was looking forward to getting anew dungeon at 30, if the pattern holds.

Onto the rewards! I love rewards. The Credits, always welcome, as is the gacha. I hope I get something immediately useful this time, for rescuing Blood Mist quest I spun the gacha for a vial of [Basilisk Venom (Harry Potter)]. It's nice, but not immediately useful. Hopefully this one will be. But that can wait, I might add some points into LCK before that, I'll have to think about it.

[Leader's Paint] is to my relief a reusable item, more of a mask than paint to be honest. That suits me since using that +30 CHA and +5 LCK only once would be a shame. And would surely sit in my Inventory forever just like health potions…

This brings me to the last point of the notification, something slightly negative this time. I kinda expected to fulfill my winning condition with this. Or at least that was what I thought at first, and then this quest formed up. Seems to me I need something more to complete the 'rule a nation'. I guess what I have is not a nation yet… but sure soon will be! I wager a name would help, but that is way too soon.

I sigh – yeah, I guess System got it right, my little fledgling empire is not a nation yet.

I never make mistakes

'Don't get your imaginary panties in a twist, darling, I just agreed with you'

Humph

Ah well, not that I am in any hurry. I'm in it pretty much for the Credits. And the World Jump, but that one will go into Inventory for now. I definitely plan on staying here and take another winning condition. I did it this way only because it's a good way to stock up on Credits. And emergency reality jumping, just in case.

"Will you be finishing your piece?" Margit interrupts my thoughts as her fork motions towards my plate.

I bring the plate closer to myself in alarm "Of course I will, that's why I pulled it out of Inventory!"

"Just asking" the red-head defended.

I guess I do need to put my priorities straight – chocolate cake first, grand plans later.

Mmmmmmm. So good.

Hey, I wonder where do they get chocolate in Thedas. I know for sure Orlais eats the stuff. Might want to conquer cocoa fields as a matter of priority…

Notes:

AN: So, this is the first chapter of Dragon Age, hope you liked it. As you might've guessed, we'll be staying here a while though Sofia will be taking a short "vacation" in another universe before returning back here as DA will be her base of operations. While the vacation is already decided (and I'm quite sure it will be a very popular choice) I'm starting to take suggestions on where to visit next, so comment or PM me about it. Can't wait to read your ideas!

Till next time!
