CHAPTER 11: Farming Assistance

Zero's Point Of View

Four days have passed when I started to train Eugene in swordmanship. In this past days she has imploved her stamina, agility and reflexes. A definitely rare improvement for just a girl that age. "So, I was thinking to give you a break in your training". I said to her that make her pout. "But, the thing is I was just running the whole time, I don't know if I really did somehow became strong". She says in disagreement to my decision. "You definitely became strong want to test?". I said that she nod obediently. "Then, dogde these". I said and threw 30 stones at her simultaneously. "Ehhh? That's too much". She said but then her body move on its own bending herself like nothing. So I threw another batch of stones and she unconsciously evaded them by facing her rigth side and moving her upper body in a forward and backward motion. Upon realizing it she was so surprised at the moment and look at me with teary eyes. "See, I told you so just rest your body this day to replenish your muscles strength". I said to her but then she insisted on working hard today. "Well if you're that so determined then, Shall we go in the field to see how was the villagers been doing". I said then she became so excited with her eyes sparkling says. "Yes". Then after a moment of walking we were greeted by Grandpa Martin. "So did the tilling work has progressed?". I asked. "Yes but the thing is that this land wasn't producing good soil for planting". Grandpa Martin says to me that made me think of something. " Don't worry that much we will be making compost". I said but they seemed so clueless. "Zero what is a compost?". Eugene asked that made it clear that they didn't know the existence of it. "Compost is a component of different biodegradable materials like vagetable skins, wasted uneaten fruit chunk and other waste that will rot for just a number of days". I explained to them because other villager became interested. "So can you do me a favor to collect those items I just stated?". I said asa favor and they gradually collected a bunch of those. "So what would we do now that we gather these?". Grandpa Martin says. "Its easy, We will just burry this in a area with dirt and leave it thereto rot for several days, then because they rot they'll eventually mix with the soil and that soil is the compost filled with the minerals of those waste that we will mix in the feilds". I said that made them unsure that's to be expected. "That's a very unique thinking but is it really a very reliable method since it look like a disgusting if you imagine it?". One of the villagers asked. "It may seem so gross to think but it is a reliable method and those waste would eventually transforms into dirt because it will lose their nutrients that passed unto the soil". I explained that made a convincing statement unto them. So we dig up a space and place the biodigrables in there then bury them. Even though I can make it faster by using magic I just wanted to show them the process so that they can make it. "So that settles the soil problem by creating a compost". I said that made them assured for the future. "By the way Chief, even if we have a way to fertile the soil now, It will be meaningless if those plants were eaten by a swarm of pest". A elderly woman said as a reminder to Grandpa Martin. "Well thank you Eveline for reminding that factor to us?". Grandpa Martin says thanking her. "Then,what should we do?". He muttered asking for opinion. "If we can just have more number of Guardian Frogs". Grandma Eveline says that made me interested. "Guardian frog?". I said in curiosity and Grandpa Martin answered. "It is a monster frog that can be tamed and be used to guard your plant because of eating pest". "Then, just tame them then". I said to them that made them so surprised. "It would be easy but raising them is the difficult matter since there is no guarantee if they'll because of Raven Crows eating them upon birth and leave when they know someone was coming there is only a pair of them here, If we somehow managed to reproduce and increase their number it will be a helpful existence". Grandma Eveline explained making it out for me to pin out the solution. "Then we will make a Scarecrow to repel those Raven Crows". I suggested that they were so confused. "What was that Scarecrow thing you were saying?". One of the villagers said. "Let's see can you give clothes you werent using anymore and a farming hat and straw?". I ordered and then one of gave a ragged sweater, a tattered hat and a bunch of straws. Then upon recing them I formed a head like shape from the straws placing it at the sticks I assembled earlier in a cross form and then put the clothes and hat on it. "What's the use of this?". Eugene asked at me. "Well it was a figurine to scare those birds since Grandma says that they'll leave upon seeing a person so if their is a human-like figure standing at the place you were keeping the tadpoles then they'll leave immediately". I explained to them giving an impression that they can agree with me. "Then, wouldn't it be more effective if we did a more realistic figurine?". Eugene suggested that made the others agree. "That might have been true but, if we make it so realistic it might catch an attention and be stolen so the effort would be meaningless so instead of thst making a figurine this simple would be safer". I said to clear the concept. "And if a greedy noble heard of a thing like that realistic figurine, the maker would be in a great danger because they'll use authority to restrain them and made a profit by forsing the maker to make a lot of copies". I said that made them understand the consequence of a single innovative item. "Yes, you're right, its a troublesome outcome if U think so for myself if I was the one in that situation". A villager said with an earnest understanding. "Well for now we'll just make some of the Scarecrow to scatter in the field since those Crows also feed into grains So can you help me as well?". I said to them and the cooperatively says. "YES!".
