Things had been awkward since the kiss. A fake kiss but still a kiss. Tucker had been reminding them of it since he found out. Sam hadn't been able to look him in the eye since, was she blushing?
He and Sam had been friends for a long time now, he knew she was a girl but never really saw her like that. Since the kiss thought it had been hard not to notice, everything about her seemed different to him now, she was beautiful, he knew that but saw her differently now.
All this time he had been so focused on Paulina that he didn't see what was right in front of him.
The next day at school he saw Sam at her locker, this would be the day. He was gonna talk to her about the kiss, maybe she was thinking the same thing as him.
'Hey Sam, what's up?'
'Danny, hey not much! Just worrying about this quiz, we have first lesson.' She stumbled over her words a bit, a cute habit she had.
'Yeah…' he took her in, her appearance, the way she played with hair and fumbled around in her locker.
'Danny? Are you okay?' a faint blush was on her cheeks as she spoke.
'Huh? Oh! Yeah, no I'm fine! Sorry just in my own world you know!' he laughed awkwardly, gaining an awkward laugh in return.
'Hey, can I ask you something?' Sam turned, her attention now on him fully, again another blush? Or was it just wishful thinking?
'You know that fake kiss we had? I know Tucker keeps bringing it up and all, was it maybe something more than that?' he scratched the back of his head, blushing himself but trying to keep a straight face.
Sam's face became even redder, he could see all the thoughts going through her head as she fumbled with an answer.
'Of course not! I mean we've been friends for years; it was just a fake-out make-out, right?' she laughed awkward, locking eyes with Danny, an almost hopeful look in them.
'Oh… yeah I suppose, sorry I guess Tucker just got in my head about things.' He could hear the disappointment in his voice, a dejected look on Sam's face in return.
She went to open her mouth, to speak again, stirring hope in Danny. 'Hey guys! How are my two lovebirds this morning!'
Tucker had arrived, wrapping his arms around the two of them. A blush heavy on both their cheeks.
'We're not lovebirds! Just friends!' Sam's usual response, though this time cutting to him. He looked at Sam, locking eyes once more before turning away, she mimicked his response.
Just friends. Oh well.
