Chapter 35: Keep your chin up
Sol, Felicity, and Peppi sat at their usual table with their heads cast down. The defeat had pushed them all to the emotional brink. For a brief time they had let themselves believe this could be over in a series of easy victories, now some of them secretly wondered if victory was possible at all.
Sol dwelled on his role in the matter as he ignored his lunch, an increasingly common habit. Peppi, as usual, stole pieces when he wasn't looking. Some days she acted more like a vulture than a phoenix. Sol only pretended to care. The food was probably going into the trash anyway. He was too ashamed to eat.
He was supposed to be the 'healer' of their team. In the end they had to rely on vampire blood to keep him and Viv from who knew what horrid end. They had been invincible for a short period of time, now they were mortal and marked by powerful enemies. Sol forced at least one bite down.
