Chapter 6

Getting up for work on Monday proved to be harder than usual even though I had spent most of the Sunday sleeping.

Even my high sugar consumption did not help in waking me up completely.

I was walking while trying to rub the sleep out of my eyes when suddenly I bumped into something.

I stumbled back and saw that it was a stubby, old lady who was looking at me with a dangerously angry frown on her face.

"I am sorry ma'am. I couldn't see you.", I apologized.

The old lady screamed, "Perverts like you see nothing whenever they find a lady."

"Eh...Ma'am, I said I am sorry, I couldn't see you." I repeated, shocked by what she said.

"Don't you argue with me, young man", she threatened as she stepped forward towards me, while I took several steps backward. "I know the intentions of men like you. No respect for ladies at all. No respect for their age either. Men like you deserve nothing but constant beating every time they assault a woman,"

That woman certainly had some issues. Not only was she unnecessarily creating a scene in the morning, but she was also attracting some bystanders who were watching the whole ordeal like some drama show.

"Listen, lady," I tried to convince her. "I have already apologized to you for bumping and I didn't even do it intentionally. If I was to bump into some woman purposefully it would have been a beautiful young woman, not some fat old hag like you."

I regretted those words instantly they came out of my mouth.

The old woman's face contorted from disgust to unmeasurable rage.

She shouted," WHAT DID YOU SAY, YOU PERVERT?"

And swung her huge bag at me.

I took her hit with full force on my left elbow and ran like my life depended on it.

As I ran, I could still hear the lady throwing curses at me on top of her voice.

..................................

I reached the office earlier than usual. Probably because I had covered about half the distance by running.

I had only settled and started the work when I saw a hand with long red nails on my desk.

I looked up and saw that it was the same girl gorilla-man had warned me to stay away from.

She was leaning on the desk with one hand on her waist, a posse which some would think to be seductive but to me, it looked like she was suffering from back and shoulder pain. Also, her perfume was nauseating.

"Hi", she chirped in a ridiculously high voice. "I'm Isabella."

"And I am Drake", I stated while plastering a fake smile on my face.

"Well, I already know your name. But didn't you know mine?", she asked.

"I couldn't recognize you with all the glowing modifications on your face", I replied intending to annoy her.

But looked like she felt the exact opposite.

She gave a small laugh and said: "You are quite funny; did you know that?"

"How could I not know?", I replied. "After all my whole life is a joke?"

Why was this conversation taking a dark turn already?

She leaned even more on the desk, tilted her head to one side, and said, "You've been working here for quite a while, haven't you?"

"Three months is not a quite long period", I said.

She tilted her head on the other side and said with a dramatically high-pitched sympathetic voice, "You had to spend these three months all alone. You don't talk to anyone in the office. Above all, you don't go out with your friends much."

"How did you know that?", I asked rather suspiciously.

Please don't be a creepy stalker.

"I saw your profile on Facebook," she stated in a quite obvious tone.

She is a creepy stalker. Wait, What? Facebook?

"We are friends on Facebook?", I inquired, just a little bit shocked.

"Yes"

"Oh"

I need to check the friend requests from now on, I thought.

"So you don't socialize much, do you?", she asked.

"Oh no. I don't."

"Then you must get quite lonely", she said as she leaned closer.

"No, not really", I said.

Didn't this girl have work to do? Why was she bothering me unnecessarily? Why is leaning in so much? I should have had that garlic bread. Is that bread still edible after a week?

She leaned even closer and said slowly in a low voice, "Anyway, if you need something you can always call me. Anytime......for anything you want."

I got closer to her ear and whispered, "I......am not interested in a woman who doesn’t know simple workplace ethics."

That was an insult. Please leave now.

Her body became visibly stiff and she stood up. Her whole face was red from anger and a tinge of embarrassment. She stomped her heels hard enough to break them (but it did not, which was disappointing) and walked off.

"Way to impress a woman with your words, man", said the guy sitting on my left, with an amused look on his face.

"That is my secret special talent", I said, while turning around to continue with my work.

Why does every woman I meet end up hating me?
