Chapter 8 - Combat Class

It was late at night, while most first year students were busy sleeping or arranging their things, I was awake planning my survival.

I had already settled in in the after noon. I had my stuff that was in the condo brought to my dorm room.

The room itself was quite spacious, with a separate toilet and bathroom.

They also had hot water running.

The bed was close to the wall opposite the window, while the toilet and bathroom doors were quite close to it.

After arranging everything, I took out a pen and paper among my things and proceeded to write my plans down for the future.

First: Find the ART OF CREATION.

Second: Survive the bloody halloween.

Third: Reach [E-] rank by the end of the year.

For now these are my priority goals. Today's date is July 1st. Okay so I have about four months before the bloody halloween happens.

The 'Bloody Halloween'. October 31st. In this world, because of the war between the races, halloween hasn't really been celebrated.

Since year 50AC when the other races invaded, humans haven't really had the leeway or time to celebrate halloween.

But this year, the academy decided to host a halloween party for the first years seeing as this batch of first years had some of the greatest talents humanity has seen, and also to ease away some of the tension the students were feeling as well,but they didn't really expect Vampires to attack.

It wasn't just Vampires tho, the demons also attacked the students there. Out of the one thousand five hundred students that went, over four hundred died.

Man, that's a sob story. Anyway, I know over a hundred vampires and a hundred demons are going to attack.

And the only silver lining in all of this is that the leaders of the vampires and demons are only [B-] rank, so the teachers were able to defeat them quickly.

But not quickly enough. By the time the leading supervisor had defeated the leaders of the vampires and demons and came over to help, over four hundred students had died.

Mainly because half the first year students are (G)- rank while the weakest vampires and demons were (F+)- rank. Not to mention they had more combat experience and that it was a surprise attack.

As I closed the notebook and dropped it on my table - yes the room also came with a table and chair - I decided to rest for the night.

Tomorrow we have combat training led by our homeroom teacher Sarah Albert and combat instructor Leo Black.

"Today you all will be choosing your main weapon for the session", a man in a black military like combat suit with a katana hanging on his waist spoke out loud.

From the respect and admiration in the students eyes, you could tell this man in front of them was not just famous but insanely powerful as well.

Leo Black, an [S+] rank awakener. He was a general in the human army.

In the novel, he broke through to [SS-] rank during the war, easing the burden on humanity.

Anyway, I think I should explain the human army.

The human army was mainly founded in the year 55AC.

Just after humanity barely repelled the members of the other six races.

They are controlled by the central government.

And the highest position in the army is Marshall.

Currently there were only three Marshalls. And those Marshalls are part of the central government. The reason the central government controls them.

The second highest position is general.

So while Asgard may have near similar strength to the Army, they don't have as much authority as them.

Since their founding, the Army's job has always been to protect humanity from the other races, so they are always usually fighting at the frontlines.

And that's it for the human army. Now I know what you're thinking.

Why is a big shot from arguably the strongest organization in the continent here?

That's because Leo is currently on a vacation and he decided to teach in the academy.

Besides after graduation everyone is going to serve in the army for at least two years, after which we will decide on what path to take.

Whether to continue serving in the army and fight on the frontlines, or becoming an explorer and head into the beast glades, dungeons, labyrinths e.t.c and other professions available to awakeners (combatants or not).

As each student chose their main weapon I decided to check whether the protagonists chose the same weapon as in the novel.

And to my delight they did. Leon picked a longsword like in the novel, Jessica picked a rapier, Lily chose a longbow and arrow, Jaden chose a pair of daggers, while Celine although being a healer chose a spear.

Just like in the novel. Ok.

"Next Jason Hunt" a calm powerful voice sounded across the training hall we were in.

I guess it's my turn. I took a deep breath and confidently walked up to choose my weapon.

Now I have to be careful in choosing my weapon since it has to be some thing that goes with the ART OF CREATION.

In that case the weapon that would suit that art the most would be a sword. Ok but what kind? Do I go for a bastard sword, a longsword, a broadsword, hmm?

As I was contemplating on what sword to pick, I saw it. The sword I would start using. A katana and so I chose it.

I forgot that there were katanas in this world. Now that I think about it, in the void I mainly trained with a katana.

Is this what they call fate?

"Alright gather up, let's begin".

Anyway with all the students having chosen their weapons, it seems class was about to begin.
