Encore 77 — The Fake Nobles (IV)

Well, ain't that great? We just had to end up next to the Goldengate table. Let's see...

"You look like fine fellows."

The current patriarch of the Goldengate family, William Goldengate. He's also known as the Golden Knight. I've seen him in videos and have heard stories. I wonder if I could beat him as I am now.

"We're the Suisha siblings, sir."

Mei shook his hand. Her hand was covered by his. He's bigger than he looks. I shook his hand too.

"I'm Guira and this is my older brother, Hikari."

"I'm—"

"You are William Goldengate and your wife is Selena. The oldest child is Ameri while the youngest is Jackie."

Mei explained with a smile on her face, addressing all of them. She bowed lightly.

"I only remember the names of people who interest me. I've always loved seeing the charity rallies that you Goldengates held in England annually."

That's a lie. It's obvious. Those rallies can be seen on the internet very easily. Ameri and Jackie don't show up in any of them, however. She playing her cards slyly.

The man named William laughed haughtily. We sat down at our table. I glanced over at the Goldengates only to see Ameri and her brother, Jackie, staring at me. I stared at them back before they averted their eyes.

Averting my eyes would be the last thing I'd want to do. If I don't do my job properly, Mei will scream at me.

Mei, William and Selena Goldengate had a civilised conversation. I was surprised that she was able to keep track and keep talking. From some of the glances that she gave me, I could tell that she was doing her best to keep them entertained.

The lights in the room dimmed.

"Oh, it seems like it's time for the meeting."

Selena said, looking toward the stage, which was the only place with a spotlight.

"There he is."

An old man appeared on stage. It was Saito Eiji who walked onto the stage. He walked in with two others behind him.

"Oi, that's...!"

I whispered to Mei. She nodded.

"Yeah, I don't know that guy but that's that woman who attacked us."

"Ylna..."

Ylna and a tall man walked onto the stage behind the old man. The man looked at me directly. His green eyes pierced through me.

I nervously smiled.

Ylna is looking at me, as well. They know that this is a disguise. She smirked at me before looking at the rest of the audience. Saito Eiji stood in front of the microphone.

"Hello, dear nobles and guests."

He addressed the entire crowd. Just hearing his voice pissed me off. I'm guessing Myraliana is somewhere in this room, itching to take a lick at Saito Eiji and Ylna.

"As you know, I am Saito Eiji. I gathered you all here today for something very important. The future of this world."

"Sounds like a lot of bull to me."

I heard William Goldengate mutter in English. Saito Eiji smiled as he sensed the discontent among the people attending.

"I'm sure all of you have your doubts but please listen until the end. That is why I have called you here. This meeting will have three segments. Firstly, it will be me talking, then a break for food and finally a surprise at the end. Please stay tuned."

He said before stepping back. Ylna stepped forward with her usual placid smile. She peered at the crowd.

"Hello, before you take a stance, please, I am not here to cause trouble but I am what you all call a humanoid Imperi."

Although she meant to calm people's nerves, she only made them worse. In a room full of nobles, there's no telling what could happen.

Ylna slowly put her hands up. Some of the nobles in front of her aiming at her, threatening to launch spells. What I found strange was the fact that it was a minority of nobles doing this.

Ah, I forgot... I can't believe I forgot something so simple.

I forgot that some nobles are just as twisted as those damned gods.

Some nobles are just as twisted as Saito Eiji but just don't show it. It's probably why none of the Six Great Noble Families are here.

Gods ignore Imperi as a whole. Nobles do not think much of Imperi compared to regular magi. Even if Ylna is someone who destroyed a ward in Tokyo, they don't know about that since her eyes were covered.

"You all, stand down."

A noble said.

"What?! But she's a—!"

"Stand down. Do not make me repeat myself."

I followed the source of the voice to a brown-haired man. It was the Duke of Arlight. He's probably the most well-known out of all the nobles here.

The nobles exchanged hesitant looks before getting back into their seats.

Ylna sighed before putting her arms behind her back.

"Now, as I was saying, I am a humanoid Imperi but I do not wish to cause you harm. In fact, I am here to propose something revolutionary, something that could change the very structure of this world."

What does she have planned here? What benefits does she have helping Saito Eiji? What does he get out of it? What does she get out of it?

The pink-haired girl grinned.

"The gods. Those beings who came out of nowhere and established dominance over you all. Aren't you fed up being watched by them as they do nothing to help? I know I am a part of the species that attacked your kind but let me inform you about two things."

She paused.

As Mei nudged me and flicked her head, I looked around. Some nobles were already on board. Nobles are supposed to be on top if it wasn't for the gods.

They want to be at the top, unhindered by the gods.

"Firstly, I am not like those mindless creatures. Just like you assume prejudice on your own kind, please do not do that with me. I am different. I wish for harmony between our two species if possible. Secondly, I was originally human."

"...!"

I can't tell if what she's saying is a lie or not. There's no way that she was a human, right?

But, then again, I'm the same as her. I was born to two humans but I'm partly a humanoid Imperi too. Is it possible that she was a human, at some point in her life?

"What we need to defeat those gods is simple. We need a weapon that can destroy them. A weapon that can kill a god: the Godslayer."
