Prologue:

And so, he knelt down on the rocky ground and whispered a prayer to the deity he served.

"O great Bathala," he said, his voice echoing through the vast expanse of space, "I beseech thee to send me on a mission of great import. Let me serve thee and thy holy cause, and bring glory to thy name."

For a moment, there was only silence, and Michael wondered if his prayer had gone unheard. But then, a brilliant light shone down from above, and a voice spoke to him, booming and powerful.

"Michael," it said, "thou art a warrior of great strength and valor, and I have need of thy services. There is a world in peril, a world threatened by a great darkness that seeks to snuff out all that is good and pure. Michael felt his heart swell with excitement and pride, and he stood up, his wings beating against the air.

"I accept this task, O great Bathala," he said, his voice ringing out through the heavens. "I shall not fail thee, nor the world that depends on me."
