Destined to Click

The atmosphere after the kiss on the forehead felt magical and she walked back to sit under the tree. From where she was, she could see her house, just two buildings away but she didn't feel the need to leave yet, she smiled, enjoying the moment and her thoughts as she looked up to the tree and relived everything again in her head. She couldn't get enough of him and as such, he also couldn't get enough of her. It felt like they were made for each other, destined to click the very moment they set eyes on each other.

"You would have told me you needed time alone, I would have suggested a better spot where you'd stay," said Aisha as she sat down close to Nkechi.

"He kissed me," responded Nkechi.

"Yes, I know. I saw everything. I came out to throw the trash when I saw both of you. Is he the same guy or someone else?" asked Aisha.

"Well, he is the same person and look, he got me this bicycle," replied Nkechi with so much joy.

"I didn't get a good look at him though, because he turned his back all along. But I am happy for you, you got to see him."

"Any plans after today, baby girl?" Aisha asked as she put her arms around Nkechi's shoulders.

"Sure there is. I am going to see him very soon."

They stood up and went back home with the bicycles.

------

Efe got home and stayed inside the car for a while, reminiscing about his short outing with Nkechi and how much he wants to help her get a new bicycle but he doesn't have much money to buy her one and whatever he has to do, he has to do it fast.

The feelings triggering his thoughts were so strong that he wanted to do anything he could to make her see he was into her. He came down from the car, went into the house and took one of his brother's sports bicycles and proceeded to the boot of the car as he opened the boot, his brother made his way into the compound rolling his other bicycle.

"Sorry, I am taking your bicycle without your permission, but there's something I need to do," Efe said to his brother, Brume.

Brume paused and looked at him, wondering why his brother was apologising for not taking his permission before taking his bicycle because Efe has always taken it without his permission. He needed to know what was up with his brother, he walked closer to him and observed him well, Efe appeared tensed.

"Are you in any kind of trouble? What's wrong?" asked Brume.

"See, there's this girl—" Efe began.

"Oh, a girl," Brume interrupted, with a smirk on his face.

"Yes bro, a girl. I saw her a few days ago and I'm beginning to feel something for her. She was the one who needed a bicycle for the upcoming competition but the place you asked us to go to, their prices are on the high side and she couldn't afford it, neither can I," said Efe.

There was an uncertain stare to Efe from Brume, the kind of stare that suggests 'that isn't the full gist' and he rose his brows and tilted his head to the right, which prompted him to continue.

"And I didn't want to ask you to give me money so I can surprise her with a new one, so I decided to borrow your bicycle and give it to her for just the purpose of the competition and after that, I'll return it," concluded Efe.

Brume said nothing again for a while, he tried to put two and two together in his head. A girl made his brother all worked up and uneasy and he now felt the need to see the girl and know how important she should be, to make his brother go to this length for her.

"I have no problem with that," responded Brume, as he tapped his brother on the shoulder and walked towards the house.

"But, I hope you know what you are doing. Be sure she likes you as much so your sacrifices won't be a waste," continued Brume, without turning to look at Efe.

The last response sank into Efe's heart, so suddenly that it hit so hard and made him question himself. He could no longer put the bicycle into the boot of the car nor was he feeling the need to go to her place.

"I am so sure she feels the same way, she should. There was chemistry between us from day one and today at the bicycle palace was proof of that," he thought to himself.

It'd be a gradual process to get to like anyone and eventually get to love them. That was the case with Efe after convincing himself that even if she doesn't love him, she must have liked him to a point and if she did like him, it could lead to something more. The revelation brought joy to his heart but one thing he couldn't understand was how much he had felt for her for just a short period and to crown it all up, taking his brother's bicycle to gift her, for her competition.

"Oh, Nkechi, what have you done to my mind?" he asked himself.

Brume's words hit again and this time harder; it put him in a situation where he would want to try his luck with her and also did not want to push the luck anymore for fear of being rejected. Lots of indecision and uncertainty about what would be if he finally gets to meet his fears. Things would have been easier if his brother had not put these thoughts in his head with a blunt statement, he might be right but it wasn't what he wanted to hear at the time.

The ignition of the car was turned on, and he had a resolve on his mind, he knew what to do to find out and had a perfect plan set aside. The gate was opened by the gateman, and he drove out.
