Emily almost walked right into Blake's muscular back when he suddenly stopped. She tried peeking over his shoulder to see why he stopped, but the height difference was too much. She was a little over 5 feet and Blake was certainly over 6 feet!
"Who the heck are you?" a familiar masculine voice questioned.
Emily rolled her eyes when she recognized who it was. She pushed past Blake and folded her arms as she stared daggers at her obviously pissed blonde neighbor, "What do you want Steve?"
Steve's eyes lowered to look at Emily and his features softened. He scratched the back of his head, "Oh hey, Emily, I didn't see you."
Emily pushed past him, "If that's all, I must get going." She glanced behind her, "Let's go Blake."
Steve clenched his fists as he watched Blake follow closely behind Emily down the hall. "That cocky bastard, how dare he seduce Emily and even enter her apartment!"
Steve has never been in Emily's apartment, so seeing another man come from there really hit a nerve.
'But you could maybe learn from him,' a voice in Steve's head suggested.
He grinned maniacally as a plan came to his mind. Steve rubbed his hands together, "Keep your friends close, but you're enemies closer."
Blake glanced up the direction they were coming from to see Steve chuckling creepily to himself.
"Who was that guy?" he questioned.
Emily frowned, "He's the reason I had to get a roommate."
Blake chuckled, "I should probably thank him then."
Emily rolled her eyes in response as they continued to walk all the way down the end of the hall. She placed her thumb on a fingerprint scanner beside Anessa's apartment door and it showed green before opening.
"Welcome Emily and unidentified male," a robotic voice greeted.
Blake's brows shot up as he looked around the childishly decorated but technologically advanced apartment. "This place's pretty..." he trailed off.
He searched his brain for the right word, but how would you sum up girly, but techy?
"Weird?" Emily finished for him.
She tried the lock to the bedroom, but it refused to open. Emily glared at nothing in particular as she commanded Maria, Anessa's robot assistant to open the bedroom door.
"Unidentified male detected, the bedroom door will remain locked," Maria responded.
"He's Blake, Anessa's friend, now open the door," Emily commanded.
"Checking friends list...there is no Blake on Anessa's friends' list," Maria responded.
"I'm so not going to argue with a stupid robot. I didn't want to do this but, I'm left with no other choice," Emily muttered to herself. She looked at Blake, "You'll have to break it down."
Blake took his eyes from the unicorn painting, "What?"
Emily pointed to the door, "You'll have to break the door down." She frowned, "Maria is being a bitch as usual."
"Activating defense protocol," Maria announced.
Blake gently placed Anessa on the couch. "What's the defense protocol?" he worriedly questioned.
Emily waved her hand about dismissively, "Just a stupid defense thing Anessa added to Maria to protect her in case someone tries breaking in."
Blake flexed his arms, "Aren't we basically breaking in?"
"No, because we're already inside and..." Emily trailed off. Her mouth slightly fell open as she watched Blake flex his overly enticing muscular arms.
Blake smirked and rose a brow. He was going to make a flirty comment, but then he remembered he was supposed to be gay.
"And?" he innocently questioned instead.
Emily averted her gaze, "I forgot...just get us in there so we can get out of here."
Blake did a small salute before cracking his knuckles. Emily's brows shot up in surprise, 'Is he really going to take it down with just his bare hands?'
Blake was no doubt very ripped, so Emily didn't doubt his strength, but she's never seen anyone punch a door from its hinges or anything like that before.
Emily had her doubts, but when he punched a good size hole in the door, she had to pick up her jaws from her floor.
She clapped excitedly and looked at her roommate in pure amazement, "You actually did it!"
Blake shook his hand a bit and looked at her with a sheepish smile, "Yea." He stared at her a bit longer to commit the cute face she was making to memory.
It's barely been a day since they've met, but Blake couldn't recall a moment where she smiled so genuienly.
Just as Emily was going to push her hand through the hole to open the door, Maria spoke, "Defense protocol activated."
Emily quickly withdrew her hand as a metal wall appeared out of nowhere behind the door. Her eyes widened and she pointed to the front door, "Open the door!"
But it was too late, before Blake could open the door, a metal wall blocked it. The entire apartment was barred off from the outside.
Blake looked around, "So, this is the defense protocol thing."
Emily slammed her fist against the door, "Damn it!" She glared at the ceiling and yelled, "Let us out of here, Maria!"
"What's the password?" Maria went on to question.
Emily furrowed her brows in confusion; she had no idea what password Maria was talking about.
Blake plopped down on one of the single couches and yawned before adjusting his position to get comfortable.
Emily stopped brainstorming what the password could be to look at him. She narrowed her eyes at him, "What are you doing?"
He fluffed the cushion pillow, "We're obviously going to be here for a while so we should might as well get comfortable until morning."
Emily's eyes went wide, "No! I'm going to figure out what the password is and get out of here."
Blake could tell from the stubborn look in her eyes that he shouldn't bother to argue with her this time. He sighed and placed the pillow behind his head as he leaned back, "Fine."
After Emily's forty-third failed attempt, Blake couldn't take it anymore. He loudly groaned as he flung his head back. "Can't we just shut Maria off or something?"
Emily brought her fist to her palm, "That's it!" She pulled Blake from the couch to a huge metal box on the wall in the kitchen. She opened it and looked at the multiple colored wires running in all directions, "We just need to find the right wire and cut it."
Blake looked at her as if she's grown two heads, "You do realize that there's like a thousand different wires in here right?"
Emily nodded as she took a pair of scissors from a nearby drawer. She held a red wire, "There's only one red wire in this thing, it has to be it."
Before Blake could argue further, she cut the wire and the entire apartment went dark. "Son of a bitch," Emily cursed through the darkness.
Am I the only one realizing all this could've been avoided if they woke up Anessa? Lol
