The Realms Between

 Planes of existence intertwined by a mysterious network of gates, nodes and shrines. Varying from Lush Jungles, Barren Deserts, Deep Oceans, Swamplands or even Glacial Peaks. Each Realm is governed by a guardian responsible for maintaining the realm. Without a guardian, the realm becomes unclaimed, eventually turning into a desolate hell. Traversing RealmsAdvancing through a realm could range from a walk in the park to armageddon. All realms are interconnected through the mystical web. However, Guardians could themselves choose to set up tests or trials in order to earn the right to advance. The tests aren't rigid, and are entirely dependent on the one tackling it. Ultimately, Realms are within a Guardian's discretion, however their authority isn't absolute. Nodes

The Realms Between are truly endless. Countless realms are linked with the illimitable web of veils. Yet the adventurers aren't required to travel each one. Instead a group of realms always correspond to a singular node. Often, the realms themselves correspond to the category of the 'node'. Simply put, Nodes typically represent a cluster of realms, each a unique variation of the node's true nature. However, it is entirely possible for a node to only link a singular realm, or even one realm to link to multiple nodes. Such occurrences are rare, however nothing is impossible within the Realms Between.

Conquering Nodes

Think of each node as a tree, consisting of many branches (Realms). To entirely conquer the node and get to the next one, at least one realm must be claimed. Nodes are directly connected to one another. Conquering a realm sends the adventurer to its node, a time-less space where one can choose to wait and plan their next steps. Unlike Veils, Nodes work both ways. Once a node is conquered, the aforementioned adventurer gains a unique power/skill befitting his performance, the node itself remains as an indefinite destination for the adventurer. As for how many nodes there are? No one knows for sure. 

Veils

Veils are one-way gates, serving as waypoints in the grand web of realms. Each veil is connected to various Realms at the same time. There is no possible way of figuring out the final destination as Veils are entirely random. 

Guardians

Guardians are sovereigns of their Realms. Their real identities can be entirely unknown. However, like the adventurers, they are not native to the Realms Between. There is no rule that Guardians cannot be hostile, yet most choose to welcome the adventures. Guardians are not absolute, they can be challenged and killed, however few could truly survive their wrath. Forsaken Realms are those abandoned by their Guardians or the ones with no Guardians at all. In such cases, an adventurer can choose to anchor themselves with the Realm, assuming the role of a guardian. Although the title comes with immense power, it's a burden that few can bear. 

Adventurers

Adventurers or lost souls in the Realms Between go by many names and come from unique worlds of their own. Every adventurer receives a single invitation to the Realms Between in many forms for various reasons. However, once accepted, they lose their memories and are summoned to the eternal gardens of Elysium. Once there, they must gain the recognition of its guardian to cross through the Veil and begin their journey. Crossing the first Veil grants them a power. Each node conquered returns some of their memories. 

Powers

Powers are unique abilities the adventurers receive and are often very rare to acquire. They are not teachable. Every adventurer is blessed with at least one power, however any more are entirely based on luck and fortune. 

Skills.

Unlike powers, skills can be acquired through various means. They can be taught and learned freely with no restrictions. Adventures often acquire skills throughout their journey. It is possible to trade skills with others. Skills can be honed through arduous training.
