Chapter 6

After sleeping through the night and waking up, Allen decided to start with his training, but before that, breakfast was a must.

It as just at times that he missed being a baby, of course he didn't miss the unbearable pain of not being able to move his body how he wanted, but one thing he liked was that the food was not rationed, being the only baby on the orphanage. Now, it's oatmeal for everyone and a glass of water, incredibly bland, but healthy in some way.

He still can recall the first time that oatmeal reached his mouth for the first time in this life, even worse than the previous one, be it the texture or taste, a creepy sensation cursed through him and almost puke, he was in a state of shock at how something so bland could taste so awful.

Nowadays he doesn't care anymore, the perks of being used to the same food for years. He gave his thanks to Ms Sarah, stood up from his seat and washed the dishes at lighting speed so he could go and practice his powers.

Running across the creaky hallway, some kids were looking towards him with scared emotion showing on their faces, the kids from yesterday, but determined to ignore all of their fearful faces, he ran faster until the door leading to his room was in his sight, but as he reached the latch, Ms Sarah called out to him.

"Allen, I would like to have a word with you, if you please" She exclaimed in a bossy tone, hands on her hips and a really imposing figure.

Sighing inwards, he went back to Ms Sarah and she silently turned back and started walking, indicating that they needed to talk in private.

He slumped his shoulders and dragged his feet through the wooden floor, wondering if the other kids snitched on him, but they couldn't prove anything, not really, who would believe a five year old capable of launching a ball so hard it knocks out a twelve year old. He formulated a plan in his mind, decided to not say anything until Ms Sarah told him the exact reason for this little talk, just as if she were a police officer and he a criminal caught red-handed.

The walk felt like an eternity, the emotions of a five year old for doing something bad were running rampant all around him, but not as heavy as the emotions from yesterday. He kept walking, looking at the floor and grabbing his chest without any notion of being aware of it. Finally, they reached Ms Sarah room, not her exact room per se, but a room she uses to talk to kids when something happened, just like yesterday.

Allen bumped into her from behind, not fully aware of when they arrived, she looked back, stood aside to let him in first, he looked back at her, and gulped out of nervousness.

"The plan is in motion now" He thought to himself while he walked in a stiff manner all the way to the chair. The moment is here, honestly, it was expected to happen, kids can only tolerate pain if they are the ones who inflict it upon others and not the other way around. With a determined gaze, he looked at Ms Sarah who was still standing outside, but after he sat down she walked inside as well. His eyes followed her walking through the worn out wooden floor, each step creaking more than the other.

It was obvious to him that Ms Sarah liked doing these theatrics before she interrogated someone, what made it noticeable was the smirk sometimes appeared on her face for a few seconds, before she was about to call someone to this room.

As she sat down, the two of them stared at each other, waiting for the other to speak, Allen sized her up and down, arms crossed, and a stern look on her face, he tried to not let it show that he was scared, still maintaining eye contact, until she decided to talk.

"Allen, why don't you tell me what happened yesterday?" She asked him, putting her hands on the table, leaning forward.

"W- What do you mean Ms Sarah? I went out, played with the other kids, all good and dandy" He expressed, putting some lies in the truth of the situation.

He could tell that she wasn't buying that explanation by the furrowed eyebrow on her face, just a small twitch, but he saw it.

"Well then, some kids after you went back to you room, they also came back, running, as if they were scared of something" As she said this, she relaxed her back, letting it rest on the chair, and crossing her arms again.

His mind was running at top speed, "So she knows" He thought, nervousness coursing through him, almost instinctively, he went for his chest, but realized just in time before doing so.

She continued talking, seeing how he didn't respond what she just said.

"But, it didn't matter who I asked, they wouldn't tell me anything" This is where the dreadful feeling that was filling his body lifted from him "So they didn't tell her anything, "Those kids can be annoying, but they know to keep quiet when it matters" He celebrated inwardly.

"I already talked with the others, but none can tell me what made them so scared, you are the only one who I haven't talked with, it is important for you tell me exactly what happened so everyone in the orphanage can work towards it" She expressed, Allen knew that the only thing Ms Sarah wanted was for everyone to have at least a decent life around here, he could tell, even if they cut the budget for them every year, she kept on working so the orphanage can work, it felt disingenuous to not tell her, but he also didn't want to out himself as the perpetrator, not even when he didn't even mean for it to happen.

"I know that none of you see me more than an authority figure, and I'm fine with that, but as such, I need to put order in what happens here and punish those who don't follow the rules, are we clear on that?" She expressed with a questioning look on her face, one eyebrow raised taller than the other.

"Yes, Ms Sarah" Before he continued talking he waited a few seconds and his eyes went from all around the room, trying to look for something that wasn't there, some stress left his body, but now he needed to come up with something believable, that maybe other kids also said.

"W- We kinda played too hard, I guess" He emphasized, scratching the back of his head.

Seeing how she kept quiet and just nodded her head, he decided to continue talking.

"You see Ms Sarah, we don't have a lot of games that we can play, but we do have a ball that we use for football" His voice cracked a little bit.

"So what happens is that one kid stays in the goal, to try and stop the ball" She didn't say anything and just nodded her head, indicating him to finish the tale.

Unable to prolong it any longer, he finished telling her what happened "And I think we might have hit the ball to hard on each other, but we didn't want to tell anyone because we don't like getting scolded, I'm sorry Ms Sarah" He tried to look as if he were about to cry, to lessen the punishment, being five year old meant he could get away with some stuff at the very least.

It would have worked if he wasn't such a bad actor "And this is the truth?" She asked not falling for sad cat look.

"Yes, Ms Sarah!" he shouted, leaving behind the acting and just answering honestly.

Partially anyway, I'm not gonna tell her it was me who hit the other kid and threatened the rest to keep quiet about the situation. He mused to himself, wondering when she would let him go so he could try and practice his powers. Being in this room took enough time as it is.

"Very good Allen, I believe you, it's also what the others told me it happened, I do wish all of you would take care of each other better" She let out a loud sigh..

"I'm sorry Ms Sarah, I promise it won't happen again" He told her with a hand pressed against his chest.

She looked at him, blinked for a moment and just let it go "Alright Allen, you can leave, just for today, I don't want anyone playing outside, you can go back to your room" She moved her hand back and fort, telling him with that action that he was free to leave.

Not wasting any opportunity he ran to the door but before he could leave she spoke again.

"Do be careful with how you play dear, I don't want anyone else getting hurt, understood?" Her eyes focusing on him.

He turned back really slow, letting go of the latch's door "Yes Ms Sarah, I'll be careful"

Afterwards she just nodded to herself, closing her eyes for a bit. He took the chance to leave without looking back.

Next time he would be more careful, of course, but careful to not get caught using his powers. Closing the door behind him and locking it, he went straight to his bed, sitting down on top of it in a comfortable position.

"Emotions, that's the key, strong emotions, but I don't know if they need to be sad, angry or what" He started to wonder inwards.

"Or if they can be happy emotions, or joyful, kinda the same thing, but trying with the sad ones and working from there should be a good experiment" Resolved to do it, he patted his knees, thinking back again on the saddest memories he could remember.

Sad, anger, frustration, everything resurfaced, stronger than yesterday, he started to wonder what went wrong and how he could've prevented it, but realized that those thoughts were distracting him from the exercise. He focused on those feelings instead, his eyes blinked a few times, tears fell down his face, then decided that those emotions were enough, he lifted both hands and tried to lift one of the books from the desk.

An electric current ran along his body, he could feel it working, the light shoot out of both hands, a bright yellow this time, as it traveled across the room the light was getting weaker, until it reached the book, Allen could feel a strain in his body the longer the object was, the harder it got to make his intention a reality. Finally managing to reach the book but it only floated for about two centimeters then it flopped down again in the desk.

The strain in his body was real, the book floating and even the light shooting from his hands, he does indeed has powers, a bit ironic the way to use them, it would be better if he could use happier emotions, since using these memories only hurt him more.

He decided to rest for a while, bringing the book to his bed this time.

After drinking some water and wiping the tears off his face, he decided to try now with more positive emotions.

It was just time a matter of finding them, he closed his eyes and started thinking of a memory that truly made him happy

No luck in the five years of life in the orphanage, so he looked back to his previous life, ignoring the first memory that came to his mind, he looked around, as much as possible, until he remembered one of the Christmas he got to spend with his grandparents, parents and siblings, then getting home and wishing his pets a merry Christmas with a warm huge, he knew it was a dumb thing to do, since they don't really understand the reason for the affection but he still did it anyway, bittersweet tears fell down his face, he clenched his fist on his knees, but let go of them after a few seconds, he missed his family, his pets, his friends, but he was also happy for the moments he got to spend with them, after wiping his tears with his arm, a determined look shone on his face. Still thinking about that memory, he pointed his hands at the book in front of him and made his intention of levitating the book course through him.

The same yellow light shoot from his hands, this time a bit bigger than the other, and the book shoot all the way up to the ceiling, making a thunderous noise.

"Oh shit!" He exclaimed, grabbing his head and pulling a bit from his hair. Then the book fell down but halfway through the fall he pointed at the book again, the light appearing one more time on his hands and the book.

He kept the book floating between the bed and the ceiling, a smile appeared on his face, a soft laugh left his mouth, gradually increasing, and at the same time the light grew stronger.

Then a thump reverberated from the ceiling, and from both sides, a common thing that happened in the orphanage, it was their way of telling the others to shut up.

He brought a hand to his mouth, closed his eyes and coughed in embarrassment at the situation, a blush appearing on his face.

After a while he realized that the book was still mid-air with only one hand and he couldn't contain his emotion again, but this time he tried to suppress his laugh the other hand, coughing a bit into his fist.

The fist where he coughed opened, grabbing his hand, he couldn't contain his emotion, he was feeling happier than ever, a huge grin appeared on his face "I did it" He whispered to himself.

Allen didn't want to let go of this feeling, so he kept moving his hands, telling the book where to go, and even tried to maintain it for a while. He would get tired, as if he just ran a marathon, rest, and try again, this series of events happened all day and when two books were floating in the air, each being controlled by a hand, a knock came from the door, he jumped in fright, letting the books fall down, then answered "Yes?" In a hushed tone, wondering who it was.

"Allen, it's time for dinner, why aren't you coming? The other kids are waiting" Exclaimed one of the workers from the orphanage.

"I'm coming Ms Katie, sorry, I lost track of time" He spoke while picking up the books from the floor and leaving them on the desk.

Excitement was coursing through him, he didn't really want to stop practicing, but food was necessary for his body. Not really wanting to leave, but doing it anyway, he opened the door and went towards the dining room with Ms Katie, thinking about his powers and what else he could do when he finished eating.

Ms Katie looked at him from the corner of her eye, and that was the first time she saw him this happy, even skipping a little while walking.
