Path to Liberation

Chapter 2: Path to Liberation

(Lumina) <--- [This indicates that this is a specific character's Pov.]

The girl who helped me had lost consciousness, her magina almost depleted. Yet, even with only half her magina remaining, she still exuded an overwhelming aura. I couldn't tell if she had fully awakened or not.

I am uncertain about her race; she could be an elf due to her pointy ears, although not as elongated as typical elves. Alternatively, she might be a vampire, given her pale complexion. However, the existence of vampires is unclear, as they are believed to have gone extinct during the Celestial Invasion, also known as the Great Magina War, which occurred a thousand years ago. During that event, celestial beings such as angels and demi-gods waged war against this realm, an unexpected act from divine beings. Who would have thought that divine beings do such a thing?

I went on guard when I heard a complaining voice from the distance, "That damn slave! I can't believe a mere slave would do such a foolish thing," it said, groaning along the way. "Come on, it's just a slime—"

"Fuck off, just a slime? A magical beast is a magical beast, once killed, money," he stated, cutting off the other party. I recognized them instantly; they were the adventurers we had encountered earlier. Killing them wouldn't serve any purpose, and I was certain they wouldn't harm the girl.

"I'll take a look here," one of their party members said, and I noticed it was the elf who was approaching us. I remained cautious, ready to defend the girl and myself if needed.

[You can already tell here that I changed the Pov here, I usually shift Povs on my novels from one to another.]

Lumina, the green slime, made a wise decision not to engage in a fight and instead sought refuge in Ruiase's pocket. Despite her confidence in her abilities to overpower the trio of adventurers, Lumina understood the importance of following her new master's orders. For now, she chose to observe and protect Ruiase, waiting for the right moment to take action under her master's command.

"I found her, she's unconscious!" the elf said, attempting to carry Ruiase's body. "Let me help you with that," another adventurer with a shield on his back offered, lifting Ruiase in his arms. "I wonder what got into this kid's mind to flee with a slime," he pondered, while the elf simply shrugged in response. "Looks like the slime is nowhere to be found," the dual wielder chimed in, taking a glance at Ruiase with a scoff. "She's lucky she's not dead," he commented before turning his back to his party members and marching away from the scene.

"Same as you?" the tank said to the elf as they marched through the forest.

"I guess? But her ears are not as pointy as mine. That's odd," the elf said, studying Ruiase's ears.

"Hah! An elf too? No wonder she's as stupid as you, Myrielle," the dual wielder interjected, eavesdropping on their conversation. The elf looked down, feeling disheartened by the comment.

The tank glanced at the elf and let out a disappointed sigh. "Cut it out, Endo," he reprimanded his companion. Endo just scoffed and rested the back of his head on his palms while continuing to walk.

"What are we gonna do about her, Frudo?" Myrielle asked, observing Ruiase's odd appearance. "We'll let her rest at the inn, find out who she is. Maybe we could help her be free from slavery," Frudo replied.

"Tch! You're even gonna help her?! Fuck you, Frudo!" Endo exclaimed in annoyance. Myrielle smiled bitterly at Frudo's 'compassionate' response.

(Ruiase)

As I slowly regained consciousness, a dull pain throbbed in my head. Blurry images surrounded me as I opened my eyes. "Where... am I?" I whispered to myself, struggling to sit up from the bed I was on. After a few moments, my vision cleared, revealing that I was inside a room, an inn to be precise.

"I know that I lost consciousness in the forest. How did I end up here at the inn?" I pondered aloud, still feeling a bit disoriented. "Those adventurers I've fought earlier came looking for you and brought you here," Lumina's voice chimed in as she popped out from my ragged pocket.

"Is that so?" I replied, walking over to the window and opening it. I peered outside, observing the people scurrying around. "You speak more fluently now than before, how come?" I asked Lumina, curious about her sudden improvement in communication.

I listened to Lumina as she bounced and leaped onto my shoulder, her presence bringing a sense of comfort. Her explanation intrigued me as she attributed her improved communication to me naming her.

"Because of naming you? Hmm, about before. You mentioned that naming you would cost me a lot of magina. How?" I asked with a puzzled expression, trying to grasp the significance of her words.

Her surprise at my lack of knowledge amused me, and I chuckled before urging her to explain further. "Is there something I need to know?" I inquired, wanting to understand the implications of our bond.

"You really don't know, huh? That's odd. Well, let me explain..." Lumina began, preparing to shed light on the intriguing connection between naming a magical beast and the expenditure of magina.

By bestowing a name upon a magical beast, it aids them in growing stronger and evolving into a more superior race. However, this act comes at a cost of magina, varying depending on the magical beast's race and strength.

Interestingly, having a name is not a fundamental requirement for a magical beast to progress and grow stronger; it merely acts as a catalyst, accelerating their development. In rare cases, other nameless races, like angels and demons, can also be named, but this comes with considerable risks due to the divine and demonic nature of such beings.

"That's new," I said as I reached my hand to Lumina and squished her. "You're really an odd one, Master. You possess an overwhelming amount of magina, and from the looks of it, you don't know half of the things in this world," she said.

That's true; I really don't know much about this world due to my current situation. My memories are cloudy, and when I try to remember anything about my past, all I recall is waking up in a shady basement with other slaves.

"I haven't introduced myself yet, have I?" I asked, making her nod. "I am Ruiase Fallen-Krae, nice to meet you, Lumina." Introducing myself and properly greeting Lumina for the first time.

"Nice to meet you too, Master Ruiase. Once again, thank you for giving me a name; it's really an honor for me," she said, which made me smile. "Come on, it's nothing, plus we should escape now," I said as I attempted to climb up to the window.

"Why? I heard earlier that Frudo will help you be free from enslavement," Lumina said, which made me stop from attempting to climb up. "Lumina, you shouldn't trust anyone in this world. Just because I saved you doesn't mean you can trust every human in this world too," I said, making her think.

It's true, though. A lot of adventurers and nobles tried to "help me" before, but they all had dark intentions towards me. That made me lose my trust in anyone in this world; I trust no one but myself.

As I was about to jump to the roof, I heard the door open, and as I looked at it, I saw the three adventurers from before. "Where do you think you're going?!" the one who can wield dual swords said.

"Myrielle, catch her," the tanker said, ordering the elf beside him. I observed the elf's appearance and saw a familiar mark on her neck. A slavery mark, the same as mine, but mine can be found on my chest.

Myrielle extended her arms and a powerful gust of wind pushed me out of the window. As I fell, I saw Myrielle's lip move saying "go" and I smiled at what she did. I'll definitely come back and save her, just you wait.
