The Starting Line

Roger's P.O.V.

My name is Roger Allen I'm from Kansas City, Missouri and I'm a member of a pit crew team of M&M's I've been a pit crew member for 6 and a half years since graduating from the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, North Carolina as I'm at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida as a driver named Dwayne Montgomery comes to the pits in an M&M's Ford Fusion I grabbed the air impact wrench one of the pit crew members says "We need tires, now! Come on! Let's go!" I replaced left and right side of the front tires as I heard other pit crew members replace the left and right side of the back tires then I hear Dwayne and the crew chief have an argument Dwayne says "You know what?! I don't need this! I quit!" The crew chief says "You can't quit! Dwayne! Come back!" But Dwayne was already gone one of the pit crew members says "We need a replacement driver!" That's where I come in it was about time I get to have a chance to achieve my goal and follow my dreams of becoming a NASCAR driver I said "I'll be the replacement driver! I'll go!" The crew chief says "Can you drive?!" I said "I've learned how since I was five! I can drive!" The crew chief says "All right! Get in!" I climbed in the race car I was so stoked first time being in a stock race car checking out the interior real quick put the window net up put my seatbelts on and tightened as the pit crew filled the tank with fuel from Sunoco the pit crew member says "Go! Go! Go!" I start speeding away and back to the race and I follow the other rival racers the crew chief says "You're clear." I overtake the one of the rival racers The crew chief says "Be careful. Do not wreck the car. It's expensive." I said "I won't mess up the car, sir. I got this." I overtake more racers meanwhile in my mom and dad's house dad was watching the race announcer says "Ladies and gentlemen we had word that Dwayne Montgomery has quit and now he's been replaced by a pit crew member named Roger Allen." My dad Daniel Allen was shocked I'm driving a race car he says "Honey! Look! It's Roger! He's driving a race car!" My mom Rebecca Allen says "What?!" She runs into the living room and sees me in the race Mom says "Which car is Roger in?" Dad says "He's in the M&M's Ford Fusion." She sees the car I drive she was surprised Dad says "He's really good." Mom says "I hope he knows what he's doing." Dad says "Of course he knows what he's doing. I was the one who taught him to drive." 11 laps later it was now the final lap I've been holding the lead for a while ahead of the pack I've the win in the bag as I'm focusing on the race a 25 year old woman watches the race with her binoculars as she was impressed with I'm doing as I worked my way into the front going to victory lane 500 yards remaining on turn 4 I crossed the finish line chief crew says "It's over! We'll take home the win! You really proved yourself! I knew I'd picked you as our new driver for a reason! Great win!" I said "Thanks!" I felt really stoked I won my first NASCAR race Announcer:I can't believe it! A pit crew member Roger Allen has won the race!

Announcer 2:I guess the crew chief have found himself a new driver! That was great!

As I celebrate my victory doing doughnuts and drifting on the grass the fans cheer even my mom and dad felt happy they applauded mom stared to shed tears of joy as she was shocked she says "I can't believe it. Our baby boy has won his first race." Dad says "That's our boy!" As I'm at the spot where race car haulers a female interviewer she says "We're here in victory lane I'm with Roger Allen. Mr.Allen that was quite a win. What makes you volunteer for a new driver for your crew chief?" I said "Well, I've wanted to achieve my goal and follow my dreams of becoming a NASCAR driver since I was a kid as my father told me there's a lot more racing than just winning than reaching the finish line I mean taking the full lap I was able to give the fans a little sizzle and I did just that because I wanted to be my favorite NASCAR driver the legendary Richard Petty." The fans cheer as they remember Richard Petty as much as I remember as a child i said "And soon will I prove that I am a legend-in-the-making." The female interviewer says "All right, that was very confident Roger Allen. Coming to you live from Victory Lane." As photographers take pictures of me I do some awesome poses until a runner-up racer named Tyler Carson shows up and says "Hey, Roger! Yo,Allen! Seriously, that was some pretty darn nice racing out there... by me!" He laugh as I roll my eyes Tyler says " I mean you're not bad for a pit crew member now turned race car driver but welcome to the Carson era, baby! The trophy is mine, bro! Mine! Hey, guys how do you think I look with gold? Gold trophy!" He laughs I shake my head "In your dreams. And please don't call me "baby" only my mom calls me that beside you have not done any good racing as much as I had when i overtook you moments ago because I'm lightning that strikes the track!" As I do more awesome poses as the photographers take more pictures as the fans ask for autographs I sign them as I walk to the locker room took a shower and put on some street clothes and then packed my bags until my cellphone starts ringing I answer the phone and said "Hello?" It was dad he said "Hey, son." I said "Dad, hey, what's up?" Dad says "Doing good, kid. Congratulations on winning your first race. I'm so proud of you." I said "Thanks, dad I really appreciate it and I thank you for all the driving lessons you taught me." Dad says "Not a problem, son. I'm glad you remembered my teachings." I said "Can you put mom on the phone, please?" Dad says "Sure, hold on. I'll put it on speaker." I wait i even put my phone on speakerphone until I hear mom said "Roger." I said "Hey, mom." Mom says "You don't know how proud I am of you winning your first race." I said "Thanks, mom as I told you the first time as a kid that I wanted to follow my dreams of becoming a NASCAR driver and I got that chance." Mom says "You're right you followed your dream you're now a NASCAR driver. You really do want to be like your favorite NASCAR driver Richard Petty." I said "Yeah, but this is only the beginning. Hoping next week I get to have a contract to move up." Mom says "Hope so. Are you coming home?" I said "Tomorrow morning because I need to head to the hotel and get some sleep." Dad says "All right we'll see you in the morning." I said "Okay, bye I love you." Dad says "Love you too, son." Mom says "Love you more, baby." I hang up the call put the phone in my pocket and grabbed my bags and exit the race track got in my red 2006 Dodge Charger SRT 8 and drove to the hotel checked into a room when the room then went to bed dreaming about being a race
